I've only read one of Mia Sheridan's books in the past, so I think that helped me going into this book as I didn't have any expectations. I enjoyed how this book mixed romance with a bit of a thriller. I say bit of a thriller as that was definitely not a main aspect of the story, instead those climatic scenes regarding 'who did it?' were at the very end of the book. Don't get me wrong, there is definitely some investigative moments happening throughout the story, however it is more focused on some tame background for Lucas and one of the victims.

The main aspect of this story is a romance and I enjoyed how the relationship between Harper and Lucas develops. They understand each other in many different ways and truly help each other open up. I also thought Sheridan did a great job of adding a more animalistic approach on Lucas's end as it is more believable. Although a bit fantastical, it does focus on the instinctive feelings one can have. Certain descriptions reminded me of reading "Where the Crawdads Sing", watching someone try to determine human situations by only having animals as a reference. A lot of nuances do not make sense but you can get an overall feeling of anger, fear, etc.

Getting flashbacks of a character fighting to survive the harsh elements of Montana with no resources was terrifying and astounding. I wish there had been a few more of these scenes as there were a few dark situations touched upon but you don't get the full scene as the character was living it and some of those would have been really amazing.

The agent side character, but also somewhat of a main character as we receive his third person point of view a few times, was unnecessary at times. There was a lot that was pretty obvious early on regarding the mystery of Lucas. I wasn't bored with his investigation, but after finishing the book, I could have done with more scenes between Harper and Lucas versus these side interviews that told me things I already knew.

The ending did become a bit far-fetched but I get where the author is going to set this up as a series. I enjoyed this overall and I'm definitely interested in reading more of these "savage" men, how fun!, but I have to kind of brush off the craziness of it all.

Wow another great read by Mia Sheridan! Ms. Sheridan writes a powerful narrative of survival and hope, definitely exceeding my own imagination. The story is told in 2 timelines, Jaks growing up years and present day. The premise was a little out there but it definitely made you think and isn't that what we want out of a great story. It tells the story of Jak and 2 other boys around the age of 8 left out in the wilderness to fend for themselves outside Helena Spings, Montana She brings the story thru the years to present day and Jak to manhood. He was faced with overwhelming cruelty but focus on the slivers of light and hope and it brings you to the beauty of this story.. The other main character was Harper Ward who grew up in the foster care system and has moved back to Helena Springs , Montana. She is a self made wilderness expert taking hikers and campers out to the wilderness while secretly searching for her parents bodies. There were 2 murders , one in town and one in a cabin in the wilderness. Harper was asked to assist with them and she met Jak. From the beginning of there love story it was lust that gradually turned into the greatest love story both raw and tender. It forms a central theme bring all the twisted plot threads together to reach an outstanding conclusion. This was brilliant writing an absolute heart pounding suspense filled romance!!! I want to thank NetGalley and Bloom Books for the free copy in exchange for my honest review.

I’ve been a fan of Mia Sheridan’s books ever since falling in love with Archer’s Voice and while Unwanted gave me the same warm, fuzzy vibes — I had a bit more trouble connecting with the plot than I did with her other books. The love story is very Tarzan-esque with the main character being raised and surviving brutally in the wilderness which isn’t going to everyone’s cup of tea but I still enjoyed the love story aspect of the book.

I liked the premise of the book a lot but did find it somewhat predictable at times which is how I rated it lower. Overall really enjoyed it and loved Jak’s character.

“𝘼𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙙𝙤𝙢 𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙨—𝙬𝙖𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙚.”

This is part psychological thriller, part mystery, and part romance. Jak’s story is both fascinating & heartbreaking: a boy thrust out into the wilderness at eight years-old, forced to survive or die. Harper is a wilderness guide who lost her parents in a tragic accident when she was young. The story brings the two together, & we find that they are much more connected than they think.

In the beginning I was slightly overwhelmed by the amount of POVs this story has, but as the story continues I realized that they really were necessary. I did enjoy each of our MC’s, but I will say that the story felt long & a lot of the insights from our characters made it a bit slow for me.

The story itself is heartbreaking, however somewhere along the way the plot became a bit too unrealistic for me with what we were meant to buy into as a reader.

