Y’all I haven’t read a @fmcfaddenauthor in a few months. I was so excited to get an ARC of this one from @poisonedpenpress and @netgalley, thank you 😍. So I think I’ve said it before my mom is probably the biggest fan of this author and has just about every book. I can’t wait for her to finish so we can have a discussion. I will admit no matter how hard I try with these books to guess the outcome I’m completely wrong. This book was no different. This one would have been a 5⭐️for me but the ending really messed me up. The books told from the POVs of Sydeny the female lead and Tom the male lead. She is mid thirties and feeling the pressure most women do about motherhood and marriage. So she turns to the world of online dating. The whole plot is so believable it’s crazy. I have tried my hand at online dating and after this read I’m so happy I always drop my location to a friend. Sydney’s life is turn red upside down when she finds the body of her friend and neighbor. This quickly turns into a what done it. I was cheering for Dr.Mc hottie to not be a weirdo. 50 percent in I felt like his past was def going to haunt him I just never knew his urges and love sickness would conquer. This was a wild ride. I’m looking forward to the teacher next.

Another creepy thriller from Freida McFadden. In this book a young woman is rescued from a bad relationship by a man who seems to the the perfect boyfriend.
As time goes on a woman is murdered who had been dating via social media. The book grows creepier as it begins to seem as if this perfect boyfriend may be a killer,.

A page turner

This book is the perfect example of why I love Freida McFadden. Several times I thought I had everything figured out, just to find out I was way off. Her twists kept me on my toes the whole book.

In true form Freida McFadden did it again! Once you think you figured it out! Nope! There’s that twist at the end…and you wonder what just happened! Loved The Boyfriend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Boyfriend was the suspense book I was looking for after reading a few too many preachy--almost pompous in tone--books lately. Not this one! Every time I thought I had it figured out, something else popped in and redirected my suspicions. There were red herrings aplenty in this book. While the characters were nowhere near lovable, they were absolutely interesting and, at times, surprising. A good whodunnit that McFadden's fans will be sure to enjoy. The varying viewpoints from the narrators (Tom as a teenager and Sydney in the present) added to the suspense of the story and also was the perfect device to create so many of the great twists and turns.

First let me say I am a huge Freida fan ! I really enjoyed this book as a whole, it definitely kept me guessing the whole time- in standard Freida fashion. I was t a huge fan of the ending. The very end seems like it just dropped off and then there was nothing. Overall I would give it a 4/5 stars nice work Freida !

I typically enjoy Freida McFadden's books for a quick read and a juicy thriller. But, this one missed the mark for me. There was too much back and forth and coincidences for me to believe it.
There is, of course, a big twist, but I found it to be unreal.
Sydney doesn't have any luck dating. After a breakup with Jake, a cop, Sydney is using a dating app, but Kevin turns out to be creepy. He keeps turning up. A mystery man, later identified as Tom, comes to her rescue, and she feels an instant attraction. However, it isn't until much later that they become involved. But, Tom (told in alternating timelines), has a dark past and a girlfriend he can't get over. Sydney wonders if Tom is hiding secrets that would put her in danger.

I know, I know! I just talked crap about Freida’s writing and how I didn’t want to read another one of her books for awhile. But..I forgot that I pre-ordered The Boyfriend, and I also received the arc from NetGalley. So, here we are :).

Miss Sydney! I need your attention please. Friend, you didn’t see the similiarities between your boyfriend, and your friend’s boyfriend? You didn’t think anything was strange about Tom?

I have to admit, I did not see the final twist coming. I was so focused on the crappy men! Definitely one of Freida’s better books!

I was so excited to get an early copy of this book! Freida is by far my most read author and her plots are so unpredictable. For the first time, I thought I had this figured out very early BUT of course I was wrong. At no point did I see the twists coming in this book so bravo to Freida for once again fooling us all.
Sydney is desperate for love. She is 34 and thinks she will never find the one. For this reason, she is pretty dumb when it comes to “letting go” some big red flags with guys.
This was written in 2 POVS-Sydney in the present and Tom in the past. I always enjoy dual POVs.
I absolutely could not stand Slug or Randy. Both gave me major creep vibes but of course i dont find out until later that those creep vibes were for the wrong reasons.

The storyline felt a bit rushed towards the end but overall still a good read.

Thanks for the early access read. Always looking forward to another book that makes me say “WHAAAAT”.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an advanced copy of this ebook. I absolutely loved it!

I am a huge Frieda McFadden fan and add all of her books to my TBR as soon as they are announced. A lot of times, I just jump into them blindly and don't read what it is about ahead of time. When I saw this available as an ARC, I never imagined I'd be approved for a copy and was pleasantly surprised when I was.

This is an easy to read book, but you will want to have plenty of time to dedicate to it - because once you start reading, you won't put it down. I finished the book in a weekend and was left wanting more. There were several times when I thought I had it all figured out, but I definitely didn't.

Characters were likable when they were supposed to be and you found yourself disliking them exactly when you were supposed to. The story flows well and the suspense is the perfect amount.

