I was so pleasantly surprised at the multiple layers of this thriller, while being very easy to follow. This book sucked me right in and I couldn't put the book down!

I recommend this book for everyone and hope to read more from Alex Finlay in the future.

This is my second book by this author and won’t be my last. This story is action packed, fast paced and full of twists. A must read for fans of this genre. I really enjoyed the narration also. Thank you to the author, publisher NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

This was my first book by Alex Finlay and it did not disappoint.
New cop Poppy is put on the cold case of a missing high school girl Alison when her car is found in a lake. Her then boyfriend Ryan has been accused of her disappearance since he was with her when she disappeared, sticking to a crazy story that a man missing his pinkie fingers took her. When the car is found, Ryan's dad calls him to tell him while he is on a trip in Italy. He then sees the man with no pinkies and follows him to get some much needed answers. He needs to know what happened to Alison.
This book really took me a minute to get into because there are a few different POVs that seem to have absolutely nothing to do with one another. Along with Poppy and Ryan, we have Michael. Poppy and Ryan's overlap because Poppy is working the case and Ryan was involved, but the Michael POV really threw me. I don't want to give anything away about Michael because it was really a jaw dropping twist (to me anyways) but the way all the POVs ended up weaving together was so clever.
There were a lot of characters to keep track of which is another reason it took me a minute to get into the book. I think a lot of times with multiple POVs, the characters are together so we only get one set of characters to remember, but with this one there were 3 separate character groups to remember. Not all the characters were super likeable, but they weren't supposed to be. So while I didn't like some of the characters, they all did their job in the story really well. I think my favorite character was Poppy. She was a new cop starting her job with this big break in a cold case. She was determined not to sweep anything under the rug no matter who was responsible.
The pacing of the story was great with the different POVs. I was always eagerly awaiting what would happen next with each POV and the entire story was pretty action packed. There was a lot of info that connected with the other POVs, so you need to pay close attention.
There were 3 narrators for the audiobook which brought the story to another level. Even the 2 male POV narrators were different. Each of them did a great job portraying their part of the story and really bringing their parts to life.

I was so excited to read Alex Finlay's latest, and If Something Happens to Me was such an amazing book - I thought about it for days after finishing it! Told from different character perspectives, what seem like several different stories seamlessly come together as one for a gripping finale. I don't usually love crime boss thrillers, but this one was spectacular. Finlay does an amazing job creating each character uniquely, and drafting a realistic and believable plot. I cannot recommend this one enough! The narration was spectacular.

Alex Finlay does it again in another suspense novel that will have readers struggling to put down this book! The interwoven tale between the characters brought things together in a way that I never saw coming. If Something Happens to Me is a whirlwind story that spans from America to Europe and back, told from multiple viewpoints, and leaving readers guessing until the last moments!

Ryan Richardson is now in law school, enjoying a tour of Europe with classmates, doing his best to enjoy his life and forget about his teenage past - specifically the disappearance of his girlfriend Ali. Ryan had been ripped from the car Ali was driving one night several years ago, he heard her screams, and then everything went dark...and neither the car nor Ali were ever found. Naturally, Ryan was the first suspect in Ali's disappearance, and though he was never charged, the aftermath of being the suspicious boyfriend never left Ryan.

A break in the case - Ali's car has been found. With two deceased men in the car, and no sign of Ali. Now all of these years of wondering what happened lead to even more questions for Ryan, and the feeling there was much more going on with Ali than he knew.

While in Italy, Ryan is stunned to recognize the man who pulled him out of the car that night, a man he could never put a face to before, and this realization puts Ryan into a race for the truth and discovering what really happened that night. He will soon find out that Ali's disappearance does in fact have many more layers to it than he could have ever imagined.

Always a fan of Finlay, I am thankful to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the opportunity to receive this eAudiobook ARC. It did not disappoint with it's fast-paced story and fantastic narration. Highly recommend!

