I LOVED this book!! This has been my favorite Frieda book, and I have read a lot of them!
I would truly be scared to try to date in today’s world. With all of the social media, dating apps, etc. This book took my fear of dating to a whole different level!
Sydney has been trying to find a decent guy, but has found some creepy men instead. She then ends up finding a guy who seems great! Is this the perfect man for her? Or is it too good to be true?
Whether you are in a relationship or still trying to find the right person, this book will keep you on your toes and keep your interest until the very end. Murder, love, mystery… this book has it all! I felt it was totally unpredictable and I didn’t want to put it down!
Another great Freida read! I know she’s the queen of twists so I try and think of the least likely character but she still manages to surprise me. I was invested in Sydney’s character and could feel the emotions she was feeling. definitely a roller coaster ride it was!
Another great Freida read! As always, I love the twists and turns her books take. If you're familiar with Freida McFadden, I'd say this book isn't quite up there with The Housemaid as far as twists, but on par with The Teacher. I'll definitely be recommending to patrons at the library.
You can always trust Freida McFadden to deliver a popcorn thriller that entertains. This was a fun read that touches on the perils of modern romance and the dating market (i.e. things are dreadful and the author gets it).
As a thriller, it wasn't exceptional until the ending which I definitely did not see coming. Quite a clever twist, I must say. I also enjoyed the dual timelines and how you think you know where the story is going... only to proven wrong!
An engaging, breezy read that promises a good time!
This book was amazing!. My sister did end up spoiling it for me before I finished, not knowing but even though she did spoil it I was still questioning it. The unreliable characters really keep you guessing. 5 stars even with my sister telling me the ending.
Freida McFadden - you're growing on me!
The Boyfriend is a twisty mystery with dual POVs and two different timelines. Our book starts out with Sydney on (another) bad date with (another) crappy guy she met through a dating app. She's as nice as she can be to get the date over with, but this dude is persistant and finally Sydney has to defend herself to get him to leave her alone. It helps that a handsome stranger came to her aid - but maybe he's not as perfect as he seems?
High school teen Tom is madly in love with Daisy. He is borderline obsessed with her and will do anything to stay with her.
Somehow these two timelines begin to intersect and secrets are revealed.
This was not my first McFadden novel, but it definitely has been my favorite so far. Just when I thought I had it figured out, something else slips in to throw me off course. It was just twisty enough to keep me wanting to read and, while the characters were a bit...dumb?...I was really rooting for Sydney throughout the whole thing.
That's all I will say because with Freida's books, the less you know the better!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Freida McFadden has done it again.
I became a fast fan of Freida this year and I was so excited to read The Boyfriend early! It was so, so good.
Just when you think you’ve got a Freida book figured out— YOU’RE WRONG! 😑 I never even try to guess how one of her books might end because I’ve come to fully expect a twist in the last chapter and even possibly the last page 🤣.
Im addicted to Freida’s books and I’m slowly working my way through all of them. Her books never fully disappoint even when they were my cup of team.
The Boyfriend however was right up my alley and quite possibly became my new favorite Freida book. She just did not wrong with this one in my opinion.
A twist I cannot even name for spoiler reasons, about had me fall out my chair. I was not expecting it all.
This one is so good and definitely worth the read!! You will not be disappointed. I promise!
Ahhhhhhhh. This was great!!! Just when I think there’s no way she can do it again she does!! I thought for sure I had it figured out. I was wrong. Excellent twist!
Loved this book! As always, it kept me hooked all the way through, and then blew my mind at the end. Well done Freida!!!
Freida kept the twists coming with this one. It really makes you second guess online dating. Should you trust your gut or your heart? Obsession is alive and well and one you would have never seen coming!
Thank You Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an arc in exchange for an honest review!
"The Boyfriend" by Freida McFadden is a thrilling rollercoaster from start to finish. McFadden masterfully builds suspense with a gripping plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well-developed and complex, making their motivations and conflicts feel authentic and relatable.
