WOW!!! This book is an eyeopener to all who think they've read everything about the murder of Emmett Till - even the documentary on PBS – The Murder of Emmett Till: American Experience – did not scratch the surface. At times this book was bogged down due to a lot of family histories presented, but Wright Thompson nails more than makes up for it in his research and interviews. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and it deserves to be on the NY Times Bestsellers List!

A haunting and horrific account of the events surrounding the brutal beating and murder of Emmett Till in Money, Mississippi that no one in Mississippi wants to talk about. Thompson illuminates the secrets of the people involved and what really took place in the barn where it happened. This is an extremely well-written and enlightening work depicting a dark side of American history.

This book. It's a hard read, and a really important one. The story of Emmett Till is one that society still needs to grapple with, and Thompson's quest to root it in the place it happened is also necessary. Highly recommended.
