Wild and stunning story of danger and dedication, Finlay’s newest thriller is a crazy ride!
While the disparate story lines made for a confusing start to the narrative, I was eventually sucked in to this twisty tale. There were so many layers that added to the dense plot and the characters had very satisfying arcs.
I think you’ll love the progression of the characters, the intense revelations and the satisfying ending.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy. These opinions are my own.

A Big Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for letting me tag along on this thrilling adventure.
This story started off with a bang- and just kept on going!! I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to keep up, because we have several locations and characters throughout this story. But don't worry, it's easy to keep up with, and all the twists and turns have everything come together nicely.
This book was a well thought out, well written, fast paced page turner!
Ryan has been living a nightmare since high school, when his girlfriend Ali was ripped trom his arms one night, never to be seen again. His recollection of that evening was vague. To compound the pain, no one believed his tale of what happened.
Years later Ryan changed his last name hoping to reinvent himself.
On a trip to Italy with his law school classmates he catches sight of something that shocks him to the core. It's the man from that dreaded day! Ryan must risk his own life to track this man down and finally find out what happened to Ali.
Alex Finlay does it again!
Another wildly propulsive read by Finlay that is sure to keep you fully engaged trying to assemble the pieces of this twisted puzzle.
If Something Happens To Me is a fast-paced thriller about a missing girl presumed dead and the young man blamed for it, a notorious crime boss, and a new sheriff in town trying to put the pieces together.
As with any thriller, for me, quick chapters are imperative! Finlay doesn’t disappoint with the pacing. I read this via audiobook, and had it finished in less than two days. I couldn’t stop!
It’s multilayered and unsettling with an atmospheric backdrop that unfolds jaw dropping twists and revelations from beginning to end.
Thank you to MacMillan Audio and Minotaur Books for the audio ARC.
How do you ever forget the night your girlfriend was abducted and you were left for dead on the side of the road? Those are the nightmares Ryan lives with along with the fact that most people thought he was involved in the abduction.
The narrative in this book spins a tale of deception that runs deep in the local town with some good twists and turns you won’t see coming. The characters are well developed and abundant in number, but you can easily keep track of them all. The book is packed with action, mystery and intrigue. It’s a book that will keep you engaged and quickly turning the pages.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillian Audio for my ALC in exchange for my honest opinion.
It’s been a while since I read a thriller worth 5 stars, but this one did it! A mob boss, a new Deputy, a law student, and a missing girl. Seemingly random narrations, until the dots start to connect in ways I didn’t see coming. A quick read that had me engaged from start to finish!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced copy of this book!
After the kidnapping of his thought to be murdered girlfriend, Ryan has made significant changes by moving away and changing his name after everyone thought he was the one behind the crime. After a blast from the past from a man he remembered from that night and the recovery of the car his girlfriend was kidnapped in, Ryan must team up with his old hometown’s newest deputy sheriff. Nothing will be the same after that.
This book crosses timelines and time zones to bring to life how these strangers are connected. Ryan’s storyline takes him across Europe while the deputy sheriff, Poppy, spends her time in Kansas. A third storyline takes place in Pennsylvania in a mob boss’s, Shane O’Leary, criminal organization. The story crisses and crosses between these narratives building an ever connected web of lies and deceit and violence.
It’s clear from the beginning who you should be rooting for to succeed, but the author was able to make the most unlikeable a sympathetic character leaving me to root for the mob boss for the majority of the book. In the end, no one really wins which mimics the real world. The twists in the story were predictable both because of a lot of foreshadowing and the use of genre tropes. However, the fast paced nature and switching POVs will leave you saying just one more chapter.

thank you to netgalley, macmillan audio and alex finlay for the chance to listen to the audio.
i had a good time with this. it started off with a bang and got right to the story. i enjoyed the 3 different story lines and was really curious to see how they’d come together. i made an audible gasp out loud at work once they did. i think some of the characters lacked development so i couldn’t fully feel for them. i enjoyed the really quick chapters but had a hard time keeping track of characters once the storylines came together. overall i really enjoyed it.
recommend? yes.

