i unfortunately just could not get into this book :( i dnfed @ around 230 pages. i just didn’t feel a connection with the characters or personally liked the writing which i’m sad about cause i was really into it at the beginning.
overall i would still recommend as i just don’t think it was for me!
✨ “This fills my soul. You . . . you fill my soul.” ✨
Simply, this book is gripping, suspenseful and compelling.
It’s captivating in such a surreal and suspenseful way. I was desperate to know more. I needed to know more. Reading this was an experience like no other, its story so unique, and I loved every moment reading Unwanted. I loved everything about this, the raw savageness of it.
“We know things deep, deep down, secret things, ancient things, that whisper to us, one to the other. You whispered to me. And whispered back.”
The characters—Harper and Lucas 😍 Oh my god! I can’t say too much without spoiling the book, but both the MCs have tragic and traumatic pasts that haunt them. They are driven by their emotional toil and need for survival. Harper and Lucas are what initially intrigued me and god I needed to know more! Between Harper and Lucas is both a deep curiosity, a lure, an undeniable chemistry. Lucas and Harper are connected in ways so many are unable to understand, a thread from a past long ago tying them together in the present. Whispers of their past bleed into their futures.
Unwanted isn’t your usual romance, which is why I was so incredibly captivated by it. The story is unique and gives a new perspective on life, society and how we live—and everything that goes along with that. Mia is beyond talented to create such a work of art, weaving romance, suspense and history between the pages, between Lucas and Harper.
Phenomenal. Heartbreakingly beautiful.
Unwanted is the story of waiting and hoping. Following two murders in a small town in Montana, Harper, a wilderness tourism guide, is called in to assist the sheriff. A man only described as savage is a potential lead in the case. He is a man of the wilderness, having been isolated from society for years.
Lucas does not have a last name. Lucas does not have many things, except for his survival instincts, intuition, and intelligence.
Secrets of the case and Lucas' history are uncovered, and Harper's own history once again rise to the surface. As Harper assists in the case, she delves into Lucas' life... and who he really is. Is he the savaged and uncivilised man people believe him to be? Or is he a man who has done his best to survive in overwhelming conditions stacked against him?
The parallels between The Battle of Thermopylae and Lucas are clear. But I loved the allusion so much; it added depth to Lucas’s tragic experiences and all that he had to do to survive. Clearly not a passing reference, I feel this will be enlightened even more in the coming books of this series.
Mia writes the most broken and tortured heroes, and I love them so much. There’s a beauty in power in seeing those who are broken heal and find their way in the world, to find love when it’s something they never could have imagined.
The stories of the unwanted children is so heartbreaking. The children who “were bred for battle”. This is the perfect beginning of an incredible new series, Men and Monsters, and I can’t wait for the next book in this romantic suspense series!
I loved this book!
I loved the mix of thriller and romance, it had the perfect balance between the two without favouring one over the other

"I want wild. I want you. All of you. The best and the worst and everything in between."
As with all of Mia Sheridan's books, this isn't a straight forward love story. It's not a cute rom com, but it instead a story of survival and fate and finding yourself. There is a suspense plot in here as well, which takes up a decent chunk of the book. I thought this would focus more on the love story between Jak and Harper. I don't necessarily think this stuck the landing- the reveal at the end was a little out of left field, and relied too much on coincidence. (view spoiler)
I wish we had gotten more time of Harper and Jak actually spending time together. They have an instant connection, and that very quickly moves into them being together. Once together, they're SOLIDLY together and don't discuss much about their relationship, and we don't get to see them getting to know each other as much as we're told that it happens.
I also wish we had gotten more closure at the end. We find out what had been going on that sent Jak out into wilderness alone, but we never see those at fault get caught, or held responsible.
One last 'also'- the 2024 Bloom Books version is a beautiful cover.
Thank you to Netgalley and publishing team for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.
I read this book in one day! It wasn’t what I expected at all but I was thoroughly hooked from the beginning.
Jak lives alone in the middle of the wilderness and has been for a long time until there’s a murder and he’s a person of interest. Harper lives alone in the city after being in foster care since her parent’s death when she was little. Now she’s helping out the police with an investigation that leads her right to Jak’s door. And he may have more answers about her parent’s deaths than either of them realizes.
