Come back to the Red Door Inn to catch up with all your favorite characters from past stories -- and if you're new here, you get to meet everyone! (You don't need to have read the others to love this book, but will enjoy getting a glimpse into the current lives of previous protagonists if you have.) We have a free spirit who is struggling to get grounded and a very structured and routine guy who could use a bit of breaking out of his shell. They work well together, though, and learn quite a bit about life and love over this holiday season. There are serious moments, but overall it's a cozy Christmas read, perfect for curling up with in front of the fireplace.

This was an adorable Christmas romance that also includes an MMC with grinch-like tendencies and a versatile and lovable FMC. Throw in a meddlesome aunt and a cozy winter atmosphere, this is a great book to settle next to the fireplace with! Definitely give this one a read!

This was a perfect Christmas romance about a grumpy numbers guy who avoids Christmas and is forced to spend time at the Red Door Inn with creative Whitney and the three adorable children she's watching. He gets pulled into spending time with them and eating the delicious food she prepares and realizes what he's been missing. His heart was broken by his fiance and he's focused on nothing but work since but he starts to hope that maybe his life can have more. I liked that Daniel isn't the usual perfect hero as he seems to be a little bit autistic and has a hard time reading social cues. His ex-fiance made him doubt himself even more and it doesn't help that Whitney fights her feelings since she's supposed to be helping match him with Ruby, the businesswoman negotiating to buy his aunt's store. She also needs the money for tuition that Aretha agreed to pay her for helping and she wants to prove to her parents that she can finish something as she's had trouble following through on things. Which will win out, her feelings or her goal? Will Daniel find out about the matchmaking plot? There's a subtle faith message as Daniel attends a rehearsal for the Christmas pageant and is reminded of God's love and presence. The romance was very sweet and it was great to catch up with prior characters in the series and meet their children! I highly recommend this sweet Christmas story!

Meddling With Mistletoe takes fans of Liz Johnson back to the Red Door Inn for rom-com antics, the joys of the Christmas season and all it entails, and for a story of two strangers finding friendship and a little romance in unlikely circumstances. If you’ve never visited the Red Door Inn or Prince Edward Island in Liz’s other stories, you are in for a treat discovering the steadfast and vibrant characters who make up this story world. If you’re a returning traveler, you will be joyous to revisit characters like Marie and Seth, Aretha Franklin and Jack, and a new generation of kids to like — especially precocious Julia May who steals a few scenes in this story with her funny holiday and personal observations.

The romance has the right balance of complexity, twinkling lights, friendship, and pies. Daniel is a new beta hero to add to my bespectacled book boyfriend list with so much kindness behind a sometimes-stoic exterior. My favorite thing about his romance with Whitney is how they both see each other’s integrity and heart, even in the tentative first parts of their friendship. The way Whitney excels at pastry but holds a little uncertainty about her future and dreams is smartly portrayed and encouraged — never judged — by Daniel, which makes their dynamic all the more appreciated.

My thank Revell Publishing and the Revell Reads program for the review copy. This is my honest review.

This was a sweet Christmas story that reminds us we are our own worst critic.

Whitney is trying to make enough money to reserve her spot at culinary school by baking pies and selling them at the farmer's market. It seems like a good plan until her oven breaks. She asks the owner of the Red Door Inn if she can use their kitchen. The Inn is usually closed this time of year, The owner Marie tells Whitney that they actially have two guests this year, but they make a deal. Whitney will help watch Marie's three children and cook breakfast for the guests in exchange for use of the Inn's kitchen,

Daniel and Ruby are the Inn's guest. They are in town for the sale of Aretha's antique business. Daniel is Aretha's finance-whiz nephew and Ruby is representing the company purchasing the business.

Aretha is eager to see her nephew in a relationship after his last one ended so badly. She seizes on Daniel and Ruby both being single and having to work together. She is so determined that she steamrolls Whitney into helping matchmake. Whitney wants nothing to do with it, but when Aretha offers her financial assistance toward culinary school, she reluctantly agrees.

As Aretha pushes Ruby and Daniel together, he ends up spending more time with Whitney than Ruby. Whitney is good for Daniel's all-business and no play demeanor. When Whitney realizes that Daniel is not interested in Ruby, but in her, she knows she needs to let him know what his aunt asked her to do. It would be horrible for him to find out from someone else first...

