I am absolutely wild about this book!

“Unwanted” follows Harper Ward after she is summoned to the small town sheriff’s office in Helena Springs, Montana to provide assistance on a double homicide case. Their only suspect—a man described as a savage. But as secrets begin to emerge, nothing is as it seems and the more time she spends with the man known as Lucas, the more she risks losing herself.

I really like how Sheridan organized this story! Alternating each chapter between the past and present until both timelines merged towards the end drew out the mystery to the very last moment, which was absolutely thrilling. The various points-of-view only thickened the plot as I frantically tried to piece together how Sheridan’s cast of characters were tied to the case. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, more layers to the mystery unfolded so that when the murderer was finally unmasked I was completely caught by surprise!

Harper and Lucas’ strangers-to-soulmates love story is everything I have ever wanted from a contemporary Tarzan reimagining! Having gone through what he has gone through, I love how Harper let Lucas set the pace of their relationship. She fully embraces both sides of him—the animal and the man—and is there to help him overcome his internal and external scars. At the same time, Lucas makes sure that Harper is not alone when she contends with her own demons and my heart melted!

I went into this book expecting emotional turmoil, however I feel like the emotions were overshadowed by the action and mystery. This was a good book, it just confused me because of what I thought it would be.

On one hand I feel like the plot does become a bit far-fetched or unrealistic, but on the other that makes it a fun read.

My overall rating is a 3.4 stars

Unwanted
By: Mia Sheridan
Thank you to NetGalley and Bloom Books for my ARC copy of "Unwanted.'
The gorgeous cover drew me to this book, and the story didn’t disappoint. I love Mia Sheridan’s writing, so I knew I’d enjoy another story written by her. “Wanted” differed from what I expected - but I enjoyed it.
There’s mystery, suspense, and romance all rolled into one. The element of survival and preservation is prevalent throughout the entire book. I felt empathy for each of the main character’s backstory and progression through the novel. I especially loved the epilogue.

I was expecting something different than what I got. I love thrillers and mysteries, but I wasn’t expecting this book to have those characteristics. It was really hard for me to connect with the characters and get into the story. I feel like the story dragged and I just couldn’t make myself get more interested in it. This was my first book by the author, and from what I gather, it’s not her usual writing style. I think I need to read one of her other books to better understand her as a writer. The story just was not for me.

📌“And his thoughts were his own. They belonged to him. They were the only thing that hadn’t been stolen.”

📌“The feeling of…affection was a good one, a liking that couldn’t be taken away by leaving. It would stay whether she did or not. It made him feel good knowing there was another thing no one could steal from him. He liked her. It was his. That was all.”

Mia Sheridan sat in front of a computer and wrote, yet again, one of the most original romances I’ve ever read. I feel like I say this every time I read one of her books. But it’s true. She has this incredible gift of crafting a love story surrounded by a web of plots that will keep us readers guessing, marveling… breathless in the best way possible.

This time we have a kid forced to survive. Alone. In the woods. For many, many winters. And not easy ones. Harsh, cold winters.

And we also have an orphan, forced to endure what some would think is worse than the loneliness carved deep inside her… but maybe it’s just another side of that same coin.

Helping them… or them helping him… we have an agent out of his element but with more heart than most.

And now they’ll have to piece together their lives, all the cr!mes committed… all while two of them fall in love.

To say this is a 5 star read might be too simplistic but probably the best way to show you how this is a must add to every tbr out there.

4.5 stars!

I have been meaning to get my hands on a Mia Sheridan book and was ecstatic when I got approved for this ARC!

I am a thriller lover through and through but do like the occasional romance and this was a perfect combination of the two. I found the author did a great job with describing Harper and Jak/Lucas and their back stories, it really made you feel for them. I especially enjoyed Mark and his wife.

I am very sensitive to the death of animals, thus I had a really hard time with some of what was described, however, I do think it added to the plot.

I have quite a few Mia Sheridan books on my TBR, I can't wait to read them!

Thank you NetGalley and Bloom Books for the ARC!

