This book was overwhelming for me. The first 4 chapters we are introduced and given the POV of 4 different characters. Harper, Mark, Jak and Lucas. We also later find out one of these is going back in time, so now we have different timelines. You get their stories bit by bit as you progress through the chapters, but you then need to keep track of all these characters stories until they intersect. There are multiple twists in the story. There are deaths, both animal and human. And that not even all of it. I just felt as it was one to many layers. The premise is fantastic. A wilderness guide meets a "wild man" and they fall for each other. Trazan 2024, I'm there. However, that was just a small part of the web that unravels to bring these two characters together. This book is thriller over romance. And the romance is SLOW burn.
I absolutely loved this book! I LOVE thrillers and romance and this book was the perfect combo!
From the prologue I was hooked and the suspense and details just kept building for me. This was my first Mia Sheridan book and I’m looking forward to reading others. The flow of language just worked really well. The characters played off of each other well and I just really enjoyed it.
I'd like to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for the opportunity to review this ARC, in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the arc of this book. This book was not what I expected. The book goes between current day and throughout Jak's life growing up. This book also alternates between Jak and Harper's point of view. This book has many twists and turns and they do not stop until the end of the book.
Firstly, thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review:
Mia writes innocent sheltered heroes like it’s her dream job- and maybe it is. I fell in love with Archer in Archer’s Voice and now Jak in this book.
This book really surprised me. I’ve never been a huge fan of romantic thrillers, but MAN, I was invested in BOTH. The romance was amazing, the chemistry off the charts, and the found family found her was so sweet.
The murder mystery however, took me by surprise. I didn’t expect to get that invested- and even if we didn’t get all of the answers, we got a lot and it blew. my. mind.
Top notch work, once again, Mia.
I did enjoy this but out all of her writing it was my least favorite. I couldn’t connect with the characters and I wasn’t super interested in the plot.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
My thoughts about this book are a little bit all over the place- so bear with me.
We start the book in a weird survival type instance with kids and the need to survive. Then we bounce to two kidders and bringing in Harper, a wilderness guide, to help solve the murders. Then we meet ‘Lucas’ who has spent his entire life off the grid and is a suspect in the murders. As Harper is trying to help with the murders, she spends more time with ‘Lucas’ and his past.
This book gives a lot of interesting similarities to Sheridan’s other story ‘Archer’s Voice’ in that there is a relationship between a woman who has grown up in a ‘typical’ environment who falls in love and coaches a man who has grown up in a very different environment and without consistent socialization. The murders and ‘project’ was very lord of the flies esc. That whole part of it was bleh, I did like ‘Lucas’’ story of survival and his relationship with Harper. In rounding up to 4 stars but this was overal 3.5 for me.
No Spoilers
If you loved Archer’s Voice, I think you will love this one too. This book is more of a mystery/ suspense than a contemporary romance although it does have a beautiful romance throughout. The story unravels as mysteries are revealed, some parts heartbreaking and some parts beautiful. It is about a boy left in the woods to fend for himself to survive however he could and the mystery surrounding that incident. As an adult he becomes involved in a murder investigation meeting Harper, a wilderness guide in the process. He is enmeshed in this new world after being isolated for so long. A few different stories are told using flashbacks that include some unexpected twists and turns.
The MMC is swoon worthy and unique and the FMC is just as endearing. I found myself wanting to focus more on the two of them and was excited to get to their chapters in the present but the mystery definitely enhanced their storyline and plot. This was a really good romantic suspense with surprising reveals, a charming yet steamy romance and great plot. The side characters including the "villains" also add great characterization to the story. Overall, I recommend this book to romantic mystery lovers and those who already love this author!
Thank you NetGalley and Bloom Books for this ebook arc!
I really enjoyed this story! It was suspenseful and emotional, and i really looked forward to picking up the book every night before bed.
The “whodunnit” and twist was a little predictable, but it didn’t take away from the story at all.
Although I am not much for thrillers or anything that’s not a romantic comedy, I think this was well written and attention grabbing. It’s not the book for me BUT it is for some! Hence my high rating. I love Sheridans writing.
Thank you very much to Netgalley and Source Books (Bloom Books) for the opportunity to read and rate this ARC!
I really liked Harper and Jak as characters and enjoyed seeing their relationship unfold. However, the romance played such a small part of the book, which was fine and sort of what I expected going into it. I just didn’t feel compelled by the murder mystery aspect, which felt very predictable from the start.
mia sheridan you magician you. she can write any genre and i will simply eat it up! this was no different- sheridan wrote a beautiful love story woven into a plot line that captivated me from start to finish and i never wanted to put it down!!!