Jack himself is similar to Tarzan in a way. His POV is more animalistic in tone & though I understand that is due to him being by himself since he was 8 years old, it was also a bit over the top for me. He does a lot of “sniffing”, showcasing the abilities he’s had to rely on to survive, but after a while it got to be a bit much.

The abuse that Harper suffered as a child also came out of left field for me. There really wasn't any warning to it & even worse for me, I felt there was little point to it. It's barely given any thought - it's just mentioned & then we move on from it. It gave me major ick & I found it to be an unnecessary addition to the story.

I will say that I did really enjoy the twist that came towards the end & it probably is why I’m rating this story a bit higher! I also loved the idea of this string of fate tying Harper & Jak together.

This book was insane and I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like it! It was suspenseful, romantic, emotional, and devastating at times. The story was farfetched but in a way that worked, the mystery had me on the edge of my seat, and there were some twists that I truly did not expect. I also loved the multiple POVs and how things were slowly revealed via flashbacks throughout the book.

I loved both MCs and the romance was a super sweet and heartfelt slow burn with a lot of shared trauma. I don’t want to give too much away so I’ll leave it at that. I would recommend this to romance readers who like a bit of suspense and don’t mind shedding a few tears.

Thank you to Bloom for the ARC!

Mia Sheridan’s Unwanted (previously published under the title Savaged) is a suspenseful murder mystery romance taking place in Montana, but it’s soOo much more than that — this isn’t my typical cup of tea but my expectations were exceeded and I fell in love with this novel. WOW. This book is unique & the twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat trying to solve the case.

Sheridan’s writing had me truly falling in love with the MMC - the romance that unfolds is a slow and satisfying burn that absolutely left me wanting more, more, more! I have scored a new book boyfriend that I’m going to be caught fantasizing about for the rest of my life.

I would love to read more from this author and highly recommend this book to folks looking for a quality mystery to solve with some smut - I warn you though that you may fall in love and be faced with the reality that this is only a work of fiction. I will give you a trigger warning that you need to prepare yourself for feeling immense sadness over a particular animal companion if you do get into this book - tears will fall and there will be a pain in your heart that you just can’t shake.

Immense gratitude to NetGalley & Bloom Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

"I want wild. I want you. All of you. The best and the
worst and everything in between."
Mia Sheridan wrote a beautiful and completely unique romance when she wrote Savaged. I've read survival type romances and different kinds of romantic suspense, but never something quite like this.
Savaged starts out as a mystery, but turns into a suspenseful, yet epic love story. Harper Ward is a wilderness guide in Montana. She was raised by the system as both of her parents were killed when she was a child.
When the sheriff's dept. calls her to help canvas an area due to a murder, she's more than willing. When she goes to the station, she meets Lucas.
It's very apparent that Lucas isn't your typical guy. He's wild. He raised himself in the outdoors/woods battling things we couldn't even imagine. He's dealt with loss, near starvation, and almost complete isolation. His life is forever changed now that he's met Harper.
Harper and Lucas (also known as Jak) story is intense. It's unforgettable and all consuming. Their stories are tragic, but the love they share changes everything for both of them. This storyline kept me guessing and there was so much I didn't see coming. I loved both Harper and Jak so much. It's obvious these two belonged together and their love story was so sweet and romantic.
It's hard to come up with a completely original story line, but somehow Mia managed to do just that. The writing was spectacular as always and the story was beautiful and emotional. I do wish there was more of an ending, or a longer epilouge, but aside from that I loved it all. This is one of those books that I won't soon forget!
"You make me see beauty where I didn't see it before, Jak," she said, turning her face and closing her eyes as she kissed his palm. "You make everything new.
Even me."

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I went into this book but man did it blow me away. The mystery, the romance, the storytelling…. just all of it. I will say I’m not the biggest fan of book written in 3rd person. I generally like to be inside the characters head experiencing everything as they do but once I got over that it was filled with steam ahead. Jak was just so sweet. I LOVED him. That baby deserves the world! Harper was weirdly super innocent which was kinda strange for the life she had lived but I liked her all the same. I really loved her connection with Jak and I loved all the moments we got of them together. Dt. Gallagher was what you like to see when reading a mystery book. He was attentive, asked all the right questions and was caring. He didn’t fumble important things just to keep the investigation going like some detectives in other books. Laurie was adorable and I’m glad she essentially gained the family she was missing. 🥲 like I said I came into this not really knowing what to expect and I am so glad I gave it a chance. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC. I believe this book was out previously under a different name but I received an ARC of this version.

