Another great Freida McFadden read! The Boyfriend is a fast-paced, fun, thriller. I kept going back and forth as to who I thought the culprit was, but I was wrong about all of them, until the last dinner! I was annoyed at Sydney’s complete unawareness of all the red flags that kept popping up, or that when they WERE seen, she talked herself out of doing something about it. But, that’s normal in a lot of thrillers and horror novels, so I just needed to remind myself of that. I definitely had a love/hate relationship with Tom. He was super shady, but also super sweet to Sydney, and we all kinda push that aside when we’re in the beginning of a new relationship. A great story - Definitely check it out.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

FREDIA. friggen. MCFADDEN.

I can not get over this book! Definitely a five star read to say the least!

I have to say in typical Freida fashion I honestly did not expect the twists that this book took. I honestly tried to think of the craziest scenario of what would / could have happened , but I never would have guessed this. As all her books do, they keep you grabbed from the beginning to the end - definite page turners!

I am so thankful to have gotten this as an ARC. I want to thank all those involved!

I I was so excited to be able to read this early and glad i got to. Freida is my favorite author, this book was beyond amazing. It kept me on edge and i kept wanting to read it. I thought i had it figure out toward the end i was wrong but than i kinda figure who it may be but i didn't think it was that person. Trying not to give out spoilers here. But i think maybe could be a book 2 if there was ever to be one. The book is amazing and i wasn't disappointed think its my fav one so far

Thank you Poison Pen/NetGalley for a digital ARC of this book!

Without spoilers, all I can say is HOLY CRAP. The audible GASP at the twist had my husband asking me if I was OK! I thought I had it figured out, but let me tell you I did not!

Sydney is extremely relatable on so many levels. She's a bit of a loaner, career woman, a few friends. I think a lot of 30-somethings can relate to her. I loved her as a character, though I did have a few times I wanted to slap her phone away.

If you don't have this one on your pre-orders list, trust me and DO IT.

Freida McFadden has done it again! You won’t want to put down her newest hit.

Sydney Shaw has had unbearably bad luck with dating, and all she really wants is a man to settle down with. She’s almost 35 after all. But, after another failed date, shes starting to think she’ll spend her life alone. But, when Sydney’s best friend, Bonnie, is brutally murdered, dating is the furthest thing from her mind. All she wants to do is find out who killed her friend, but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen.

With Bonnie’s case growing cold, and Sydney finding herself increasingly more lonely, she decides to put herself back out there. Then, by a stroke of luck, she meets Tom. And Tom is perfect. But, as time goes on, Sydney realizes something isn’t quite right with Tom. Has Sydney met her match or is there something more sinister behind Tom’s motives?

This book was fantastic!

I absolutely loved the main character, Sydney. She was funny at times and so extremely relatable. I was rooting for her throughout the whole book. It was also refreshing to have a main character who wasn’t afraid to speak up for herself. I love to see it.

Having the setting be New York City was a fantastic choice. I love reading thrillers that are set in a big city. It just puts you slightly more on edge. You never know who’s watching or where people are. It was really great!

I really enjoyed the dual perspective and timelines. I think that it all tied into each other super well. I was second guessing everything in Tom’s perspective. I really enjoyed reading about him just as much as I liked Sydney.

The TWIST?!?!? What the heck was that?!?!? I did start to guess toward the end, but I didn’t get it until the last second, so well done Freida!!!

Highly recommend!!

Another 5 star read from Freida McFadden! Do not pass this book up. It kept me guessing the entire time. I always think I have the ending figured out, but I never do. The characters were well developed, the plot was suspenseful and never boring and the ending tied everything together in the best possible way. I love Freida’s writing style and will continue reading any book she writes. She never disappoints! I am so grateful to have been an ARC reader for this book.

"Wow! Freida has done it again! I couldn't put this book down. If you're looking for a story that keeps you thinking and guessing until the very end, THIS IS IT! I always think I have her plots figured out, but she surprises me every time. I also appreciate how Freida keeps the love scenes and language relatively PG. The Boyfriend is the full package—capturing the realities of dating and love in your thirties, combined with a gripping murder mystery. Highly recommended!"

And here we have it folks, Freida has done it again! Trust me, you will think you have it all figured out(numerous times at that), only to find out that you thought wrong. Never fails to amaze her readers with these phenomenal plots and twists. This was definitely a five star read for me! I can also see more in Sydney's future so I'm hoping we get a second book!

I did not expect the twist of this book. As always, Freida has done it again. I thought I knew who was the boyfriend the book is talking about but there was a twist about it which I did not see it coming. I can't even put it down and stop reading it until I saw myself finishing it late at night. I hope Freida don't stop writing books but also hoping there is a pause from time to time because my wallet cannot keep up. HAHAHA

The Boyfriend was a great book! Freida always has me on my toes and thinking I know what’s coming. I fall for it every time. I can’t wait to add this title to my classroom library and share with my students. We love discussing all the twists and what we think is going to happen next! This book is a MUST read! It’s a quick and easy read that everyone can enjoy!

I really enjoyed the two time periods this book is told in, the early years and the current. The parallels made guessing who did it all the more challenging. Just when I thought I had it figured out, something changed. I did find the MC gullibility to be a little unrealistic at points though, even so this may be one of my favorite Freida McFadden books!

I had the pleasure of reading The Boyfriend as an ARC. All I can say is FEIDA HAS DONE IT AGAIN!! This book grabbed me from the very first page and kept me entertained THE WHOLE TIME! I really connected with the main character and felt for her at times. The twist like always MADE MY HEAD SPIN! My jaw was on the floor! (Of course it IS Freida we’re talking about) If you don’t already have this on preorder GO DO IT NOW! This is not one you want to miss! 5 ⭐️

This one will keep you up and second guessing until the very end. A thriller mixed with some romance, Frieda did it again. If you liked Never Lie - you will love this one!

Thank you NetGalley, Poisoned Pen, and Mandy Chahal for the eARC! I was so excited to read this.

Frieda never disappoints. I spent the entire novel truly unsure of who did what, and when it was revealed, my jaw DROPPED. every chapter revealed a little more and more, and the dual timeline was a nice addition to the details. I was absolutely shook when everything came together. You literally cannot trust anyone in her books. Frieda is always so good at twists and turns and keeping you on your toes. This book had a good plot, some good humor, and good characters. Everything you think, is always a lie with her books. Nothing is as it seems, and once again, Frieda knocked it out of the park.

I loved this book. The characters and storyline gave real situations and suspense in the way you’d expect. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the characters within. The plot twists were great and another book for the shelf. Blessed to have the chance for an early read on this one. I already have a signed copy on the way for my collection. Thanks again Freida for your wonderful work. You do not disappoint. ❤️

Freida did it again! This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and in the best way possible. The main character was very easy to relate with, which makes the book flow so well. And I thought I had the plot twist figured out (because we KNOW she’s the queen of plot twists) but boyyy was I WRONG! When I say my jaw dropped… it dropped! I do wish there was a little bit more of an explanation to a certain character leaving after the plot twist but that’s my only “negative” thing about this book. Love love!