I have enjoyed this author’s previous works so I knew I needed to read this one. I listened to the audiobook for a little more than half and I liked it. The narrators did an excellent job and I think it helped me keep the people/locations straight since this book took place in multiple cities with several narrators. As I often do if I have the option I switched to kindle at the halfway point because I was done waiting for the resolution. I didn’t see every twist coming but I did see most of them. The people in this one at first seem completely separate but by the end you can see the threads that tie them together. Ryan is in law school on a school trip to Europe. He’s changed his last name because while he wasn’t charged so many people believed he killed his high school girlfriend who disappeared after being with him and still has never been found. But not everyone has forgot who he is and his pasts may find him even on another continent. Poppy is home from military service and got a job as a deputy, not something she expected, but she’s excited to start. On her first day the car Alison had been in when she disappeared is found but instead of her body there are bodies of two men in the car. This mystery was not bad although it was a little over the top at times I found it to be a fun and wild ride.

I think overall, this book had too many moving parts. There were so many moments that a reveal would happen and I'd be thinking "okay, now what?" not "oh my gosh I have to keep going." I won't say alll the things involved in the book that made it feel overwhelmed with plot points and characters. I'll just say that WAY too much happened and WAY too many twists occurred in the span of a 7 hour audiobook.

Wow really good. I had a hard time stopping to do other things. I like audiobooks that have more than one person reading. This book had several. The plot was great, easy to follow and I liked the characters. I got this free as a preview from NetGalley. Many thanks to them , McMillan audio of course the author.

The beginning of this one had me a bit confused because so much was going on & there were so many characters being introduced I felt like I couldn't keep it straight. Everything definitely came together & now I understand why it was set up like it was!

This book had multiple moments where my mouth was hanging open because I did not see the twists coming AT ALL. Once I got into it-- I just couldn't stop!

Hometown mysteries were girls go missing & the boyfriend being the suspect gets me. The only problem is that the boyfriend was cleared & now the man that haunts his dreams, the man that took his girlfriend all those years ago, has found him.

Read this one if you're into: hometown mysteries, the past coming back to haunt you, mobsters, & twists that you never saw coming

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for sending me an early copy of this audiobook! All opinions are my own!

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, and I still came out of it surprised at the end. It was full of twists and turns in every single chapter, and I can honestly say there wasn't a single moment that I was bored. It left me absolutely intrigued to the point that I read it much faster than I normally would because I simply needed to know what was going to happen so that I could stop thinking about it!

I think my favorite part of this book is how many different story lines are woven together. At first I was worried that it wasn't going to come together well enough at the end, but I think it was really expertly done, and I greatly enjoyed watching things fall into place.

This was an absolutely wild ride, and I would highly recommend it to any thriller/mystery lover out there!

This was a great listen. It had multiple point of views, and I really enjoyed each one and it took a while before they all came together to tie in and it was done seamlessly so I enjoyed the mystery. I enjoyed all the little hints along the way, it was very well written, and then it all tied in at the end, Thanks NetGalley that was a really nice listen and very well written book

I really liked this book, but I admit, I kind of lost my place in the middle of it. It started out really strong, but then I started mixing up the characters and perspectives. Once I got past the slow parts in the middle, it took off again. I had the story figured out quite early, but it was still an enjoyable book! The characters were interesting, but I did have trouble with Ryan’s character. The narrator for his character sounded extremely young to me, so it was hard for me to believe he was in his twenties. To me, he sounded like 16-year-old. I think it would have been easier to keep my attention had the narrator for Ryan sounded a bit older. I think for me, this book would be better read as opposed to an audiobook, but that’s just my personal opinion!

Huge thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!

This was my third book of Alex Finlay and I think I'm noticing a pattern. He introduces so many different characters and doesn't waste them as they all are connected to the story as the story goes on. I found this book to be the same. We are introduced to the mystery and follow along as the characters solve it. I found the story to be a bit convenient. After a teenage girl was thought to have been kidnapped and murdered we go on a journey years later after new evidence is found. All the connections are too convenient for me. The way the teen girl, is connected to both the boy who died and the mob boss who is also connected to her father who is paying back the debt his wife borrowed from and the cop and daughter, etc. It was too spot-on for me. I thought the narrators did a great job and helped make this book more palatable. It was a fine read.

The audiobook version of *If Something Happens to Me* was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the narration and the vibrant portrayal of the various characters. The book started out strong and immediately hooked me, although the ending felt prolonged. Despite this, I found the plot twist surprising and the story overall quite entertaining.

