This thriller is well-deserving of being a USA Today Bestseller! I love the twists & turns that one of my favorites, Alex Finlay, took me on in this wild ride of a psychological thriller! I had the honor of not only receiving an advance ecopy, but also the audiobook & loved hearing the words narrated. Helen Laser, John Pirhalla & Paul Dateh were fantastic!
Thank you, Alex Finlay, Macmillan Audio, Minotaur Books, St Martins Press, & netgalley for my advance ecopy and audiobook! All opinions are my own!
"If Something Happens to Me" is a truly captivating novel, with an exceptionally unique ending. The story unfolds across two separate timelines, delving into the characters' history. Despite the initial confusion, the revelation of all the hidden truths towards the end was a highlight for me.
The ending was executed with cleverness, offering each character closure and a satisfying ending, althought not in the conventional sense.
Overall, this book is full of unexpected twists and turns. It's a quick read that will keep you engaged and eagerly turning pages. I thrive on books that hold me captive like this.
A big thank you to NetGalley for graciously providing me with a copy of the novel in exchange for my honest review.
This was a great audiobook and story. The narrators were excellent and the story kept me guessing. If you are looking for a thriller, definitely pick this one up asap!
Definitely a case of waiting way too long to write a proper review so this will likely be short and sweet. Alex Finlay books are always a hit for me, while they may not totally blow me away they're thoroughly enjoyable and exciting to read. This book felt a little over the top, but it was just enough that it was still entertaining and kept me on my toes.
Audiobook was excellent! Narrator was really good.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an early audio copy of this book.
Honestly this kept me on my toes following different timelines to find out what happened to Alison.
The ending was a little obvious, and I saw the traps falling right into place. A fun and thrilling book.
Alex Finlay does it again. I've enjoyed every audiobook of his. One thing that is special is the multiple perspectives and performers. Engaging story, leaves you thinking about how fun the listening experience was weeks and months after.
I loved No Exit, so I went into this one with fairly high expectations and it didn't quite do it for me. But it still was engaging and a decent read.
I've been an Alex Finlay fan since the beginning and this book did not disappoint! I loved the way it was written, and it really kept me on my toes. I could not put this down! I loved the twists and turns, and honestly it was just a thrill. So perfectly thought out! I 100% recommend this one! The narration wasn't my favorite ever, but I still couldn't stop listening.
Alex Finlay is a great storyteller and in his newest book If Something Happens to me helped seal that deal even more.
This book was a wild ride. So go in blind, buckle up and enjoy this ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Short cliffhanger chapters will have you binge reading this in one sitting. Be prepare to journey from Italy to France and even to Kansas and so many other places in between. This book will definitely check off lots of places around the world for you. Oh the adventures you’ll go!! Absolutely can’t wait to see what this author writes next!
A huge thank you to NetGalley, St Martin Press and Macmillan Audio for this ARC & ALC in exchange for my honest review. 4 thrilling stars! The narration was perfect and kept me totally mesmerized! Highly recommend if you live fast pace thrillers, podcast and true crime and a full cast audio! Chefs Kiss!!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the review copy.
I liked but didn’t love it. It was interesting though confusing for me at first.
Rating: 3/5
If you enjoy the unreliable narrator type stories, this is a GREAT pick! The mystery keeps you guessing and you don't feel like you can trust anything. There are a lot of characters and settings and it is easy to get "lost among the weeds"; its all part of keeping you wondering. There is even a mob subplot! This book really throws everything at you in the search for what happened 5 years ago and it was super interesting. The audio is fabulous (3 narrators) and really made the story come alive. 4 stars for the book but 5 stars for the narrators!
This book had me confused enough to keep going- each storyline unearthed new info and then one just fully opened me up to understanding that was such a twist!
I really enjoyed the narration and thought the story was enjoyable and clever- I didn’t love each of the storylines…some were more interesting or more fast paced than others.
Thank you for the arc in exchange for an honest review!
Short synopsis: Ryan’s life has never been the same since his girlfriend was stolen out of his car, now five years later Ryan spots the man he recognizes as bashing him on the head before stealing Ali.
My thoughts: This was a fun popcorn thriller with added elements of podcasts, multiple times lines, missing girls, and major cliffhanger endings.
There were a few moments that didn’t come as a surprise, but definitely ones that came out of nowhere and had my head spinning.
Quick and completely bingeable with short chapters that had me needing to flip pages quicker to see what was going to happen next. The audio was so well done and I loved the multiple narrators voicing the characters. It kept me completely engaged and I binged this on a long road trip.
