The Boy In The Woods is a great, suspenseful read with enjoyable but somewhat predictable twists.
Sabine is a mother of two teenage boys, Leo and Casper, and will do anything to protect her family. A year ago, an unfortunate even happened involving Leo, drugs, and a 15 year old girl's death, and Sabine was forced to uproot her family and relocate to someplace where nobody knows them. She was hoping for a fresh start for her family, that is until she spots Leo in the woods with a girl, a knife, and blood. The girl ends up disappearing almost immediately after and now Sabine is determined to protect her son and also find out what exactly happened.
The twists in this story were great, although somewhat predictable. By the end, I ended up loving Leo and the bravery he's shown throughout the book, but ended up strongly disliking his father. He's a punk and he proved it every chance he got. Sabine is a real mama-bear, protective of her sons and I loved how everything played out in the end.
Thank you NetGalley and A J Wills for this wonderful read!
HOLY CRAP! OH MY!!! My heart is still racing! I’m still trying to calm myself and come up with the words for this review. I had heart palpitations throughout the ENTIRE book! I was on the edge of my seat and biting my nails the whole roller coaster ride. I can’t remember the last time I found myself peeking ahead to know what was about to happen due to my anxiety being through the roof! I gobbled this book up in just a few hours, and was left reeling.
The characters were all well rounded. Sabine frustrated me at times, and her husband, Rory, infuriated me. I know those were the feelings that the author wanted me to feel. I felt as though I wasn’t sure what or who to believe. My thoughts on what really happened switched a few times, but I was NOWHERE close to being correct. The suspense building that Will created while this masterfully crafted plot unfolded was genius. This book was thought provoking and captivated me from the first page. I actually read so late last night that I feel asleep with my Kindle in my hand because I couldn’t stop reading. I woke up early today and had to finish it.
This was my first book by A J Wills, but I can tell you right now that it won’t be my last.
Thank you to NetGalley and Cherry Tree Publishing for introducing me to this new author and for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Boy in the Woods by A J Wills was an emotional rollercoaster with unbelievable twists and turns and constant questions about who to trust!
I was sucked in straight away! And then, things went complicated chapter by chapter, and it was hard to guess what was going on!
Complicated dilemma, a fight between right and wrong, a life surrounded by secrets...
When Sabine thought she saw her son Leo in the woods fighting with Olivia she was positive she was mistaken... but the next day she found out that Olivia was missing...
As mother she wants to protect Leo but how far can she go? Leo has a dark history that made them move, is he back to old habits?
Whatever happened I wasn't ready for it! WOW! Such good twists show us that not everything is what like looks like!
I loved the ending! Left me satisfied!
Thank you Cherry Tree Publishing and NetGalley for this copy!

Wow, what a fantastic book by A.J. Wills. I read The Phantom Child previously and had high hopes for The Boy in the Woods and it certainly didn't disappoint.
There are so many twists and turns. It was ridiculously hard to put down as the storyline unfolds.
One of my favourite reads so far this year.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to netgalley I got to read my first book from this author. Let me say that I was very pleased with them. The book has a good pace, lots of twists and is an exceptionally good thriller. I absolutely loved it and it kept me on my toes! 5 stars for sure!!!!
In the isolated depths of the woods, a chilling drama unfolds, weaving a tapestry of suspense and deceit. Sabine Sugar, desperate to escape her families troubled past, embarks on a new chapter with her family. Sabine's uneasy mind is plagued by a haunting vision: is her teenage son, Leo, engaged in a heated confrontation with their neighbours daughter, Olivia?
Olivia is then reported missing and her absence sparks a chilling investigation, Sabine's suspicions converge on her own son. Driven by the forces of fear and desperation, she finds herself grappling with the depths of her maternal instincts, desperate to protect her son and uncover the sinister secrets that lay concealed in the silent woods.
Brilliantly written by A J Wills. As the story unfolded I felt like an active participant in the investigation, piecing together clues. It was very thought provoking and it captivated me from start to finish with its suspenseful plot. Thank you A J Wills, NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy of this fantastic book.