Read Meddling with Mistletoe to find out the rest of Whitney and Daniel's story. If you like Christmas romances with lots of winter atmosphere and likable main characters, this one is for you!

Thank you to NetGalley and Revell for a chance to read an advance copy in exchange for my honest review. 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars.

Desperation can make people do some remarkably bad decisions, and Whitney is desperate. She has flaked out one too many times for her parents to continue supporting her. Now she has to come up with the money to go to culinary school on her own; she is running out of time and all her hard work seems to lead only to more desperation. This creates an exciting opportunity for her friend, Aretha, who needs some help finagling her nephew into a romance that will turn his frown upside down. It is a tricky situation, but Aretha’s promise to fund the rest of her culinary school tuition is more than Whitney can afford to turn down right now. The big problem? The woman Aretha has chosen for Daniel is not the one who has fallen for him. Nor he for her. The bigger problem, however, is the fallout from the unraveling of their intricate plan to meddle with mistletoe. Now, both Whitney and Daniel must decide which future they will choose and who they truly want to be when the dust settles. Liz Johnson takes us back to the Red Door Inn on beautiful Prince Edward Island in the heart of the winter season to get to the heart of the mess Aretha has made by meddling in matchmaking. This sweet heat romance begs a bit of joy from the kitchen; I think it pairs well with a cup of coffee and a slice of pie, flannel pajamas, and a cozy blanket by the fire.

I loved this book so much. It was like getting a hug. It reminded me of what it feels like when watching a Hallmark movie - simple and lovely. I enjoyed these characters and will be going back to read the other stories in this series. This was the first book from this author for me, but it won't be my last.

Now that’s what I call a ‘Christmas book’! A good opening set the scene for an enjoyable story, a pleasure to read with likeable characters & an interesting plot. It makes a welcome change between the heavier-themed books, & we could all do with a lighter one now & then.
NB Do read the Acknowledgements, they’re about the best part of the book - (& the rest was good...)

I thought this was a cute Christmas story and I loved the characters. I loved how Whitney was able to help Daniel deal with his past hurt and learn to smile again. I loved how Daniel was able to help Whitney figure out what her dream really is and to know that she can do hard things. I also liked seeing them fall in love as they spent time with each other. I also liked how the matchmaking by Daniel’s aunt went awry but it all worked out in the end by the right people ending up with each other. I really enjoyed this story and would highly recommend it.

Return to Prince Edward Island at Christmas time with Liz Johnson with Meddling with Mistletoe. What do you get when you mix a baker in need of an oven, who finds in in the form of an Inn as long as she cooks breakfast for the inn and a single man with a nosy aunt? You get a matchmaking scheme at Christmas. This sweet novella is just the thing to get into Christmas spirit. It was also nice to visit old Prince Edward Island favorites, but also to meet new favorite characters in Whitney and Daniel. I do recommend that you read both the Prince Edward Island Dreams series and the Prince Edward Island Shores series before this novella. I can’t wait to read this one again in December.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. And she was definitely in the wrong Dickens story.”

I have three words for you when it comes to Liz Johnson’s new Christmas romance, Meddling with Mistletoe – I LOVED IT. Okay one more word – MISTLETOE. And when you take that word and combine with KISS, well scoop me up from the floor because WOW. I’m still fanning… and apparently still adding words to this review.

But I can’t help myself because, oh my stars, this fairly quick (but not too quick) read is so much fun! I grinned a lot, I chuckled some too, and I even got a little misty-eyed toward the end. Johnson’s writing voice is so witty here – definitely my kind of humor – and the romance is super swoony with some toecurling kisses and emotional heart-tugs. And the characters! I loved being back at the Red Door Inn with familiar and beloved friends such as Jack & Aretha (though I side-eyed her a few times in this one) and Marie & Seth and their absolutely adorable kids (especially Julia Mae). But I also loved loved loved Daniel and Whitney and their opposites-attract dynamics and gosh they made me smile. Even when I was frustrated with these two, I understood why they reacted the way they did based on their backstories and well-drawn layers. I adored Julia Mae & Daniel’s interactions too, and I thought the author did such a fabulous job of making them simultaneously humorous and meaningful.

