Holy WOW....Excellent book!!!! This may be Freida's best yet!! Got the ARC & absolutely flew through this.. i tried to slow down & savor this book, but it was impossible. SO GOOD!!!
Wow! Absolutely hands down my new favorite Freida book. My favorite Freida book has always been Never Lie, but this book takes the cake!! The twits, the turns, the excitement, the little humor here and there! LIKE, WHATTTTT, how does our Queen do this?!?! Phenomenal! FIRE!! LOVED IT!!!! This book was EVERYTHING!! Deserves more than 5 stars! The way McFadden captures you from the first page to the very last!!! I read this in 3 days because it was ADDICTING!!! I could NOT stop reading! Well done Mrs McFadden!
Wooow wow wow! I really enjoyed this book, it’s Freida McFadden so I knew it’d be great. I flew through this book, I really thought I had guessed the twists this time! The twist had me yelling at my kindle. The Main Character Sydney was my favorite but she could be so mindless at times. Tom was a likable character but too creepy for my liking. The Boyfriend comes together beautifully at the end, I’m glad to have received the ARC!
Freida never ceases to amaze me. Every book I think I know the twist and nope. Not even remotely see the twist coming.
A lovely story of an accountant in her mid thirties with a will and want to have a partner. Don’t mention her mother’s phone calls reminding her of all the former small town neighbors having babies and getting married.
Thank goodness Sydney meets an incredible guy, educated, kind, and has a wonderful career. Her best friend even thinks he’s an absolute catch. And so everyone lives happily ever after. The end. Or so they?
Gripping. The ride that The Boyfriend took me on was bumpy, but for good reason. Turns out there really are just *those kinds of people* (fictionally, I hope). And once again, what I was thinking would happen were way off the twists and turns of this book.
I’d like to thank Sourcebooks and Poisonedpenpress for my ARC because I’m so happy I didn’t have to wait for October to basically breeze through Freida’s latest work.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐+⭐
The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden is a well-written suspense thriller with a shocking twist! And I mean SHOCKING! I was blown away, like for real! Seriously, I was like "You are F-ing joking!"
Literally, you could suspect everyone but when the twist is dropped is like someone pushed you into an ice-cold ocean to draw!
The story is told in past time from Tom's point of view and present time from the Sydney's point of view. Somehow they feel like two separate stories until they come together and then you get excited. Your brain is starting to work overtime by generating possible developments but nop, don't even exhaust yourself! There is just one person who could guess that twist correctly - Freida McFadden! There is no chance on Earth that someone could guess this twist!
Tom is madly in love with Daisy and is willing to do anything to be with her. Daisy's best friend Alison hates him but when he manages to get a blessing from her dad, he feels the luckiest boy in town.
Sydney is desperate for her forever after! She is desperate but her prince charming just not coming! Until the night she was rescued by brave and gorgeous Knite... When she feels that life finally plays in her favour she realises that she could be in danger. Goodbye, peaceful night's sleep - hello anxiety!
I am madly excited about this one as I was left with massive satisfaction after closing this book!
Thank you, NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this chance to read this advance copy!
I’ve read a lot of books by this author and I was convinced I’d have the twist figured out. I was wrong. This book was gripping form the beginning, I couldn’t put it down as I felt I needed to continue to find out what happened next. The character development was really evident throughout the story and the twists really gave it an unpredictable ending. Definitely recommend this!
Freida McFadden does it again. This book was full of twists that you didn’t see coming. If you think you’ve figured it out, keep reading because you’re wrong. This book is one that will stay will you. I read it in a few hours. I couldn’t put it down.
Thank you Poisoned Pen Press and Freida for the awesome opportunity to receive this ARC for an honest review. The Boyfriend took me a bit to get into it because of the switching POVs/Timelines but then I was HOOKED! I tried so hard to think outside of the box and guess what was going on but of course you just simply can’t. Freida McFadden never misses with her twists! Can’t wait to receive my physical copy once it releases October 1st!
In Freida McFadden's newest novel, the twists and turns keep coming. In this newest novel, she doesn't disappoint.
The Boyfriend is another twisty thriller from Freida McFadden, and I have to say she got me again! Going into a book by Freida McFadden, I know to expect something unexpected, but I still didn't figure this one out, which only makes me like it more.
