I enjoyed the day. It was both hilarious and awkward. It was the perfect royal romance. I also found that the girl in the book was the character that had me laughing the most. The author really did a great Royal for bidden romance. The plot was good, the character development was good, and all of the side characters had bright shining spots in the book. The Author also was really good at creating a sense of forbidden, but also keep it light hearted.
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
For the young Prince Gunnar, he knows that he will never be king of Laandia, and he hasn't had to prove his worth to the people like his older brothers. After a rumour destroyed his relationship, and turned him into the playboy prince, Gunnar has been travelling the world and focusing on enjoying his life. But his brother is getting married, and as one of the groomsmen, he needs to come home, and find a date to be in the wedding party. The only catch: his date can't overshadow the happy couple, and they need to know that there's no chance of a relationship coming out of it. So the 'Sea Queen', and daughter of the mayor of Laandia's capital city would be perfect, right? Not when her stepsister is one of Gunnar's oldest childhood friends, who blames the entire royal family for her parents' divorce, and hates Gunnar with a passion. Stella needs to suck up her hurt feelings, and come to terms with her own guilt over the past. But as she and Gunnar are forced to spend more time together, it seems like the past might come back to bite them.
I think I liked this book even more than the first one. I always love enemies-to-lovers romances, especially when the couple has a past like Gunnar and Stella do. Stella is hiding the fact that she was the one who spread the rumour about Gunnar being a playboy, which led to his undeserved reputation. However, she feels vindicated after her father and older brother left the family to continue to serve the royal family, and she hasn't seen or spoken to them since. She was hurt and suffering, and took it out on the wrong person. When they spoke about it, I loved how understanding Gunnar was. He was definitely someone misunderstood by many, and he wanted to help, but was seen as someone unable to comprehend what was needed. He and Stella worked perfectly together, and I'm glad that Stella was proven not to be the evil stepsister, but was rather the heroine of the day!
I thoroughly enjoyed this enemies to lovers romance. It was a slow burn, and I think it’s the perfect book to read this summer!
Royal Retelling is an enemies to lovers rom-com. This book stood out to me because I really loved the villain/heroine Stella who was a little bit of a bad girl. This book is PG not to spicy, and is a bit of a slow burn. I didn't realize there was book before this one in the series and I felt like this worked well as a stand alone as well.
Um, I need to read the next one to decide if I really like these. Very different from other retellings that I have read. Still undecided.
Cute and funny, perfect for the summer 🏝️🌞 Everything I wanted to find in a summer read, I found in this book.
Thank you NetGalley for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
The plot line seemed a little unbelievable to me, i just feel like it’s not how normal people would react to things? Just couldn’t vibe with the book
3,5
After Royal Rumble, I was ready for another installment in the Love in Laandia series. I thought I would enjoy this book more than the first, for we had already been introduced to most of the characters, and Gunnar seemed like the most fun out of the bunch. However, whilst I enjoyed this book, it took me a bit to get into it (comparing it to book 1, where I was intrigued from the beginning), which surprised me a little, but once I did, it was just as fun as the previous one.
I have to say that thinking back about this book, I am surprised I did not enjoy it more or got into it faster, because all the elements and twists in the Cinderella-esque story are great additions and when considering them. One reason why I needed more time with the book is that the romance took a while to blossom. That also happened in book 1, but for some reason it did not affect me as much then. Scenes between the two main leads were frequent, yet they were still stuck in the past so it was slow to happen, which was a bit frustrating sometimes. I kept glancing at the % status, worried about when the romance would start. I actually liked how everything developed; Gunnar asking Stella's sister to be his date and Stella helping her with the preparation, whilst getting entangled with Gunnar was quite fun, I liked seeing these elements play out, but I also thought more romance would come out of it.
I love reading about siblings. We already knew about Gunnar's siblings (I thought they'd appear more than they did, especially given the context) but I really enjoyed the dynamics between the three sisters, more than scenes between the boys. Their interactions and scenes together were quite fun. Family played a big role in the sequel. And though we knew about Gunnar's family, Stella's has a lot to offer and hits all the spots: a sister who is also her friend, a step-sister who she is trying to help and protect, a selfish mum, a dad who abandoned them who wants to reconnect and his son. So many dynamics and options here alone!