My first book by this author. An edge of your seat thriller. How far will a mother go for her child? This book will keep you guessing.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I have read a few of this authors book and wow this one was my favourite so far. It was a very twisty dark read which kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Amazing writing style with different perspectives which built the tension throughout. It was fast paced thriller with many twists and turns when you think you know how the story is going to go bang another twist to throw you off. Highly recommend this fantastic thriller you will not be disappointed. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy.
Sabine Sugar and her family are no strangers to tragedy. Her son Leo is linked to a girls death forcing the family to pack up move to a new town to get away from the gossip and glares of their former friends and neighbors. After settling into their new neighborhood, tragedy strikes again when Leo’s friend/neighbor turns up missing after she was last seen with Leo. Did Leo hurt her? Was he really the last person to see her? Is she still alive?
Thanks #netgalley for my ARC of this book! AJ Wills has done it again with another book that I couldn’t put down! This book hooked me right away and I had to keep going until it was finished. 5 stars!
Wow what a pacy thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat I could not put this down.
This is a story of the Sugar family mother, father, 2 sons who have moved to another town when their eldest son gets into trouble with the police and even though the police clear him they have to move away from the haters and start afresh.
When a girl goes missing Sabine has to fight to prove her son is innocent and what follows is a rollercoaster of emotions to a climatic end.
Would highly recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley & Cherry Tree Publishing for the arc for a honest review.
Love this author and i was stuck fast to this story in fact i read it over the course of a day.
Sabine was a great character, doing her best for her family. Her husband was totally the opposite and as for her sons lets just say they had issue's.
Great storyline, very realistic but at times horrific. I don't want to give to much away lets just say that none of us really know out families or our neighbours.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a stonking read.
A year ago Sabine’s son did something bad and to get away from the gossip she and her whole family move away, everything seems back to normal until one day she thinks she sees Leo fighting with a girl, the following day the girl disappears. Sabine is ready to do anything to protect her son, even lie.
Really enjoyed this one but at some point I did feel like I was bombarded with way too much information at once. Loved Sabine, absolutely hated her husband and I love that every time it was time for his POV, he proved me right. No spoiler about whether or not he’s the killer, he’s just your classic checked out dad who feels like he wants to be young again cause his life is too boring (hate those guys).
The frequent POV switches were a bit distracting to be honest (I like to know who’s head I’m in) and too little happen for a while just before too much happens at once (pacing could have been better). It was very entertaining though and I did love one of the reveals, so I would recommend this one if you want something fun to read.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing this ARC in exchange for my review
This book immediately had me hooked with its fast pace and suspense that kept going all the way through, I loved it.
A mother may have witnessed her son committing a crime, but she can't be sure. After the family's life had already been uprooted due to the boy's involvement in a previous death of a young girl, his mother would do just about anything to keep him out of further trouble and protect the family's reputation in their new neighborhood.
This is a masterful thriller with unexpected twists as the family digs themselves deeper and deeper into a deceit that they had never really left behind in their old neighborhood. Can the truth be uncovered without destroying them all? The reader will be engaged into the wee hours of the morning trying to learn the answer.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This is a heart stopping story that kept me up late at night reading because I couldn't put it down. There are surprises and one shocking event after another. A troubled teenage boy, a missing teenage girl and twists that are so unexpected. This story will grab your interest from page one to the very end and you won't see it coming or suspect anything. The characters are realistic - the overprotective mother, the weak father, the sulky 17-year-old boy and his less heard from 15-year-old brother. So many secrets and suspicious behavior and a dramatic and tension filled confrontation. It increased my heartrate quite a bit and I kept forgetting to breathe. I think this is A J Wills best thriller yet.
Couldn’t put this one down it was good from start to finish and everything in between. The characters were built up just enough and the suspense was just perfect for this story. I could see it being a movie.
Fast-paced twisty thriller and a quick read. This is my second book by this author and I’m looking forward to reading more.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