Single Sydney Shaw is looking for a boyfriend in a dating app but not having much luck when she runs into an attractive doctor, who sweeps her off her feet and seems a little too good to be true. Meanwhile, there is another timeline featuring Tom, his friend Slug and Daisy, who is Tom's crush. There are a few murders in their storyline, and the mood becomes more disturbing as the story moves along. The way the two narratives converge was a stunning twist to me. Well played, Freida McFadden.
I will recommend this to readers who like twisty domestic thrillers.
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
She's Looking for the Perfect Man. He's Looking for the Perfect Victim..... this is an absolute page-turner that grips you from the first chapter and doesn’t let go. Freida against the backdrop of New York’s fast-paced dating scene, this thriller masterfully blends romance with suspense, keeping readers on edge as Sydney Shaw navigates her quest for love—only to be ensnared in something far darker.
What sets this novel apart is its unique perspective. From the start, you get two point of views where you will make your own judgements... I did too! But nothing is as straightforward as it seems, and McFadden keeps you guessing, weaving in twists that keep you hooked until the final page. Having read her previous books, I will truly never be able to "predict" any of her endings!
The pacing is fast, making it an addictive read—I finished it in just one day! The story taps into deep fears about trust, love, and obsession, and the atmosphere McFadden creates feels eerily real. If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers that play with your expectations, this one is a must-read.
Perfect for fans of dark, twisty mysteries, it’s the kind of book that will leave you questioning everyone—right up until the shocking conclusion.
I enjoy Freida Mcfadden's books and the Boyfriend is no exception. I think The Housemaid is still my favorite McFadden title. The Boyfriend is very similar to her other works in that it is a contemporary, violent thriller with a big twist. I find that once I start a McFadden book I usually cannot stop reading it till the end. There is just something very addictive and accessible about Mcfadden's writing style.
I was lucky enough to receive a free advance reader's copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5! Thank you so much NetGalley and Frieda McFadden for an early copy of The Boyfriend! Freida girl you did it again! Your books will never disappoint. This book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I have read all of Frieda’s books and have never guessed the twist, and for this entire book I was CONVINCED I finally guessed the plot twist for the first time and boy was I wrong!
Freida has done it again. Just when I think I know what’s happening or who did it. I am completely wrong. This book had me guessing from the very beginning. And until the end I didn’t have a clue. Books like this is why I love thrillers. Thanks for the chance to read this before it’s officially published!
5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I love when two worlds collide in the most twisty way possible. You can never trust anyone. And you will most definitely not know who it killed who. Ever. Have fun with this one, because I did!
I did not see that coming. McFadden's books are always so entertaining, twisty, and intriguing. This plot was great, and the writing was quick paced.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought I had it figured it out but boy was I wrong. Like other Freida books it was fast paced and I couldn’t put it down until I was done. My least favorite part? I now don’t have any Freida books left to read.
Frieda McFadden’s The Boyfriend is, without a doubt, her most captivating and intense novel yet. From the very first page, I was hooked—unable to put it down as the layers of suspense and psychological tension slowly unraveled. McFadden has perfected the art of leading you in one direction, making you believe you’ve uncovered the truth, only to blindside you with an unexpected twist. Just when I thought I had figured out the real killer, McFadden masterfully threw me off course, leaving me stunned.
The characters are brilliantly crafted, and the plot is a rollercoaster of emotions, from heart-pounding moments to subtle, chilling revelations. The Boyfriend isn’t just a thriller—it’s a mind game. McFadden pulls you in deep, only to flip the script when you least expect it. If you’re looking for a page-turner that will keep you guessing until the very end, this book is it. Absolutely phenomenal!
Five stars, without a doubt
Wow! Just WOW! The first sentence of The Boyfriend hooked me. But the LAST sentence of the Prologue? (which was only 2 pages long) Well, that sentence grabbed ahold of me, slapped handcuffs on me, and refused to let me put this book down!
As I was reading it, I had multiple theories running through my brain about how The Boyfriend would end. About 2/3 of the way through, I was just positive I had it all figured out. But nope, I wasn't even close! The twist at the end was a complete surprise to me, and this is one of the reasons why I love Freida McFadden books so much! The way she keeps her readers guessing and then ties things together out of nowhere makes for enjoyable reading.
A true page-turner from start to finish....I loved The Boyfriend!!!
Thank you to Freida McFadden, Poisoned Pen Press, and Sourcebooks for providing me with an Advanced Reader Copy in an exchange for my honest opinion!
