This is a fascinating story encompassing AI, chatbots, and Bitcoin, that I found impossible to stop reading, until the last page was turned. I recommend not starting it late in the day if you plan to get some sleep.
Jason Foster had searched for the mythical, most likely fictitious, Satoshi eggs for over a decade. When he found it a couple weeks earlier, he’s been fearful for his life. Although it doesn’t look like much more than a faded, plastic Easter egg, inside the USB drive has those hunting for treasures frantic to find it.
Upon the death of Jason in what appears to be an innocent car accident during heavy fog, his widow, Katrina, is obsessed with chatbots, which combining all former messages and information about Jason, gives her the impression she is still in communication with him using her phone. What a surprise when the Jason-like voice announces “I think I was murdered.”
Katrina, an attorney, and her best friend, Liz, the Chief Technology Officer, work at Talk, Inc., a tech company in Palo Alto, with a unique AI app. The CEO of the company, who also was the boyfriend of Liz, appears to have vanished. He’s not been heard from nor is he responding to any phone calls. The FBI is now looking into their business dealings.
This is a fast-paced, action-packed story that includes many loveable and relatable characters, and some that left me with questions about their true character. It seems Jason left some clues for Katrina to find that includes the code for $30 million dollars of Bitcoin.
There are many unexpected twists and turns to this captivating story. I could have never guessed the shocking conclusion of this most fascinating story.
Colleen Coble has been one of my favorite authors for years, however, her writing partnership with Rick Acker has increased my love of suspense, which I’ve found to be at it’s very best, written by these two.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Fascinating AI Bot Chatbox that's compiled of a deceased persons online past presence had me continuously interested. It has suspense and murder along with some action packed adventures in the second half of this amazing story. It's a slow burn but I did enjoy the ride of these amazing mix of characters.
Wow Colleen Cable and Rick Acker what a team. They are really writing future bestsellers in my opinion. I think I was Murdered is a very thought provoking suspense about AI and greed and grief. I enjoyed reading about Norwegian food and customs. The characters were as always well thought out and pulled you into their lives and got you hooked on the roller coaster ride. You could relate to Katrinas grief over losing her husband Jason and her grandmother, but then to discover that he was probably murdered over a mysterious egg worth a fortune. I never knew some of the things in this book were even possible. Katrina and Sebs story was heartwarming and a bit sad. They pulled you through the twists and turns to the exciting and final satisfying page. I even went on the website she provided and watched the goats on the roof!! I want to thank Netgalley and Thomas Nelson publishing company for the advanced copy for my honest opinion.
This was really interesting and different. I really enjoyed reading it. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC!
I struggle with thrillers, I truly do. The premises always sound so intriguing, but rarely do I find the endings satisfying. Please keep this bias in mind for the rest of the review and take it with a healthy grain of salt if you love the genre.
I Think I Was Murdered piqued my interest immediately. The title and the blurb sounded fascinating and fresh. A plot involving exciting technology? Awesome. A mysterious death? Cool. Second-chance romance? Sign me up.
Despite knowing that thrillers usually let me down, I love mysteries and romance, so I thought this one would be okay. And it's not like I hated it; there were good elements. However, ultimately the twists and turns of the plot left me feeling like I was reading the novelization of a soap opera. It was a little much.
I liked Seb, though, and Katrina was well-written. I didn't feel like they had much chemistry, but I'm inclined to give the authors a break on this. Writing a second-chance love story when one of the characters is a widow wading through grief must be tough. Adding in that this was a clean romance and the characters are fairly religious and suddenly I understand why I wasn't overwhelmed by their chemistry. I was still happy to see them end up together. The epilogue was satisfying. I wouldn't highly recommend it, but I don't regret reading it and am grateful for the opportunity.
This book was unlike anything I’ve ever read. Technology can be scary. It was an interesting read and fans of Colleen won’t be surprised that it was really well written.
The story flowed well and the characters were well developed. I recommend this book and look forward to more from this author.
****Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review****
This was a fast-paced techno thriller. The AI bot as a central character made for an interesting read, and there was a plot twist I never saw coming. Anyone who enjoys a good mystery with a modern spin will love this. Thanks so much for letting me read in advance!
I Think I Was Murdered by Colleen Coble; Rick Acker. Katrina and Seb along with an AI bot, as integral character, are involved in thus fast paced mystery. The story revolves around a mysterious egg and its pursuit by those who will do anything for it. The story features an unexpected twist, a clean read, and a satisfying conclusion.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
Wow! This one is different, but good!! I never even knew some of the things in this story were possible, and it's a little scary! Fast paced, a little creepy, and informative.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I THINK I WAS MURDERED by COLLEEN COBLE and RICK ACKER is a real page turner that will keep you guessing right to the end. There is mystery, romance, betrayal, adventure, murder and mayhem,; in facr everything you expect in a good thriller, plus much more, with the addition of a chatbot, a Chinese gang, bitcoin and a valuable egg.
When this chatbot uses her late husband’s voice to tell Katrina he thinks he is murdered, her already disturbed life takes another direction and gets really dangerous. With Seb, someone she looked down on and treated badly when they were young, and her best friend Liv, she sets off to find out what really happened.
The story is told against the background of a friendly town with a Norwegian flavour, and eateries with good food…….
Family dynamics and the characters’ emotions are explored…….
I do not want to tell you any more for fear of spoiling your read.
I highly recommend this exciting and well written novel to anyone who enjoys this genre.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