Harper, a wilderness guide, is summoned to help provide assistance to a case potentially involving a man being described as a savage. But in her eyes, Lucas is so much more sensitive and intelligent than everyone thinks he is, despite him having been living in the woods for a very long time. As they try to figure out who killed Isaac, they uncover so many horrible secrets.
This romance (previously pubished under the title Savaged) is much more than a romance. I actually thought it was more mystery/suspense than romance for most of the book. I am one of the very few who are not major fans of MS. The romance is too much of a slow burn for me. I don't mind slow burns, when there's at least some kindle burning along the way. It's been a while since I've read Archer's Voice, but I felt like Lucas' character was a carbon copy of Archer (who I didn't like...). This story was very reminiscent of Tarzan, with a much darker underside. The premise of the story is very good (although a horrible one to even think about), and I really appreciated it. Were the revelations shocking? By their nature, yes, but not by their level of predictability. I just don't vibe with the author's writing. The last 20% really had me hooked, but had I not been reading this for NetGalley, I would've DNF'd. I have read many stellar reviews, and I know that MS has many, many fans, so don't take my word for it!
I received an advanced review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
a dazzling debut from mia sheridan
as a fan of romance but not so much in suspense, i'm surprised that i fell in love with this book after reading the first chapter
this book is like other mia sheridan books. Astonishing. Well-polished. Extraodinary.

In true 𝐌𝐢𝐚 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧 fashion, this story broke my heart into pieces and then knitted it back together by the end! This story is now tied in my heart with Archer’s Voice.
I was so captivated by the characters and the way this book was written through multiple POV until everything came together in the end.
Lucas’, a man who has lived most of his life isolated and alone in the wilderness, was such a complex character. If you loved Archer’s Voice I feel like you will love Lucas. He is very innocent in a lot of ways due to his isolation. There is romance in this story, including open door spice. Lucas only has a very primal understanding of romance so it was very sweet to see him trying to impress Harper.
Harper is a woman who has looked for answers in her parent’s disappearance when she was a child. From the very first moment she sees Lucas, she sees a captivated by him.
The book also has flashbacks that left me with a heart that ached for the little boy just trying to survive. The little boy’s wolf, Pup, stole my whole heart. 🥹

Wasn’t sure what to expect going into it but overall it sucked me in! The suspense romance genre is severely underrated!! Unique storyline & characters you feel like you know!
This book! It tugged at my heartstrings and had the perfect amounts of mystery and intrigue. Jak and Harper’s connection was instant and I loved the twists and turns finding out how connected they really were. The spice was prefect. I seriously couldn’t put this one down.
I stumbled upon Mia Sheridan's books late last year and have quickly devoured several of her titles. The depth of her writing is incredible. Her character development is top-notch in my eyes. Unwanted is no different. From beginning to end, the way each character grows and melds into each other is incredible. I enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more of hers. I had no idea what kind of book I was getting into when I started it, but quickly became hooked. It kept me on my toes and I couldn't put it down!
I don’t even have a bad thing to say about this book. I loved the plot and I thought the suspense/mystery was so captivating from beginning to end, it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. Both the romance and the suspense aspect of the book were well balanced. I LOVED the characters and seeing Jak’s past was so interesting! I’m so glad both him and Harper got their happy ending at the end. This book gave me major Archer’s voice vibes (with a little side of mystery) so if you liked that book then you’ll love this one!!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
* I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this book. All thoughts are my own.
This book pulled me right in from the jump! I liked the back and forth and whodunnit. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll ever recover from either of the wolf scenes. Those really hurt my soul. I also thought their relationship flip flopped between sweet and a little uncomfortable because he was so “innocent” but had “animal instincts” and it just didn’t really feel right to me. I think he really needed time to understand the world before he hopped into a relationship where she was already head over heels for him. But I think if you mainly focus on the mystery it’s a very interesting book!
Would recommend.
Unwanted had me hooked from the very first line! It is a unique and well-written story that will keep you engrossed from the beginning to the end.
Harper is a wilderness guide who is asked to assist the police with the investigation of a murder that occurs in the woods. Jak has lived alone in the woods since he was a child and is considered a wild animal by townspeople. The story follows Harper and Jack and how their lives intersect. I love the innocence of Jak and how honest he is with his interactions with others. Although Harper and Jak were raised differently, in some ways their lives were very similar. Unwanted has just the perfect mix of romance and suspense. Highly recommend!
