Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the early copy of The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden.
If it’s written by Freida, you know I’m going to read her! This book was quite enjoyable just as all of her books tend to be. There was a single sentence that made a light bulb go off and I was like oh, snap, so Y is actually Z! However, I was unable to correctly guess who the killer was. That moment left me like da-yum!!! Another quick and twisty read you’ll want to pick up and devour.

Thank you to Net Galley for providing this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

I have read most of Frieda McFadden’s books, and this is my favorite by far. Fast paced with twists you won’t see coming. The characters in this book are more relatable than others, and the circumstances are more believable. This is a suspenseful thriller you won’t want to miss! 5 stars from me.

Ah online dating...that mostly horrible, rarely stellar, often full of lies rite of passage. Who is the hero and who is the liar? Freida McFadden will keep you guessing! I devour these books like a pint of Ben & Jerry's- in one sitting.

WOW! Freida does it again!!! I was lucky enough to be chosen as an ARC reader for The Boyfriend. This was nothing short of amazing. I truly thought I had it all figured out halfway through. Then of course, Freida throws me through a loop. What I wasn’t expecting was the MULTIPLE loops I was thrown through.

The title “The Boyfriend” makes you assume that a boyfriend may have been the main reason for all of these deaths that were occurring throughout the book. Sydney has MULTIPLE boyfriends which makes this mystery even harder to solve. Especially after reading what Tom had done as a teenager when his mother was away AND how he handled a mouse in his apartment. Halfway through, I was CONVINCED he was the culprit. If you like a good edge of your seat thriller, please read this when it becomes available! You won’t be disappointed. Thank you, Freida for this masterpiece!!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️SO GOOD!! Freida does it again! The Boyfriend is full of twists! Just when you think you’ve got something figured out… nope! Moments of being on the edge of my seat, heart racing, jaw dropping twists! The twists just kept coming until the very end! Thank you for the early ARC read! Will be recommending The Boyfriend to everyone!

The Boyfriend is the perfect thriller that will keep you on your toes and second guessing everyone including yourself the whole way through!

Sydney Shaw is a single accountant in New York spending her nights drinking wine and swiping on her dating app. That is until she gets swept off her feet by a charming and handsome doctor at the local hospital. Then a brutal murder of a young woman sets off a series of events leading to suspicion to arise in what seems like a perfect match. The ultimate question is… does the perfect guy actually exist?

I always love how Freida can make you think you know what’s going on then you can turn the page and you are just shown how much you actually HAVE NO CLUE as to what is actually happening!

This book is pure thriller perfection! There really is not much I can say without spoilers but once the book is published October 1 and you read it since I know you’ve already preordered it 😉, message me and we can discuss it more in depth because I’m itching to talk to someone about it! 5⭐️ book that everyone HAS to read!

Thank you NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press, and Freida McFadden for this ARC copy!

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing this book, with my honest review below.

I was delighted to see that Freida McFadden has a new book out as she is a go to for me for well written and entertaining thrillers. The Boyfriend is no exception and offered an intriguing mystery from the start.

While there are flashbacks to a mysterious teenager called Tom who is obsessed with an innocent girl, Daisy, the heart of this story focuses on Sydney, who has some close girlfriends but can’t seem to find a similarly great boyfriend. After a truly heinous date (trust me, ladies, this one is an amalgamation of all our nightmares) she finds a great guy just as she is exposed to murder and intrigue of those close to her. But who is the murderer and what is fueling them on?

Sydney was a great character and her plot line was incredibly engaging, but the secondary one with Tom and Daisy was even more mysterious to me. When the two came together (after separately delivering amazing twists) I was absolutely sure this was one of the best thrillers Freida McFadden has written, which is a feat given her history.

This delivers a bit of everything, well written characters, and engaging plot (and a secondary one to boot), and of course, a mysterious story with the twists we are all here for. Don’t sleep on this one, it’ll keep have you ignoring all else to finish it!

Omg! 🤯 My head is still spinning from this one! I thought The Housemaid series was my favorite, but The Boyfriend is my new favorite! Devoured this in one day. And the GASP at the end…wowza! I love a good twist and boy Freida can give a twist that twists.

