This book tore me apart and put me back together so many times, as only Mia Sheridan can do. There were even a few twists and turns that I was unable to predict, which is not common. Incredible, gut-wrenching story of survival, loss, love, and forgiveness.

Thanks to NetGalley for the arc!
I’m slow to rate this for an arc, but here it goes. I have loved every book I’ve read by Mia Sheridan, Archer’s Voice was a favorite!! Unfortunately, this one did not compare - I felt like it was a little slow and dragged at times. While it was entertaining, it didn’t grab my attention. I see most others loved this book, and I’m in the minority here of just thinking it was alright. Not horrible, but not a favorite either unfortunately.

I loved this book, it had a little bit of everything. mystery/crime wondering what and who, lose, love, resolve. I felt Mia did a great job combining them to make an interesting plot that kept me reading till the end. I am happy it was wrapped up with a bow and we were left wondering about Harper or jak, and new part of their life is to come in a second book and hopefully finding more about the “others” that we put in the same situation as jak. A book I will recommend to friend and a book club alike. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for the early read for my honest review. 4.5 stars

I went in blind to this book having selected it because I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read previously by Mia Sheridan (Archer’s Voice is one of my absolute favorites) and I was so glad I did. Unwanted is the perfect mix of suspense, thriller and romance. It’s got a heartbreaking story but also heartwarming and the main characters are the most resilient individuals ever imaginable after everything they went through. So many times I wanted to reach through the pages and give them hugs.

Definitely pick this book up if you are a fan of romantic suspense or thrillers with a strong romance. This is my second favorite Mia Sheridan book- nothing can top Archer’s Voice in my opinion but Unwanted got really really close.

I loved this! A good wilderness mystery that keeps you wondering what is going to happen next and what already happened? Can't wait for the next book in this series.

When wilderness guide Harper Ward is summoned to the small town sheriff's office in Helena Springs, Montana, to provide assistance on a case, she is shocked to find that their only suspect in the double murder investigation is a man described as a savage.

But the longer she watches the man known only as Lucas on the station surveillance camera, the more intrigued she becomes. He certainly looks primitive with his unkempt appearance and animal skin attire, but she also sees intelligence in his eyes, sensitivity in his expression. Who is he? And how is it possible that he's lived alone in the forest since he was a small child?

As secrets begin to emerge, Harper is thrust into something bigger and more diabolical than she ever could have imagined. And standing right at the center of it all, is Lucas. But is he truly the wild man he appears to be? A cold blooded killer? An innocent victim? Or a perplexing mix of all three?

Harper must find out the answers to these questions because the more time she spends with him, the more she risks losing her heart.

Mia Sheridan can pull you into a story and hold keep you hooked until the end! I had so many moments reading that I gasped and couldn't put it down. It's an original romantic suspense that is a must read!

Oh my lord I do not even know how to explain this one! This was my first ever Mia Sheridan, and let me tell you, I want more! I loved all the twists and turns! I loved the mystery of it all. I had so many questions at every single turn and I did not want to put it down, I had to know what was going on!

When a two murders turns the town of Helena Springs on its head, everyone is on their toes. When the murder of one of the victims leads the cops to Jaks, a man living in the woods on his own on the property of one of the victims, the questions continue to pile. But you know what they say, broken people attract broken people. Harper knows the woods around Helena Springs better then anyone else, so when she is sent to help the agents around property around the murders, she can't help but keep showing up to learn more about the mysterious mountain man.

For a book this serious, it was pretty cute reading about Harper and Jak and watching their feelings grow and watching Jak learn about the way of the outside world, while also allowing him to learn about how to behave around other people. but watching him fully immerse broke my heart at moments. Harper's story took a bit of a back seat, then kind of got confusing for me at the end, and she felt like a bit of a dud at moments. But for me the story was all about Jak.

How the book is structured it wasn't what I was used to and took me a minute to get a grasp on it. It is tri POV, while being dual Timeline, and third person. So took me a little bit of a minute to catch up and figure out what was going on, but once I did. I FLEW!!

I know this is going to be a series, but I have no clue what is coming next!

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Writing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes, etc: Fated Mates, Murder Mystery, Found Family
POV: Multi, 3rd Person
3rd Act Breakup?: No

The Praise: This book absolutely broke my heart. I loved Jak and how kind and sweet he was despite his situation, which made the scenes of what he had to endure to survive so painful. I loved Harper, too, with her kind heart and the deep sadness she carried. I really enjoyed the trust Jak and Harper had in each other and how patient and understanding Harper was as she helped Jak navigate civilization.