Wow! If Something Happens to Me is a fast-paced, multi POV thriller and I was hooked from page one! I was intrigued by the premise, but I didn’t expect so many twists and turns, as well as themes of tragedies in violence and love. We mainly follow three narrators, and I was at the edge of my seat wondering how they all tied together. Alex Finlay’s storytelling was fantastic! We had interesting characters throughout the entire novel, when I originally thought we would only hear from the boyfriend, Ryan. The author actually made me laugh a few times as well (Swedes in Italy reference, for example).
My main critique? The missing character, Alison, was very “not like other girls,” but the rest of the cast made up for the stereotype with their interesting narratives! I was hooked on their stories and how everything else unraveled. The full cast narration really brings everything to life. They did a great job voicing the crime boss, small town sheriff, and wrongfully accused boyfriend. The book just worked on so many levels, and I was surprised the author got deep when exploring the world of crime. I actually ended up feeling attached to unexpected characters???
I’m still new to thrillers but I’m enjoying them SO MUCH and this is a top rec for me! In the end, I binged this book in two days (only pausing because my jaw dropped and I was processing LOL). Definitely checkout the audiobook/book for a fast-paced thriller and great time.
I really enjoyed this book. The multiple POVs and storylines really kept my attention. I was drawn in and invested into what happened to the missing girl. I love how the author intertwined each of the stories together. The narrators were great and drew me into the story even more. Great job!
After reading and enjoying What Have We Done I was really excited to give another book by Alex Finlay a try. If Something Happens To Me did not disappoint! This book is a fast paced and action packed thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved the truly unique characters and different storylines. The shorter chapters helped me fly through and devour this book. The narration added a wonderful level of depth in the audiobook. I definitely recommend this for fans of fast paced thrillers!
Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Multiple stories and timelines all tie in to one crucial night. Years ago, Ryan was violently pulled from his girlfriend Ali’s car as someone else took her. 5 years later, her car is found in a lake with the bodies of two men inside and a cryptic envelope written by Ali, news Ryan gets from halfway around the world, not knowing how close to the investigation he may be. Meanwhile a rookie sheriff is working her first case in Kansas with little idea of her family’s ties to the missing girl or how a Pennsylvania mob boss also comes into play.
For a while I was very lost while reading but as everything started to connect, I couldn’t put it down. The thrill of the novel really took off in the last quarter of the book. Can’t wait to check out what else Finlay has written.
The narrators Helen Laser, John Pirhalla, and Paul Dateh brought so much depth to the different characters and timelines, from the determination of a young woman to the spine chilling demeanor of a violent mobster.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
A good and suspenseful book with fantastic narrators.
This book started off at a fast clip and I really enjoyed it. The middle did get slow and since it was told from multiple points of view at times it had me a little confused. Luckily it was fairly easy to get back into the story and the narrators did a great job of helping the story flow.
The ending had me very surprised and for once I didn't see it coming.
All in all a great and enjoyable book.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I love an Alex Finlay thriller and this is no exception. This had a great plot and moved through the story at good pacing. The full cast audiobook really brought the book to life.
Fans of his previous works will not be disappointed.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for my advance copy of this audiobook
I will say the narration was fantastic. I did enjoy the audio portion of this book. The story was from 3 different POV and it became a little much to keep up with. I was confused and spent more time trying to remember and figure out what was going on in each chapter.
This book follows three POVs: Brian's, who was with his girlfriend Allison when she was taken by some unknown man, with few memories of that night and was originally the prime suspect; Poppy McGee, the sheriff's deputy in the same town where Allison was taken, whose first day on the job starts with them finding Allison's car sunken in the lake five years later; and Shane O'Leary, a mob boss who seemingly has no ties or connections to any of this.
I'm honestly not sure how to rate this one, because I genuinely loved it at the beginning, but a little over halfway through, it went off the rails a bit. The first part follows the mystery of truly how the three POVs are connected - Brian's and Poppy's are a little more obvious, but I couldn't figure out how O'Leary fit into all of this - and the connection was truly shocking (and very sad).
But that was the main ~whodunnit~ piece of this story. After about 60% it turns into a chase/run from the mob, there's no more ~mystery~. It was thrilling for sure to wonder whether they were going to make it/who would die, but it just went from being a murder mystery thriller to something like an action movie if that makes sense? Which is totally fine - just not what I expected.
I think I'm going to land around a 3.5/3.75 for readability and entertainment value, just knocking it down for the lack of twists.
If Something Happens to Me is another stellar book from Alex Finlay. The audiobook has multiple narrators, Which provides additional depth to the storytelling. The book is told through multiple storylines over a 5 year timeline that ultimately intersect for an unexpected ending. a great thriller. Highly recommend!
Ryan's life was changed forever when his girlfriend was abducted from her car when they were on a date. Years later, Ali's car is recovered from the lake in his hometown, stirring up questions about what really went down that night.
This was a fast-paced mystery with multiple points of view. The audiobook was great as it has a full cast of narrators to help distinguish the characters, but it was still a lot to keep up with at times. It'll keep your mind racing trying to figure out how the pieces are connected, what really happened years earlier, and who may be a threat now.
My review is intentionally vague as I think it's best to go in blind, but recommend it if you like a short and twisty thriller.
Thanks Macmillan Audio for my gifted copy.
If Something Happens to Me was a fast paced mystery with an action packed ending! I loved it!!
Synopsis: Ali was taken 5 years ago and her boyfriend is still haunted from that night. But Ali’s car is recently discovered in a lake, with some strange surprises. Is Ali alive, why did she disappear, and what exactly happened that night?
My thoughts: This book was pretty different from other mysteries and the twists weren’t huge and surprising, but created the perfect shock value. I loved how the book was was set up. There were 3 settings, following 3 distinct and very different characters. The story converged so perfectly at the end!
🎧 The audiobook with multiple narrators was amazing and I highly recommend listening!! Thank you MacMillan Audio for the advanced copy!
If Something Happens to Me by Alex Finley had me from page one. It started strong and continued to be till the end. It is action packed full of lies and deceit. I liked the short chapters and all the twists and turns. I thought I would have a hard time with multiple storylines, but Finley does excellent work of making them tie together so well. This is a masterpiece and one that I highly recommend!
Thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur for the advance copy.
