Why did we need to kill of pup? Honestly I’m over it. Every time the story starts to get good it flips to the past. It’s not keeping me hooked in, I’m getting annoyed at how long it’s taking to see movement of the main plot line. I had high hopes, maybe I just had a bad taste in my mouth after pup.

Mia Sheridan knows how to write a beautiful story. I’ve loved all of the books I’ve read by her. I loved the mountain vibes of this book and the descriptions of the beautiful scenery. I loved the off the grid living story line with a bit of mystery added in. Such a good book! Loved it!

I hate to say this, but at the moment I'm going to put the book down and DNF. I'm a huge fan of Mia Sheridan, and expect I will likely try this one again. Unfortunately at this time, the book isn't capturing my attention whatsoever and I'm finding aspects of the writing difficult to get past.

I'm thankful to Bloom Books and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC and hope to update my review soon when I attempt the book again.

Previously titled Savaged and released a few years ago, this story has been updated and gained a new title and a new cover.

🐺 Tarzan-inspired
🐺 “Wild” MMC
🐺 Crime/murder/whodunnit
🐺 Romantic suspense
🐺 Found family
🐺 Dual timeline

Wow, this is one that will stick with me for awhile. Jak’s story is breathtakingly inspiring and horrifying. I loved Harper, her strength, and her compassion. I could wax poetic about each character really, except the actual Bad Guys.

I loved the crime thriller interlaced with romantic suspense, and I appreciate when varying seemingly unconnected pieces of information all come together in the end. I did think it was a bit drawn out and therefore a bit cyclical at times, and there were a few parts you really have to suspend belief. But overall a good solid read!

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Bloom Books and Ms. Sheridan for the opportunity to read an ARC of the re-released title. An honest review was requested but not required.

I wasn't aware when I requested this that it had been published previously, and I can't speak to what has changed between its initial publication and its re-release. I'm familiar with Mia Sheridan and was expecting an angsty romance, but I was really surprised that the plot was more primarily a suspense/thriller/survivalist story. The romance takes a definite backseat as it should. I think it would have been a stronger story without the romance but I can certainly understand the impulse to give Jak the sort of ending he deserves after the childhood he had.

The story is told in alternating chapters; present-day, in which Harper has been asked to serve as a local driver/guide for the FBI agent assigned to two murder cases in Helena Springs Montana, and the past, in which a child named Jak undergoes physical, mental and emotional extremities (extremities, torture, tomato, tomahto) as he tries to survive in an unspecified wilderness.

Jak is a heart-wrenching character. He is easy to like: despite everything he has suffered, he has a good heart and is not closed off or bitter. I don't want to spoil anything in the story (although it's pretty easy to guess who, how and why) so I won't say much more. Harper's story slotted into Jak's a little too conveniently but as I said, it's very easy to want Jak to have that happy ending.

In real life I honestly don't think that a person who underwent Jak's many years of suffering and isolation would have as easy a time transitioning back to society, never mind a romantic relationship. That's the magic of literature, I suppose, in which we can let our characters walk off the pages in peace and happiness as opposed to many years of therapy and anxiety. There are some dark scenes in this book and some portions might be difficult to read. As a suspense/thriller I would give it five stars (despite a certain amount of predictability) and I thought the flashback portions were very well written. As a romance, I'd say 3.5 stars. I'll go with a 4 star average. I would absolutely try another book by this author.

Recommended as long as the reader can handle some dark elements in their romantic suspense.

Thank you, NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I've only read a few of Mia Sheridan's books, but every single one has always been a hit. This one was no different. The storyline was unique, and unlike anything I've read recently. This is great because sometimes romance novels can get a bit redundant when you read one right after the other. I enjoyed the FMC and MMC. Their chemistry and the tension was *chef's kiss*. Mia Sheridan has a way of adding in suspense that really just makes the story a bit more than romance. I loved this,

Thank you to the publisher and to netgalley!! The book begins with Harper who is living and working in Montana as a tour guide. One day, two people being found dead, when a mysterious-looking man with a bow and arrows is spotted who happened to live very close to the crime scene (Jac). A unique blend of romance and mystery. A Tarzan inspired story :)

When nature guide Harper gets called in to help the sheriff's office with a murder investigation she never expected to meet Lucas, the man who raised himself in the wilderness from a young age.

This was a fun modern-day Tarzan tale! Here's what I liked:

The retelling: I've never read a Tarzan retelling and this was a super cool one. I liked getting all of Lucas's backstory and how he pretty much raised himself. The book keeps the story pretty close while also updating it for modern times.

Lucas: My heart broke for him several times. Check TW. There were a few times that really broke me along with him.

The love story: I really liked Harper and Lucas together. They needed each other so much. Watching them come together made my heart swoon.

All in all, this was a really cool retelling!

Thank you to the author and publisher for the advanced copy!

”I was human once, but now I’m part animal. Which one do you see?”

The Call of the Wild meets Lost in this suspenseful romance from Mia Sheridan. If you preferred Jane & Tarzan’s wild love story over any of the Disney princes & princesses when you were a kid, and you like a little mystery with your makeout sessions, then this book is for you!

”If the rules of nature were the rules of humans, he would have claimed her right that minute, fought a battle against other males for her. And won.”

Wilderness guide Harper Ward knows that no one can survive alone in the woods during the harsh Montana winters. And yet, that’s exactly what Lucas has been doing since he was a young boy: he has learned how to fend for himself, living completely undetected in an isolated cabin, barely protected from the elements. And now he’s a suspect in multiple murders. Is anyone safe from this mysterious mountain main? Is Harper?

”The forest was no longer the place that made sense. Everything was different now.”

This was such a sweet, romantic story. It reminded me a little bit of Mean Streak by Sandra Brown, with the wintry cabin setting and the misunderstood, lonely MMC. The mystery got a little lost in places for me, but that’s okay, because I was focused on Harper & Lucas/Jak’s relationship anyway! 4 solid stars.

A huge thank you to Mia Sheridan, Sourcebooks, Bloom Books, and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Omg Mia Sheridan literally NEVER misses. This is the best book I’ve ever read. Filled with thriller, crime, and angsty with so much love. I have no words to describe my love for this. I have no idea how Mia Sheridan always comes up with all this drama but it always eats. JAK MY BELOVED. HE WAS SO PRECIOUS. LIKE LITERALLY I WANTED RO HUG HIM. Ugh this book was so good. It was everything.
