In DETECTIVE DUCK: THE CASE OF THE MISSING TADPOLE, when Tad the tadpole goes missing, Detective Duck Willow leads the charge to find him. To add to the mystery, as they search for Tad, the community’s search party uncovers a threat to the pond from a drainage pipe spewing brown liquid and causing algae to bloom in the pond.
The short chapters and easy to follow clues combined with humor infused throughout make this series a great introduction to the mystery genre for young readers. Fabulous illustrations by Dan Santat bring the vibrant pond community to life. The scientific and environmental stewardship components are clear here, but don’t overpower the story. Readers will be satisfied and entertained.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sharing an eARC of the book with me.
I got the ARC, and I was so excited. I love ducks and children's books(since I work at a book store), but I didn't care for this at all. There was too much going on all at once, I know it's fictional, but if I got confused, I feel like some kids would too. I love the concept and the art, w,but I felt the storyline wasn't at the top of its game like it could have been.
This book was super cute, but MUCH longer than I anticipated. We loved all the little side characters throughout, and the kids thought their personalities were very funny!
I love the writing style that Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver use in this book. The sentences are complex which is great for a young reader to improve their literacy. I love that the writing isn't dumbed down for kids. It is beautifully written with lots of descriptions. Also, as with all Henry Winkler books, there is a lot of humor in the storytelling. I can't wait to use this book in my third grade classroom!
These books are so cute and funny! I love Willow the detective duck and all the other quirky characters. I also love the illustrations that go with it. They are so perfect and exactly what you picture when you read these characters.
My kids love these and I know other kids will as well. Great news installment in the series.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