This was such a good mystery and I couldn’t put it down because I needed to figure out who did it and why!
4/5 stars I will definitely be recommending this book!
I am so excited this is getting re-released with a new cover. I absolutely loved this story the first time I read it and even though it clearly states "This book was previously published under the title Savaged." I glazed right over it until I started reading and thought to myself wow this story is amazing but seems so familiar. You know why? Because I already read it!! This book is one of those ones that I continue to think about months and months later and I often try to find books that are similar to this one but haven't found many.
This is a romantic thriller/mystery with a strong female lead and a "savage" male character but the character development is wonderfully done. I absolutely adore Lucas and he deserves the world. This is probably my favorite Mia Sheridan book to date.
First off, thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review ❤️
Unwanted is an edited, re-titled book that Mia wrote five years ago, originally called “Savaged.” I never read the original.
Trigger warnings include sexual assault, child trafficking, murder, violence, drug abuse, child abandonment, gore, and kidnapping. This book is not for those with a gentle stomach.
I enjoy both suspense and romance novels, and found myself unable to put down this combo of the two genres. This book was terribly heartbreaking, but filled with so much tangible love and hope, and has a happy ending. I loved seeing the characters heal and grow together.
I did find some of Jak’s thoughts, dialogue and knowledge to be a bit strange, even though given his circumstances. Some of it was hard to believe. But overall I loved his character so much and found him to be so absolutely precious. I wanted to hug him all throughout the book.
I love the concept of found family between Mark, Laurie, Jak and Harper as well ❤️ I’d highly recommend this book to anyone who is able to get through some of the violence, gore and depravity.
This was a page turner! I couldn’t put this book down even if I tried. I finished in one sitting and immediately wanted more stories from Mia Sheridan. I hope she continues with the Men and Monsters series. It’s the exact kind of thriller I’ve been looking for.
They were just kids. babies really in the grand scheme of things. Poor, poor Jack and the others. Poor Harper and the life she had to endure after her parent’s death. My heart hurts for them but also the genuine love they share almost makes the horrible past worth it.
Detective Gallagher’s character reminds me of Hopper from Stranger Things. I love the found family between them and Harper/Jack, the Christmas scene was so sweet and raw. Hell, majority of this story was raw.
Jack’s grandfather was the GOAT. I wanted to hate him, but he was a good man, as misguided as he may have been. I’m sad Jack didn’t get more time getting to know him.
Pup made me cry. I needed justice for him. I needed Isaac to suffer and I’m sad Jack didn’t get to do it, but also relieved for Jack’s mental health that he didn’t get the vengeance he wanted.
The wilderness is both terrifying and magical. While Jack lost so much being isolated, he also learned so many primal things that helped him survive. The true beauty in nature was always there, just not always easy to see, especially in harsh winter.
As always, Mia made the story come full circle and everything mad perfect sense. If I never read Archers Voice this would easily be my favorite story by her. I will be adding this to my comfort read rotation.
This book was very twisty and suspenseful! A pleasant surprise to me. I enjoyed reading this story because it was a very “bingeable” book. Romance + Mystery all wrapped into one fantastic book!
Thank you NetGalley and Bloom Books for the arc of this book.
Mia Sheridan is a remarkable author. She weaves stories with interesting characters, action and romance. This was one of my favorites of hers! Thank you for the arc!
Thank you netgalley for the E-ARC.
I have no words other than MS knows how to write a damn good book
Mia is a must-read author of mine. I could not fall asleep after beginning Unwanted. The writing is intriguing, and I wanted to know more about this mysterious main character. Such a memorable book! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Mia Sheridan’s suspenseful books are always twisty and a little disturbing (just the way I like them). I really enjoyed the direction the story headed. There were, in my opinion, a few missed opportunities to go deeper into some of the psychological components. Still, it was a totally bingeable read and one not to miss.
Everyone READ this book it’s PERFECT and it keeps you on your toes, I think about these characters one a day and it is a perfect blend of romance and mystery mixed into one