This was my seventh book by Mia Sheridan and my favorite from her so far! I’m more of a romance reader than I am of thrillers, and this was a great combo of the two genres for me. This story had me enthralled with multiple character POVs, especially the things the main male character experienced in his life cut off from the world. There was so much the character expressed as he experienced the world that will stick with me long after. Thank you to Sourcebooks / Bloom Books, and NetGalley for the ARC.

This was my first Mia Sheridan read and thoroughly enjoyed it. Her writing style is really fantastic. It was an engaging book, but it was extremely sad. I wasn't expecting the whole thing with pup. I was a HUGE mess when that part happened. I also didn't expect all the twists and turns when it came to Jak/Lucas and Harper. They had sick tragic back stories, but love and strength prevailed. Some of the strongest survivors I know. I can't wait for book two.

Truthfully, I didn't expect it to be so sad. I wanted more romance than murder mystery. I found myself underwhelmed with the deaths. I just didn't really care for them. That's why I'm giving it three stars, and some of the stuff that happened was really crazy. I kinda wish we got more of the romance aspect..

THAT EPILOGUE THOUGH 👏

To say the author knows how to reel me into a story is an understatement. I have yet to find a book that doesn't pull me right in and leave me emotionally damaged by the end. There were multiple points of view in this story that was. a little confusing at first, but as the characters showed themselves and their personalities, I was able to follow along. The characters are introduced as part of a string of murder investigations. At first I wondered how all the things would connect, but the author wove a tale so vivid and enthralling that the thriller and suspense aspects kept me reading. There were times that I wished I could pick up the phone and call the author to ask who hurt her as the details are something else, but in the end it really all was the creation of an extremely talented storyteller. The moral of the story... wait and hope. And have some tissues handy.

I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Huge thank you to Mia Sheridan, Bloom Books and NetGalley for sending me this ARC of Unwanted that will be available for sale tomorrow, July 9, 2024!
I really enjoyed reading this and it went pretty quickly. The premise of a boy turned man out in the woods and literally killing to survive is such a unique idea and I really enjoyed the storyline. Something that kept popping up in my head was that this book reminds me of a mashup of Lotus by Jennifer Hartmann, Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan and The Hunger Games. Jak was a lovable character that you couldn’t help rooting for and his instincts were pretty spot on the whole entire book if you pay close attention. I really liked the FMC Harper as well, but she kind of drove me crazy at times. What’s really annoying is that I can’t even name one instance of what I’m talking about! The idea of a group of Uber wealthy people actually creating a program like the one described in the book is supes terrifying and I could see about half the country right now thinking that would be a swell idea…which is also terrifying as hell.

My favorite quotes:
“He was wild. But so am I.”
“This fills my soul. You…you fill my soul.”
“All human wisdom is contained in these two words- wait and hope.” -The Count of Monte Cristo

Thank you, NetGalley and Source Books/Bloom Bookd for this ARC. I read Archer’s Voice from this author and fell in love with get writing!! This book did not disappoint, and I enjoyed it !! This was a wonderful, romantic suspense story that I could not put down the roller coaster started from beginning until the very end of the story. I really felt like I knew the main characters, Harper and Lucas. They were very believable and in an unbelievable and unique situation. I love how kind and caring Harper was to Lucas and handling his troubled past along with dealing with her past as well. I love the multiple POV’s within the book, I really enjoyed learning about Jak and how his character becomes involved with Lucas and Harper’s relationship.. There were difficult topics discussed within this book and I think the Author handled them extremely well. I will continue to read more from this author and I would highly recommend this book.!!!

I absolutely love a good romance and thriller blended into one book, obviously Mia hit it out of the park!

I love Mia Sheridan.

When I first started this book it started off slowly because there were so many POVs up front. The longer I read the book, the more I appreciated them.

I love a thriller and a romance mixed together and this was the perfect blend of the two. Mia certainly knows how to write something gripping and romantic.

I cannot wait to read more of her books.

Thanks to Mia Sheridan, NetGalley, and Bloom Books for this ARC.
This book is a romantic suspense, and it was definitely not what I was expecting. Both main characters have heartbreaking pasts and trauma. I found the multiple points of view slightly confusing, and I wish each chapter had the name of the person instead of just guessing who it is. The beginning of the book was very intriguing, and then about 50% through it became all about the romance, and I just really wanted more suspense or character development. Also, I have read a lot of Mia Sheridan books, and I find a lot of her books very similar. Overall, I thought this book was OK. I think my expectations were just way too high since I have read so many of her other books.