I wonder if book 3 will continue having so many fairy-tale-esque comparisons and elements, and how we willl expand the relationships within Laandia.
Book two of the Love in Laandia series features, the youngest son of the king, the playboy Prince Gunnar and Stella Laz, owner of the town animal rescue. Once childhood friends and now sworn enemies these two reconnect when Gunner comes home for his brother's wedding. Much to Stella's chagrin Gunnar ask her stepsister, the town Sea Queen, Daphne.
Stella and Gunnar spend most of this royal romcom snipping at each other before they actually realize they were meant for each other. A sweet enemies to lover read.
This book is a slow burn royal romance. Stella runs an animal rescue centre and Gunnar is a prince. Stella and Gunnar used to be childhood best friends . It took me a while to get into this book. It’s an enjoyable book.
Words cannot describe how excited I was to pick up the next book in the Love in Laandia series! I loved visiting the old characters and enjoyed exploring Stella and Gunners romance! The pacing of this book made me turn page after page, I couldn’t get enough. This Cinderella retelling is definitely one for the fairy tale lovers 🏰
Such a fun read and I was disappointed when it was over! Can’t wait to see what Holly writes next! 🥰
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The second book in the series. In this one, Stella and Gunnar are forced to reconnect while preparing for a royal wedding. This was a cute second-chance romance with a side of rediscovery
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC!
What a good story!! I enjoyed this fairytale feel to this book. I enjoyed the slow burn also.
I love it when books follow siblings…that way you get to go back a visit with “old friends” through the whole series. I loved this 2nd book in the series. Getting to catch a glimpse into Camilla and Odin’s wedding was a plus!
This is heavy in the grumpy (her) & sunshine (him) with enemies to more tropes. A lot of miscommunication is shown in the characters pasts, but I really liked seeing the growth of the main character, Stella. As she started to realize some of the things she used to know, were not as they seemed, her character completely began to blossom!
This was a sweet and easy read and I cannot wait for Kalle’s book next!
I am soo glad Gunnar was the main character in this book! He was an enigma in Royal Rumble and I needed to know more about him! I was skeptical about how the story would progress but it was pretty fun. Stella was a fun character to juxtapose Gunnar and I felt the emotions bubbling between them from the get-go. My only qualm with it was that I wanted to see more of Stella's relationship with Spencer and Duncan. I would have loved to see more interaction and rekindling. They hinted at them developing a bit more but I would've loved to have seen a family reconciliation. There is a set up for the next book that has me wanting more!
This was such a fun story! I was in the fairytale mood when reading this and this was exactly what I wanted. I love a good happily ever after slow burn. It wasn't the best thing I ever read but a good fluffy read to start off summer!
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
**Royal Retelling** is the second book in Holly Kerr's *Love in Laandia* series, which can also be enjoyed as a standalone novel. The story centers on Prince Gunnar, a daring playboy from Laandia, who returns for his brother Odin's wedding. Without a date, he asks Daphne, the town's Snow Queen, but finds himself increasingly attracted to her stepsister, Stella, his former childhood friend.
Stella resents Gunnar due to a misunderstanding from their past, where she believed he was unfaithful to her friend. Despite their strained relationship, their witty exchanges help rekindle their connection. As Gunnar comes to terms with his feelings for Stella, he faces a choice between his adventurous lifestyle and a committed future with her.Overall, this book have well-developed characters, humor, and the thoughtful inclusion of non-binary representation, enriching the narrative.
This book is a slow burn royal romance. Stella runs an animal rescue centre and Gunnar is a prince. Stella and Gunnar used to be childhood best friends . It took me a while to get into this book. It’s an enjoyable book.
I loved it!! This is just as good as the first one! I had my doubts at first, but by the time I was halfway through I couldn’t put it down! I absolutely cannot wait until the next one!
