This is a rough read and not as short as a Novella would be either. Due make sure that you can handle this type of content and go with caution for those with any kind of trauma history, it can be triggering.

I don't have too much to really say about this book. It was a rough road to get through the book with it hitting so many trauma nerves. The biggest has to be the lack of support, that it just broke me for Mia. Having no support to stand beside you so you can tell your story and heal not only yourself but hopefully anyone else they may have also attacked. Oh wait, she can't, they said not to because political life is just all that more important.

Like I said, you have to be able to really have a handle on the thouger reads but its not a bad read at all. The triggers were just a bit too much.

It should be noted, while this is marketed as a novella it reads more like the opening chapters of a larger story. This is not a stand alone read; you will need to read Broken World and Broken Chains to get full closure on Mia's story.

That's said, if you can persevere with the difficult subject matter Lizzy Ford does a reasonable job of conveying what it might be like to experience "date rape" and the after math.

As the reader, I really felt for Mia because despite her traumatic ordeal she was repeatedly let down by her family too.

I would have preferred to read this as one, full story rather than three shorter books. But they were still worth the read. I didn't appreciate the price tag of the third book though, given the fact they are novella lengths.

There doesn't seem to have been any plot reason for three books, simply revenue and sales, which just seems ridiculous (and greedy) given the lengths of each.

This is a short book about an awful subject. The author executes it well and it sticks by you long after you've read it!

When I first got this, I was super excited about the book. But unfortunately, I'm no longer interested in reading it at this point and I don't want to hold onto it any longer.

My Thoughts:
For those of you that have been following my reviews for a long time, you know I'm a bit of an ebook hoarder. I have a ton of books by a lot of different authors. Lizzy Ford is one of those authors. I have dozens of her books. Even though I have so many, I have never read any. I recently decided to pick up Broken Beauty. I really enjoyed the book.

It feels weird to say I enjoyed the book. I'm not sure enjoyed is the right word. This is in the synopsis, so I don't feel like it's a spoiler to say that the book deals with the sensitive subject of rape. I thought the author handled the subject well. She drew attention to the issues without being offensive. I think she did a good job portraying some of the situations rape survivors find themselves going through. I felt heartbroken watching Mia go through everything she did while I was reading her story. I also liked that there was zero romantic involvement in this book. Mia didn't need to lean on a guy to feel whole again. I really respect the author for that.

Speaking of Mia, I could not stand her family. I wanted to reach through my kindle, and smack the hell out of her father. I couldn't believe that he could care so little for his own flesh and blood, especially after everything she went through. Mia's mom was the best one in the family, which isn't saying much. She still didn't seem like she cared too much. She cared, but it came off as indifferent or fake more than anything else.

Broken Beauty was a powerful, moving book. It dealt with a sensitive subject in a respectful and informative way. It made the reader aware of a situation they might not normally think about because it's not relevant to them. I don't think I will be continuing this series just because this book was so hard to read. I do however recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn more about the subject.

I give Broken Beauty: 4/5.

I'm sorry I can't finish it...
In the end, it was not my things...

I should have given feedback on this book ages ago when I first reviewed it. If I had it would have been at least 3 to 4 stars with its heart-wrenching story of a young girl, drugged, raped and viciously attacked at a party. With her politician father and his conservative viewpoints, her family is not behind her and she suffers even more with their treatment of her and the ramifications of what happened. Although not perfect, it was a book that pulled me in and made me think about it, long after finishing it--enough so that I sought out the follow up novellas on Kindle over the years. This was supposed to be a six-part serial and unfortunately in coming on 4 years only the first two were ever finished, or at least published--hence my lower rating.

Wasn't my taste in the end due to the nature of the book.