I appreciated how the book distinguished between the different locations of the characters, though at times, this and the conversations were a bit hard to follow. Nonetheless, the suspense kept me engaged throughout.

Many thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for providing early access to this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

"If Something Happens To Me" kept me intrigued from beginning to end. Such a web of people and events with layers of secrets. There are some harder topics of bullying and death of children. But it does make you think of what you would do as a parent to protect your child if you had the power to do so.

The only issue I had was how many POVs. I enjoy multiple timelines and multiple POVs which this had both but the numerous amount of POVs was just too much. I think the same story could have been conveyed with half as many POVs. It just took me out of the story when it was a pretty minor character that you had to remember how they fit in to the situation and I am not sure those POVs added anything critical to the underlying story.

Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for an advanced audiobook for review.

I read Night Shift by Alex Finlay so this was my second foray into his work - I went in not having read the synopsis which was kind of fun to go in blind.

If you can suspend a little bit of disbelief and just go into this with an open mind to the world and scenarios this author created - then you will really enjoy this. Some of it seemed far fetched but I was bought into the characters and the plot right away so huge kudos to the author.

This book is broken into a few "parts" and features multiple narrators. I listened to the audio and am so happy it was a full cast recording because it did help me keep the narrators clear. I would highly recommend listening to the audiobook!

I was a tad confused in Part 1 as to the timelines and how all these characters fit together - but that, I believe, was the point and when everything finally did come together and the puzzle pieces started fitting, it made the experience so enjoyable and I found myself getting "OH!!!" out loud when I would fit the puzzle piece in place.

This is not like a fast paced, page turning thriller as I expected but more of a slow burn, character driven thriller and I definitely enjoyed it. It may be forgettable as time goes on just because I read a lot of books but overall, I really enjoyed this listening experience and look forward to checking out more from this author.

Thank you to Netgalley & MacMillan Audio for this advanced listen in exchange for my honest opinion.

I received a complimentary audiobook from Macmillan audio and all opioms expressed are mine .

The book tells the story of Ryan who five years ago epxerienced the worst thing to happen on a date -his girlfriend (Ali) was yanked away and the world blamed him . He never made it to jail because there wasn't sufficient evidence and he had a good lawyer however while on a trip to Italy his dad calls him telling him that Ali's car has been found along with a note : If something happens to me. The book started quite strong and along the way it just became a tad bit dragged . The premise of the story was interesting ,the twist well done and the characters quite well developed.

This was my first Alex Finlay and it did not disappoint. This is a very fast paced thriller that ping pongs from place to place to solve a mysterious cold case. The plot twists and short chapters make this book seem so short! It is expected to be released May 28, 2024.
I listened to this novel as an audio book which was relatively short at 7 hours 16 mins. I enjoyed the variety in voices that narrated this novel. The 3 narrators helped to distinguish the characters as there are many characters which can be confusing at times. All narrators were easy to listen to and their pacing was spot on.
Thank you Net Galley, Alex Finlay and MacMillian Audio for the opportunity to preview this audiobook. The opinions shared are my own.

The audiobook version of If Something Happens to Me has distinct voices for several characters, which I LOVE! It really helps to keep the narration separate when there are so many characters in an audiobook. The separate locations of the characters was also helpful when learning all the characters and their (seemingly) individual plots. The plot twist at the end of Part 1 (60% into the book) was a surprise that brought my attention back to a book that I was finding somewhat cumbersome to follow. It seemed to pick up the pace from that point on. Overall, I was entertained by this book and am glad I took the time to listen.

Thanks to NetGalley for early access to this audiobook.

🎧 Audiobook Review! 🎧

If Something Happens to Me was kindly provided as an ARC by Netgalley and Macmillan Audio. Thank you for allowing me to enjoy this wonderful book!

Release Date: 5/28/24

Here I am, reading another thriller (honestly, who am I?).

If Something Happens to Me has a ton of layers to the story. I was definitely intrigued, trying to figure out how all these characters were linked together. At first, they didn’t seem to really link, so when those pieces of the story locked into place, it was really satisfying.

I will say, I was confused sometimes about who people were and their part, even with the narration (some people change names in the story), but I still enjoyed the book all the same.

I also loved the different locations in the book. It gave another layer of intensity, and I really enjoyed that.

If you like a good thriller, check this one out!