Read if you love:
- Fast paced thrillers
- Missing girls
- Podcasts and true crime
- Multiple POV
- Full cast audio
Alex Finley books are just not for me. I read The Night Shift by Alex Finley when it came out and I wasn't a big fan, but I wanted to give the author another go just to see if it was the book or the author that I wasn't a fan of. This was another book that I was disappointed by. I know Alex Finley is really making a name for themselves, but this might by my last book by them for a while.

**Ryan, Poppy, Shane—their narratives collide, creating an intricate web of suspense.
**A rollercoaster ride of secrets, redemption, and unexpected alliances. Buckle up!
🎧From Tuscany’s rolling hills to Paris’s glittering streets, the audiobook transports you.
Emily Bauer's voice brings the characters to life, capturing their emotions and adding an extra layer of suspense. Whether it’s the urgency in Ryan’s search or the enigmatic tone of Poppy’s secrets, Bauer’s narration enhances the overall experience. You’ll find yourself immersed in the story, hanging on every word.
Five years ago, Ryan Richardson and his girlfriend Alison Lane, aka Ali, were high school sweethearts getting ready for college. On the night when they are parked at Lovers Lane, someone opens the car door, drags Ryan out and knocks him out. When he comes do, Ali and her car are gone. He remembers one thing about the man who pulled him from the car, his hands. He is the main suspect, but is never charged. He is still the one everyone thinks knows what happened to Ali, so he changes his name and tries to move on. He is presently in law school. When Ali's car is found at the bottom of the lake, with 2 dead bodies in it, a podcaster and the news outlets, brings it all up again. There is a not found in the car that lets Ryan know that Ali is still alive. Along with this plot line, there is another storyline dealing with a shady criminal boss by the name of Shane O'Leary. He has something to do with Ali's disappearance, but what? How does his story about his son tie into Ali's and Ryan's story? Deputy Poppy McGee is tasked with trying to find out who the dead bodies are, and what happened to Alison Lane. When Ryan spots the man who dragged him out of the car while on a trip in Italy, the story heats up.
If Something Happens to Me is told from three POVs, Poppy, Ryan and O'Leary. It takes a while to see how these two seemingly indistinct stories come together. Poppy is a smart cookie. She might think she got the job because of her father's friendship with the Sheriff, but she is able to put the various pieces together and not take things at face value. She is also great at getting people to talk to her, although she takes some chances as well. Ryan is off in Europe following a man that he is sure is involved in the kidnapping, but things happen that make it look like he might be in danger. There are a lot of tense moments in this story. At times I thought I knew what was happening, but then there was a twist that took me in another direction. When I had that aha moment, things began to become clear, but Alex Finlay was not finished with me yet. I raced through this one. The audiobook was narrated by Helen Laser, John Pirhalla and Paul Dateh. I love when a book has different narrators for each of the main characters and this book does it perfectly. Each POV was delivered by a different narrator, making this book come alive for me. If you enjoy a good suspenseful story with great characters and an enjoyable storyline, then I recommend you pick up If Something Happens to Me.
This was a very interesting and engaging thriller with several different storylines. Each storyline was different in its own right. I like the settings of the book and felt that that added to the thriller elements. Overall, I felt this wa a great book and something I could recommend.
Thank you Netgalley for my ARC
This was just not a favorite of mine.
The story itself felt forced and was a bit predictable in some parts.
The whole plot felt like an overreaction to a very fixable problem.
I dunno, maybe just me.
This was my first Alex Finlay novel, and I will definitely be reading more! With its fast pace, short chapters, and multiple POVs, it was a quick and easy read that I couldn’t put down. I was quickly pulled into the story, and the suspense kept me entertained and turning the pages to find out what happened next. There were so many twists that I did not see coming, and one in particular (you’ll know which one when you read it!) actually made me gasp out loud. If this is what I can expect from Finlay’s other works, then I am looking forward to reading more from him!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Paul Dateh, Helen Laser, and John Pirhalla. Another superb production from Macmillan Audio, and I am so happy it was a multicast narration. This is a great audiobook to binge in one sitting. The narrators all did such a wonderful job, and I felt like I was watching a movie. Highly recommend!
Thank you to Minotaur Books and Macmillan Audio for the ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.
Alex Finlay has done it again with If Something Happens to Me. This book is an incredible addition to his other books. From the very first page, he draws you into a world filled with suspense and tension. I can't wait to see what he comes with next.