Freida McFadden has done it once again. The way she writes her books have me so confident that I've guessed the twists, I know who the bad people are and then she quickly humbles me and shows me how wrong I was. Nevertheless, her books are always a good time for me. They're funny, surprising, definitely twisty, and the endings always leave me wanting more. I love how this book bounced between present day with Sydney and then the past with Tom's point of view, normally I have a preference on which tense I prefer but I really didn't in this one, I enjoyed both equally. The characters were all well fleshed out, I was creeped out more than a few times while reading this but man, the last 30% of this book is what really hooked me. The twists, the betrayals, that ending! It was awesome and I'm very thankful Freida can write so fast so I don't have to wait too long for her next one.

Many thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for the gifted copy for my honest review!

The novel's captivating narrative held my attention. Its unexpected twists kept me engaged, speculating about future developments. The mystery surrounding the boyfriend's intentions keeps readers guessing, questioning whether he is a malefactor or genuinely kind-hearted.

Funny how reading often occurs little bursts – historicals, sci-fi, books set in Scotland, whatever. This time I’ve been reading dual storyline thrillers, one after the other. It doesn’t make for a good night’s sleep, does it? Still, they really are riveting reading, and this new title from physician-turned-writer McFadden (a pseudonym) hits all the marks. Sydney Shaw is tired of the single scene in New York City – her dates have been a series of one dud after another, a situation that puzzles and worries her grandchild-hungry mother. So when her friends Bonnie and Gretchen appear to be finding mates, she’s torn – happy for them, sure, but why can’t she find The One? Until Bonnie is brutally murdered. Sydney is devastated and decides to take a break from dating, until the killer is found Weeks go by, and when Sydney runs into a man who saved her from Kevin, one of her worst dates, she agrees to go out. In no time at all, she’s thrilled that she said yes – Tom is attentive, considerate, good-looking, and a doctor at a nearby hospital. And yet … if he is so perfect, why is he still single? Meanwhile, a backstory narrated by Tom begins to suggest that Sydney’s new love may not be as good a catch as she’s thinking. I was pretty sure I had this figured out a couple of times but nope – the final twist was a complete surprise to me. Domestic thrillers are a hot genre, and this is one that fans will devour. My thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for the advance reading copy provided digitally through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

The problem with Freida isn't her plots. Her plots are actually really good! The problem lies in the execution of said plots. This woman just cannot write. I mean, it's workaday prose. The words lead you through the story well enough, but the journey is long and it's drudgery. Imagine what the likes of Lisa Jewell could do with a plot like this!

Anyway, we are. yet again, faced with a FMC who s TSTL. She broke up with her tough-guy, workaholic cop BF (HEAVY FORESHADOWING) recently and has been hitting the apps, but meeting only frogs, no princes. At the end of one of her bad dates, she is almost attacked, but is saved by a {swoon} HANDSOME PRINCE OF A MAN to whom, of course, she feels an immediate attraction. He's just so dang handsome, you see! Could he be the McDreamy that her yoga buddy, recently murdered in her apartment building that FMC also lives in, was dating (and who seems like he's maybe the prime suspect in said murder except for no one knows his name or anything about him other than he is a hot doctor)? Naaaaahhhh I'm sure this is a different hot doctor! But, alas, dear reader, he goes off into the night, leaving FMC alone to encounter him serendipitously another day. Which, of course, she does, after fending off both her cop ex and the shoulda-swiped-left dude several times.

We have the usual red herrings, coached forward through the use of a second POV (sweet relief!) of "Tom," a teenage budding psychopath. He's smart and good looking, and he's in love with the police chief's pretty daughter. But he is covered by several clouds: his abusive dad, his missing female classmate who he was seen kissing prior to her disappearance, and his interest in arterial spray. Oh, and his weird, bug-eating friend, Slug.

Sigh. I don't know why I keep reading these. They seem to be getting worse. WHO ARE y'all who consider this a FIVE STAR book? And can I please make some better recs to your TBR?

This was a cracking read from Freida! This has all the features of a great thriller- the characters, the dark storyline, the gripping plot, and all the twists.
But this one felt different to me. I actually felt really stressed and worried for the characters through the entire book. Both timelines were equally packed with tension so there was no let up for the readers. I couldn't read quick enough.
This is sure to be another bestseller.

The boyfriend is a definte 5 star read and a treat so close to Halloween! Freida keeps us on our toes. I always think I know what is going to happen but I am always wrong and that is one of the reasons I love her books so much! You will be hooked from page one. This book reeled me in from the prolouge and that is how I knew it would be ANOTHER geat read from Freida!

My husband and I read/listened to The Boyfriend on a weekend trip which was a lot of fun to do together. We stopped it several times to discuss who we thought was "the bad guy". This is the type of book he likes so it was the perfect read for us. We had almost finished it when we reached our destination so when we went to bed we both popped in an earbud and finished listening. We love Frieda's twists at the end and did a pretty good job figuring it out! Sydney's story was a great psychological thriller!

If you've enjoyed other books by Freida McFadden you will love this one too!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.