Unwanted by Mia Sheridan is such an enthralling story in more ways than one. It’s a mystery, yet so much more as you get multiple stories being told from different points of view that leave the reader with so many questions and a need to know more.

The main focus of the story is an investigation into multiple strange murders, which is told from a few different points of view on and off. There’s the agent investigating it; Harper, the woman acting as his guide through the wilderness to find the murderer; and Lucas, the only suspect they have at the moment who is a “wild man” living in said wilderness with no prior contact with the human inhabited world. This was super interesting as there is the investigation itself and trying to uncover the culprit as well as the reason behind the murders in the first place, as well as this equally mysterious environment it takes place in. Exploring and uncovering both sides of the story were enthralling and I found myself hooked by a need to know more about the setting, as well as desperately wanting to know how the deaths tied together and the strange circumstances surrounding them.

On the other hand there is Jak’s story. A young boy who is stranded in the wilderness for reasons he doesn’t understand and which lends an almost, post-apocalyptic, dystopian feel to the book that was both spooky and so enthralling. Once again, there is this mystery of how he got there and why, what is going on, and this desperate fight for survival as he is forced to endure the elements on his own with only the resources he can find himself. For me it leant such a creepy air to the book that had me paranoid and spooked, never knowing what dangers might be lurking or what was truly going on.

I really enjoyed each of the characters and the perspectives they brought to both the story and the mystery of who was behind the murders. Lucas and Harper were both interesting characters to read from perspective-wise, and played a major role in unraveling the plot present events and past alike. I really liked how seemingly irrelevant events became tied together in the present and took on a whole new meaning the further along the story goes and thought it came together very nicely. Even Jak’s story was super interesting and I found myself looking forward to each chapter from his point of view, despite being uncertain I would like it considering he’s a child. But watching him survive all alone in the wilderness and how this tied into the rest of the story was very satisfying and intriguing.

This is the first book in a series and I’m super looking forward to seeing where any other books will go because I honestly have no idea. But I’m so there for whatever it is, especially if it somehow delves deeper into the survivalist stuff that Unwanted introduced. Regardless, I will be picking the next one up as soon as I can.

What a wild ride! First time reading this book and I didn’t want to put it down. There was a lot happening in the beginning but once the story picked up…we got one beautiful story. A story of finding your pack no matter what you’ve been through.

A story of fighting for your life because you have no other choice. A boy thrown into the wilderness by pure evil people. A boy who overcomes the evil by surviving. A girl who lost everything but finds her everything. Lots of twists and turns.

Highly recommended.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Unwanted by Mia Sheridan is a suspenseful masterpiece!

Anything Mia writes is grappling. heart wrenching and beautifully crafted that broke my heart millions of times. The main characters had some of the most heartbreaking backstories that had me shedding multiple tears within the story. As always the story touches on hard topics that are realistic and a gut punch that makes you feel deeply what they are going through. A lot of characters in this book had a very difficult life and things that they deal with unfortunately. Despite that this book is a suspenseful romance that is set in dual timelines and follows an intricate storyline that has readers wondering what is going to halon and who can they trust.

There is a a lot of mystery in this book and cases to be solved. The story has you turning page after page. I devoured it because I could not put it down and needed to know how this would. all play out but despite that the romance in this story was beautiful and I loved it! I cannot wait to reread this and recommend it to people to read it. It's one of those books you have to trust the process and the author and go in blind because you will be shocked to your core and when the stakes are raised with the need of survival? I was on pins and needles hoping this would all pan out in a happy ending but I loved this book so much! the suspense, the crime, the anxiety and the romance within this book was so intricate and well written. I cannot recommend this book enough!

Told in third person multiple POVs, in a dual timeline, Unwanted is a tale of survival and hope outside of a small Montana town.

Unwanted is a perfect combination; a well-written suspense and beautiful love story that’ll keep you engaged from beginning to end. But, what else were we expecting? It is a Mia Sheridan book, after all.

Thank you go NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books | Bloom Books for an advanced copy of Unwanted in exchange for my honest review.
