Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.
What a great whoodunnit. I loved the main character and did not want to put it down.
Such a brilliant thriller! I was not expecting it to be this dark and twisted based on the bright color art. But I really enjoyed it. Great evening read.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this novel. The plot has great flow. I will be recommending to my readers.
Katy Brent, author of How to Kill Men and Get Away With It has written another fabulously inventive, funny murder mystery thriller, in The Murder After The Night Before. Brent has a unique sense of humor but is able to balance that with wonderful elements of other ingredients which make the story filled with fun sleuthing, compromising situations...you'll see...and of course the chase of a killer.
When Molly Monroe wakes up in her apartment from a very heavy night of drinking and discovers a man sleeping next to her, she's not sure how to react. Did they? Who is he? Where did she go? And she knows she's going to be sick!
All she remembers is having a bit of a tiff with her roommate and best friend Posey and something about meeting up later for a drink after Molly attended her annual work holiday party.
But what awaits Molly as she tries to remember what happened, is something she could never, ever have imagined. Quite frankly, she doesn't have to remember as it seems to have been documented and is all over the internet! And to make matters worse, it's so bad she may be out of a job!
As Molly tries to find out about the night before, her roommate Posey seems to be MIA. Not answering texts, not at work. This is not Posey's MO. But the day gets only gets worse when she discovers her best friend is dead!
Although the police think Posey's death was a tragic accident, something inside Molly feels as if they are wrong. They won't listen to her. She thinks her death had something to do with a story she was covering. So, Molly takes it upon herself to begin looking into the who, what, how and why of Posey's last investigation. Big mistake?
As it turns out, there is way more to Posey than Molly ever imagined and now she has gotten herself mixed up in something she is sure is going to get her killed.
The book is a sharply plotted, funny, and the ending staggeringly astounding as we begin the journey of The Murder After The Night Before.

What a great book! The mystery is great and I loved the main character. This book will keep readers guessing whodunit until the very end. Highly recommend!
Molly Monroe is having the worst day in the history of worst days. She wakes up after an office party with a massive hangover and no recollection of the night before, Oh, and there's also a strange man in her bed. She gets to work only to find that she's trending on social media and not in a good way. The cherry on the sundae of horrific days is finding her roommate dead in their apartment. So, yeah, things are not going well for Molly.
Molly starts off as an irresponsible, immature, highly unlikable character. Through Katy Brent's narrative, we learn about the baggage Molly carries which explains her dangerous behaviors. We see Molly transform into a tenacious investigator determined to uncover the truth about her friend's death. There is no shortage of suspects as Molly learns that she didn't know her friend quite as well as she thought she did. That's the mystery part of this book, but the mystery is only the backdrop against which the rest of the story is told.
Thanks to Harper 360 and Katy Brent for the chance to read ‘The Murder After the Night Before’! Honestly, this was a bit darker than I expected! Which is never a bad thing for me, but wow did Molly have a bad day! It just kept getting worse. As a character, Molly is kind of unlikeable and definitely has an unresolved drinking issue. It was also hard to believe how she interacted with some of the characters. I kept wanting to shake the book in an attempt to shake some sense into her.
It was an interesting, fast-paced book that encompassed many themes and emotions. The main theme was Molly goes viral for performing oral sex in public, and while she was dealing with the fallout from that she discovered her best friend dead. It was quite a ride and a whodunnit.
Some of the scenes felt rushed and improbable, but I still enjoyed the read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.25 stars
Come for the murder mystery, stay for professional wrestling and the pitch-perfect take on how society treats women (especially on social media). I was not ready for the latter when I picked up The Murder After the Night Before, but this book rocked me to my core. And now I'm going through Katy Brent's back catalog. There are parts of this book that are quite triggering but the topic are handled masterfully. Bravo!
Ever feel like your life can't get worse, and then it does? Well that is Molly's story. Although, I can say I have never been even close to being in her shoes.
After what was supposed to be a fun night out, things went terribly wrong. From not remembering anything about the night, to her phone being dead, to a viral video, and then not being able to get ahold of her flatmate/best friend....who turns out to be dead in their flat....
Molly goes into full on investigation mode because she does not believe that Posey accidentally drank too much and drowned. She starts to uncover all the secrets, which helps her forget about the video in the mean time.
Really light easy read, perfect for the beach or pool side.
Thank you NetGalley and HQ Digital for my E-ARC.
You’ve seen The Hangover, right? Well, at bare minimum, you probably know the premise, waking up after a crazy drunken night and trying the piece the bits from the night before together. That’s what this is. Except it’s also an intriguing murder mystery with strong women. It’s also a statement on the potential toxicity of the social media obsessed world we live in. I just found this book to be so entertaining. There’s laugh-out-loud parts, romance, women supporting women, mystery, fear — all of it. Highly recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins, and Katy Brent. Can’t wait to read more by this author.
The cover and the description sucked me into this book.
"Something bad happened last night. My best friend Posey is dead. The police think it was a tragic accident. I know she was murdered.
I’ve woken up with the hangover from hell, a stranger in my bed, and I’ve gone viral for the worst reasons.
There’s only one thing stopping me from dying of shame. I need to find a killer.
But after last night, I can’t remember a thing…"
I'm mixed on this one. I loved some of the characters. I hated some of their choices. I partially predicted the twist. I HATED THE END.
A journalist struggles to remember a hazy night that ended with her best friend dead and a viral video of her dominating social media. It's well written and entertaining.
I honestly loved this book until I got to the very end. It almost killed all the love for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper360 for the eARC.
I never thought I would describe a book about someone looking into their BFFs murder as fun, but here we are. Katy Brent has written a book that really hooks you and makes you laugh and also makes you want to figure out WTF is going on. So good.
This was a really solid mystery. I had no idea how it was going to end, and on the last few pages I actually gasped. Very well written!
Molly is going viral for a NSFW moment, her best friend is dead, and she doesn’t remember anything from the night before and that’s just in the first chapter.
This was a fun, quirky, and cozy mystery. Giving this one 4 ⭐️’s. Felt there were too many coincidences throughout the novel but I did not see that ending coming! Read this one in a day!