Another dark and twisty ride! Just when I think I know what might happen, I am shocked at every page turn. How does she do it time and time again? A boy obsessed with blood who eventually kills but wants to be good and he eventually ends up dating a woman who is murdered. Did he do it? Was he even her boyfriend? This may have been my favorite book from McFadden yet.

In this masterful mind bender, McFadden intricately weaves together elements of romance, mystery, and danger, creating a truly addictive reading experience. Sydney, the protagonist, is a woman we can all relate to, navigating the treacherous waters of modern dating while grappling with her own insecurities. The suspense builds gradually, layer upon layer, until the explosive climax that will leave you breathless. The Boyfriend is an absolute must-read. This book is a testament to McFadden's talent as a storyteller and a reminder of why she is at the top of her game. Five stars without a

The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden

4.8⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Thriller
Format: ebook ARC (thanks @netgalley and Freida)

Loved:
*Fast-paced
*Medical MMC
*Chronic illness rep
*Serial killer
*Twists

Loved Less:
*Dual timeline

Description:
Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She’s seen men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot.
Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet.
Then the brutal murder of a young woman―the latest in a string of deaths across the coast―confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.
Sydney should feel safe. After all, she is dating the guy of her dreams. But she can’t shake her own suspicions that the perfect man may not be as perfect as he seems. Because someone is watching her every move, and if she doesn’t get to the truth, she’ll be the killer’s next victim...

My opinion:
Great plot (perfect in length and pace) with well developed characters. As with all McFadden books, I could not put this ebook down. I had to know "whodunnit!" I always love books with characters in the medical field due to my medical background. Having the MMC as a medical pathologist was so interesting. I also appreciate that the FMC has a chronic illness. And, of course, Freida does not disappoint with the twisty ending. I always think I have it figured out...and I NEVER do. Very shocked. My only complaint is the dual timeline (I'm not a big fan). I wholly recommend this novel to anyone, especially to those who enjoy thrillers...with some unexpected twists.

A hard-to-put-down thriller with a shocking surprise at the end. Perfect for Sex and the City fans who like to stay up all night turning pages.

One of the strengths of The Boyfriend is its unpredictable plot. Just when you think you have figured out the story, McFadden introduces another twist, keeping you guessing until the very end. The characters are well-developed, with realistic motivations and flaws that add depth to the storyline.

Overall, The Boyfriend is a fast-paced, thrilling read that will appeal to fans of psychological suspense. Frieda McFadden delivers a memorable and chilling tale that explores the dark side of relationships and the lengths people will go to protect their secrets.

Freida did it again! While reading this book I thought I had it all figured out. In my mind I thought I'm getting good at figuring out her books or this one just wasn't it. Boy was I wrong! The twist at the end was one of the best so far. This will be one of the books I tell people to start with!

Freida McFadden is one of my favorite thriller authors of all time. So when Poisoned Pen Press gave me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review, I was beyond excited!

The Boyfriend follows Sydney who is having bad luck after bad luck trying to date guys from a dating app after not having a serious relationship for years. Then a chance meeting occurs and she meets the guy who might be everything Sydney has been looking for. Or is he?

The thing I love about Freida's books, they are usually always fast-paced and full of twists and turns. The Boyfriend was no different. It was full of suspense and had a great plot twist towards the end. This might be one of Freida's books yet and I can't wait to get a paperback copy of it once it releases so I can reread it closer to Halloween.

This is my second Freida McFadden book, and I was impressed. I couldn't put it down! It's fast-paced, engaging, and full of fun, unreliable narrators. Told across two points of view, one in the present and one in the past, you are on your toes the whole time trying to put the mystery together. I was surprised at the twist in the novel, which is hard to do for me anymore!

Freida McFadden has done it again! I always tell myself I'm going to catch onto the twist earlier in the next book and I can't quite get it. This book started off by sucking me right in and I couldn't stop turning the pages. The parallel story telling was great and I think that's what kept me from cluing in on the big twist before it was revealed. This was a fantastic book, kept me entertained and guessing the whole time. At one point I even found myself saying "Wow, I've already figured it out...she might be losing it." And BOY was I wrong!