The pacing is impeccable, with twists and turns that are both surprising and satisfying. McFadden's sharp writing and keen insight into human relationships elevate the narrative, immersing readers in a world filled with tension and intrigue.
This book is not just a page-turner; it also offers thoughtful commentary on trust and vulnerability. Overall, "The Boyfriend" is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers, and it’s sure to leave you breathless. An outstanding achievement!
“Unbecredifabulous”! IYKYK 🐢
Great read as ALWAYS! Just like all the other books, you think you know until you don’t. Freida never fails us!
So thankful to get this as a. Early reader! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Freida McFadden has crafted another unputdownable thriller! The Boyfriend pulls you in from the very first page and never lets go. The story follows Sydney Shaw, a relatable and engaging protagonist, as she navigates the ups and downs of modern dating—only to find herself caught in a web of tension, mystery, and danger.
What makes this book exceptional is its perfectly paced suspense. McFadden keeps you on edge with twists and turns that left me second-guessing everything. The psychological depth of the characters and the chilling atmosphere make for an engrossing read. Just when you think you have it all figured out, the story surprises you without giving anything away too soon.
I loved how the book balanced romance, intrigue, and suspense without ever feeling overwhelming. The writing is sharp, the plot tight, and the tension builds masterfully as the stakes rise. This is a story that will keep you up late, racing to the finish!
If you love psychological thrillers with clever twists and compelling characters, this book is an absolute must-read. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a gripping, suspenseful ride without predictable outcomes!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book however I was disappointed with the ending. McFadden always has two twists, not sure this one did. I feel like there was some left out from the ‘before’ with Tom like why didn’t the chief follow up about the stain? Too much details that weren’t followed up on.
This was absolutely amazing! I was totally enthralled with this story from beginning to end, I could barely put it down, and when I finally read the last page, the house was dark, I was hungry, thirsty, needed to pee and my neck was stiff. But damn, it was worth it!
I enjoyed this book when it started out, but started getting really annoyed with how desperate the women and men in this novel were to be in a relationship! I wanted to yell at Sydney's mom, "A man does not define her!" However, the twist at the end saved this one for me, I thought I had it figured out, but it went in a totally different direction! This is my second novel by McFadden, and I will definitely be reading more.
I've read and loved many books by McFadden, and this one is her best yet. I couldn't put it down and did not see the twists at the end. Highly recommend!
The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden was kind of blah for me. I had a hard time liking or relating to any of the characters and found them to be a bit unrealistic. As adults living in New York City apartments, there was very little talk of them actually going to work. The character "Kevin" played such a big part in the first half of the book, then seemed to drop off in the middle and then briefly returned for a few sentences towards the end.
Prolific Freida McFadden is back with another page turning psychological thriller set in New York City and full of crimes of passion.
Sydney Sheldon is a single woman living in New York City who at thirty-four is tired of online dating. While on a terrible date, Sydney fights off unwanted advances and is rescued by a handsome stranger. The stranger, a doctor named Tom Brewer, and Sydney begin to date and she thinks she’s found the perfect boyfriend. The brutal murder of a young woman sets the city on edge especially when it appears the murderer might be someone the woman dated. Sydney begins to question if her perfect man has his own secrets.
As the book progresses, the paranoia builds while every man Sydney or her friends have dated becomes a suspect. Sydney’s circle of friends and ex-boyfriends are described with realistic detail and the relationships are believable. The single dating scene in New York City becomes even scarier than real life. With unexpected twists, gory details and tension filled suspense, The Boyfriend is impossible to put down.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poison Pen Press for the advanced reader’s copy.
OMG I never guessed this book would end up like it did!!!!!!!!! I've seen some readers say that, they guessed it early on, or figured it out. I don't do that, when I'm reading a book I'm just in the story ya know. This book is so good with so many twists!!!!!!!!! Freida McFadden is the queen of thriller and suspense books.