Bottom Line: Bring your pie cravings, a mug of your fave winter beverage, a quirky turkey toque, a cozy quilt, and a fan when you settle in to read Meddling with Mistletoe by Liz Johnson! This delightful Christmas romance has it all – fun humor, precocious kids, yummy food, a little drama, a sweet message of faith and purpose, multi-dimensional characters, all the festive vibes, and a swoonilicious romance! I so enjoyed reading this book (in case you couldn’t tell) and it’s going on my shortlist of Christmas stories that I recommend ad nauseam. Do yourself a Christmas favor and grab Meddling with Mistletoe ASAP!

Meddling with Mistletoe
Liz Johnson
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Whitney Garrett is selling homemade pies to pay her tuition to culinary school. When a broken oven threatens her plans, Whitney asks to borrow the kitchen at the Red Door Inn to keep up with her orders. In exchange for use of the oven, Whitney agrees to prepare meals for guests of the inn.
While there, Whitney gets drawn into a matchmaking scheme devised by a well meaning aunt to set up her nephew, Daniel, and a visiting business woman, Ruby. However, the more Whitney learns about Daniel, the more she wonders if Ruby is his perfect match after all.

This was a sweet holiday story with plenty of nostalgic activities interspersed from sled riding to taking a stroll through town to see the Christmas lights. The stage was set for romantic moments perfect for falling in love and we can’t forget to mention the mistletoe! While there was a church Christmas production and a manger scene, there wasn’t much in the way of spiritual content. However, one truth was definitely prevalent, accepting who God created us to be versus comparing ourselves to others. Johnson did a wonderful job of celebrating the uniqueness of each person created in the image of God and embracing our individuality for His glory.

The funny thing is that hearing your laugh reminded me that I hadn’t heard my own in a really long time. You helped me find it again. And I will never forget that. ~Daniel to Whitney page 245

This is such a cute book that has a lot of depth to it & not just a fluffy feel-good romance. Though truth be told, it does have a bit of that too!

Liz Johnson is one of those authors that tends to make fiction real for me in the way she writes, from feeling like her characters are some I wished I could meet, to how the story plays out on the pages. I think I loved Whitney and Daniel from the get-go. In spite of the meddling of his Aunt Aretha, and all mishaps and missteps, I loved seeing how Johnson got these two opposite people together. I feel they communicated well and complemented each other in the end. I loved seeing Daniel become more relaxed & saw his hidden humor come through and I loved how he encouraged Whitney and made her feel like her dreams & goals were important. Their interactions were fun to watch & their banter made me laugh more than once.

I have not read the Red Door Inn series, but most certainly will after this! I loved seeing the interplay between all the characters and how they made up a community that helped each other. This story was a hit for me and I hope other readers agree! It’s so hard to review a great book like this without giving anything away. It’s one for Christmas fans and those who are looking for a feel-good story full of faith, love and romance…and of course, admirers of Liz Johnson.

Meddling with Mistletoe was a cute Christmas novella which had everything a reader would want for a Christmas novella.

A grinchy male character who slowly but surely shows us his softer side as the story developed. A cute, bubbly naïve female character who capture everyone’s hearts through her pie baking. Then a possible love triangle and a meddling aunt who tries to play cupid.

I enjoyed getting to know all the characters and watching the unwanted love relationship developed between characters it was easy to connect for and root for a happy ending.

I love this book! It did not take long to read and has a Christmas theme, which is a bonus for any time of the year! What makes this book so delightful to read are the characters, Whitney and Daniel, especially. Whitney needed to use a friend's kitchen in order to bake pies, earning money to pay for culinary school. She agreed to help play matchmaker for Daniel and Ruby before realizing that the two will not make a good couple. Daniel needed Whitney's joy and people skills, and Whitney appreciated the true worth of Daniel, as he helped her follow her dreams and personal strengths. The engaging children presented lead the adults in reinforcing the true faith meaning of Christmas. Give yourself and early Christmas gift and read this!

I seriously loved this sweet Christmas story. It's part of a series but completely stands on its own. Liz Johnson is a new to me author and I really connected with her writing style.

Although I'm not quite ready for Christmas, I couldn't have loved this more. It is so festive, I loved the small town vibes and the characters were absolutely superb.