I thought this was a really interesting book. I found the plot to be quite interesting, both the plot and the characters drew me right in from the start. I really enjoyed the writing of Jaks character and thought there was a good balance of “flashback” scenes/ depictions of his life growing up in combination with the current day story. Personally I would have liked to see more development between him and Harper but overall I enjoyed the book. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

When wilderness guide Harper Ward is summoned to the small town sheriff's office in Helena Springs, Montana, to provide assistance on a case, she is shocked to find that their only suspect in the double murder investigation is a man described as a savage! Great read! I definitely enjoyed reading this one! This book had suspense, murder, mystery, intrigue, action, a sort of who done it and a few crazy twists and turns! The story was very interesting! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

I have read two Mia Sheridan books (this and Stinger), and I have been fully unable to put either of them down once I opened them for the first time.

There is something about the way that Sheridan writes that just speaks to the soul. Her characters are flawed but genuine, they have secrets but they have kindness and empathy and perseverance, too. They feel so very real.

I don't want to say too much about this book because I think that it deserves to be read without any preconceived notions, but it was incredible. The mystery, the love story, the threads connecting it all... it all came together beautifully.

Thank you Bloom Books for the ARC copy of this incredible story. I truly enjoyed every second of it.

While this took me a little to get into I just loved Jak and Harper! This was a gut wrenching story at times and has many triggers so beware. But it was full of so much emotion (yes, there were some tears) and grit! I loved the sweet tender moments between Harper and Jak! Jak definitely gave me Archer vibes from Archers voice. He's a mountain man but also so sweet and tender!!!

It was a little slower moving but I enjoyed taking my time and soaking it in. The ending was so interesting how it all played out! My heart just wanted to hug Jak. He's so precious but manly! I absolutely ADORE him and Harper!!!!

Wow! If I could just leave that one word as my review I would! This book is incredibly unique and gut wrenching at the same time. It broke me but thankfully put me back together again. I went through a myriad of emotions as the mystery surrounding Jak is laid out before us in that very masterful way Mia Sheridan tells a story. Learning about Harper and her past is equally intriguing with some twists I didn’t see coming. And Harper and Jak together, well that’s love in its purest and primal form. So beautiful!
It was a pleasure to be given this book through Netgalley to give my honest review. For all the horrors that Jak endured watching him emerge from it all and become a man with Harper is truly heart warming and breathtaking. His innocence was just beautiful. Together they turn their tragedies around and finally begin living and loving. Bravo!

4.75 Stars
WOOF WOOF! This super sexy and suspenseful romance by queen Mia had me HOWLING AT THE MOON! I loved it so much, she had me addicted, I quite literally brought my e-reader everywhere. The only reason why I didn’t give this book a full five stars is I wanted the book to center more on the romance between the two main characters; Jak and Harper, they were soooooooo cute. I seriously think that their love story is every girl's secret dream LOL!

A powerful story of survival. A child thrown into the wilderness and forced to survive. Part of a mad man’s study to create a new generation of warriors.
A suspense/ romance novel about a wild man thought to be behind two murders in a small town. And a backcountry guide the police feel can help them. Some of the story is a bit much. But honestly the struggle to survive in the wilderness knowing barely anything and having to keep your self safe for years with just your instincts. It was hard to put down. I will definitely recommend this as a must read

Thank you Sourcebooks Bloom books! I was so excited to get an ARC for Unwanted. This book was originally called Savage and I read it last year.

I was really looking forward to reading it again. I absolutely love Mia’s books.

I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic, suspenseful story (again!) The dual timeline and the uniqueness of this plot had me engrossed from beginning to end.

Unwanted is a story about waiting and hoping. Following two murders in a small town in Montana, Harper, a wilderness tourism guide who also grew up in foster care, is called in to assist the detective. A man only described as “savage” is a potential lead in the case. He is a man of the wilderness, having been isolated from society for years. They are both intrigued with each other.

The story is unique and gives a new perspective on life, society, and how we live.