The Critique: Honestly, none!

Final Thoughts: I loved this book. It was intriguing, sweet, and heartbreakingly sad.

A very unique romance. This was fast paced and attention grabbing but the story line did feel a little dramatic and unrealistic at times. Mia Sheridan has a great way of writing suspenseful romances.

Thank you so much to Sourcebooks and NetGalley for letting me ARC read this book!

After reading Archer's voice I thought I was prepared for this, a person shunned and outside of society meets a woman who finds and falls for him. Assuming she helps bring him into society and they live happily ever after. It seemed sweet, like a modern Tarzan. What I wasn't prepared for was how brutal this book would be. It has so much trauma, DARK trauma, which isn't one of my favorite styles. I should have sought out the trigger warnings for this one because it really hit me hard a few times. The main one being TW: Animal Death. That normally would have been a DNF immediately, but I wanted to try and solve the mystery within so I pushed on. It was also hard to follow the constant flipping back and forth through several timelines. The POV isn't labeled by chapter, and I think that is a misstep. It made you search for context clues often to find out who's POV it was.

Overall, there's nothing inherently bad about this book. The writing was good. The romance was a bit awkward, and took until halfway so its slow burn. I just wasn't into the Thriller/murder mystery part of it other than wanting to know if my hunches were correct, which they were. Buttoned up very neatly after being pretty messy throughout. Unfortunately it just wasn't for me so I gave it 3 stars.

This book is not what I expected. Once I started I could not put this book down. The story kept me guessing. And boy did I get it all wrong!! I did not see the conclusion coming at all. This is such a great fast paced mystery! I loved the main characters!

A story about love, hope, loneliness, forgiveness, and survival. It gave me a little bit of a Hunger Games vibe mixed with a hint of Beauty and the Beast which was nostalgic. For sure an engaging mystery that showcases the individuality of the human experience and the impact of environment on character development.

Mia never disappoints, and this book was no different.

I love all of her romance novels, but this is the first time I've read one of her more mystery-focused books. Tarzan was always a favourite story of mine, so this was an easy yes for that aspect alone. Jak's story was heartbreaking. I definitely teared up more than once, which isn't uncommon for me with books from this author. In this case, it was so easy to sense how much he was struggling and how badly he wanted a connection with someone. I was rooting for him from the first second he got picked up on the road.

His relationship with Harper was one of the sweetest things ever. They definitely needed each other, and I loved seeing them find their way together. I smiled as many times as I teared up. They had such an easy friendship, a near instant trust in each other, and some of the cutest, funniest moments I've read in a while. Harper was such a strong character considering everything she went through, and despite that I think she needed him just as much. They're honestly perfect.

Overall I really enjoyed this. There were plenty of twists and little connections I didn't see coming, and I felt everything wrapped up nicely. It was a very entertaining read that I already want to revisit.

Even though a lot can be completely unbelievable, I certainly enjoyed the storyline. The story goes back and forth from past and present and is full of mystery/suspense to try and figure it out - a true "whodunit".

Add on a slow burn romance, and I am hooked.

An adult now, Jak doesn’t remember much of his life prior to 8 years old. He remembers being with a strange man (and other kids) at the top of a cliff, the cliff giving way, and then having to survive in the wilderness. He comes upon a man’s cabin (Isaac), who lets him use his spare cabin - a ways away. Even though Jak has a warm place to sleep, he still needs to find food in order to survive the harsh winters in Montana.

Current happenings in the closest, small Montana town are that two people have been murdered by a bow and arrow in a short number of weeks. One in her hotel room and Isaac (the man that Jak has “traded” with the 15+ winters he has been in the woods, in his cabin.

This brings Jak to town where he gives his name as Lucas. The local FBI are involved (Agent Mark) as well as a local guide (Harper) to try to solve these killings.

What is the true background to Jak’s difficult, estranged life? Did he kill Isaac, the man who gave him a place to live and actively traded with him (and also lied to him)?

It’s a slow burn but I did enjoy reading it. All the struggles the characters had to endure in order to survive, wow. The story was really captivating and well written, it has romance and suspense, a great combination in a book.

I received this ebook from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

in the beginning, I had a hard time getting into Jak’s story. It almost felt like we were thrown into the middle of a story and it was hard to figure out what was going on.

the whole plot with Jak wasn’t my favorite, it just felt so far out there that it didn’t really fit with the rest of the story.

and I have to again ask. what is with Mia Sheridan and men having their first times????