Such a fun and thrilling book. This made me laugh out loud. Basically our main character wakes up with a terrible hangover and can’t remember anything about the night before. It turns out her best friend was murdered and the police don’t suspect any foul play, but she does. So she tries to find out who murdered her friend and why.

🌟🌟🌟 💫 (3.5)
The Murder After the night before is definitely an easily digestible read.
We are following Molly who after a very drunk night out with her colleagues, wakes up the morning with no recollection of the night before.
The characters are well developed and relatable, each with their own secrets and motivations that add depth to the story. Our main character Molly is a hot mess, I couldn’t help but love her character, she feels real because of her flaws and her acknowledgement of them.
The pacing is spot-on, maintaining a perfect balance between suspense and revelation. Even when the book was over 90% through, my jaw was still dropping at the twists and turns. The narrative’s blend of mystery, tension, and a touch of dark humour ensures a gripping read that is hard to put down.
Overall, The Murder after the Night Before is a thrilling read that mystery and thriller enthusiasts will thoroughly enjoy. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a well crafted and engrossing story.
This book is a combination of chick lit and mystery. Molly is a sweet young woman who makes a series of bad decisions, culminating in a very explicit sex video which has just gone viral. Katy Brent does a great job of making the reader feel the shame and humiliation that must go along with that experience. Molly desperately wants to talk to her roommate and best friend, Posey, but they can't manage to connect. Then Molly steps into Posey's room and finds her dead in the bath. Molly doesn't believe it was an accident and she's determined to prove it. Several different suspects present themselves keeping the reader going back and forth with the "Did he/didn't he?" The solution to Posey's murder is very believable and makes a satisfactory ending to the book. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my honest review.
I was immediately impressed with this book because a lot happened right off the bat. It did plateau for a bit but overall it was a good book.
Since reading Katy Brent's first book and absolutely loving it, I couldn't wait to read this one. I enjoyed it a lot, I love the sense of humor that goes along with such serious subject matter. I thought this was a pretty good mystery, I didn't figure it out at all. Love the characters (Poor Molly) and I love this author!
