Loved the multiple POVs and how the story tied together. The story was a bit slower than I generally like but overall it was a really good book. Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to review!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
What a great book! All three narrators did an amazing job.
I loved the three separate plots that I knew would eventually all merge together and match up.
I loved the characters. Once I started this audiobook I couldn’t stop listening and finished it in two days.
Alex Finlay is a great author and this book is another hit that did not disappoint.
I always think that these books with multiple POV or timelines are even better as audiobooks too.
Alex Finlay has done it again. This one had me enthralled from the start and held me captive until the end. There was so much going on, but I never felt like it was too much. It was a very intense read and had me on the edge of my seat. I read this book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down.
This story follows 3 primary narrators: Ryan, who was once accused of his girlfriend's murder, but is now on a law school trip to Italy; Poppy, a young war vet that has returned home to Kansas to work as a Deputy Sheriff; and Shane, who is the head of a major crime syndicate in Philadelphia. The way these characters' stories are interwoven really pulls you in. At first you may not know what one has to do with the other, but the revelations will come. So many twists and turns. This is what a thriller should be: full of action, suspense, tension, & mystery.
TW: Suicide. Kidnapping. Violence. Murder.
This is my first book by Alex Finlay and I inhaled it. Like... could not put it down, SO good. I will say, I figured out what was going on by about the midway point, but it didn't stop me from enjoying it any less. I listened to this book, and the narration was wonderful! This will not be my last Alex Finlay book, I look forward to listening and reading others!
Thank you to NetGalley and the Author for this advance listener copy in exchange for my honest review.
Another great book from Finlay! When the book starts there are four distinct storylines, and multiple voices narrating perfectly throughout the audio. Storylines that make the reader unsure of how they are going to connect, but connect they do with a nice twist!
Five years ago, Ryan was pulled from a car and struck on the head and his girlfriend, Ali, and the car disappeared. With suspicion surrounding Ryan, his life has forever changed, but he still can’t get past that night.
Poppy has just returned to her hometown in Kansas as a deputy sheriff. She’s about to embark on a case that could end her career and her life before she even gets her feet off the ground.
Shane is the head of a major crime syndicate in Philadelphia and he is out for blood. Trying to right a wrong that has torn his family apart.
Michael and his fourteen year old daughter, Taylor, are on the run, but are they safe?
When Ali’s car is found, the story takes off, so buckle up and enjoy the ride!
As a joint read/listen, I’d like you to thank Minotaur Books, McMillan Audio and NetGalley for an ARC and ALC of this book.
This one was middle of the road for me. I loved that it was fast paced because of the short chapters, and had multiple settings. But, I didn't love the multiple POVS and characters....I got confused on who was who, and I actually stopped reading this book for two weeks before picking it back up. I think, overall, I just didn't love the mobster/mafia theme of this one. I thought it was a bit silly to me, but I don't normally like books involving mobsters...although, I do love a good mobster movie. Also, the plot twist was not very exciting.
This is my first Alex Finlay book, and I think people who have read him before will probably enjoy it. If you love the mafia trope, you would enjoy this too. I will still read another book from this author since I think the meat of the book just wasn't for me.
Thank you NetGalley for my digital copy.
I loved this book! It was fast paced, twisty, and an all around good story. I was invested in the storylines. I liked following the characters throughout the years with the flashbacks. Would recommend this to friends and family.
Rating: 5 stars! (I would give more if I could!!)
I have always had my eye on Alex Finlay and finally got my hands on an ARC copy of If Something Happens to Me. The storycontains multiple POVs that captured me right away! Seeing the various characters POVs on the decisions that were made throughout the book had me flying through the book. The different narrators for each character kept me engaged. The voice acting on this was top knotch!
Cannot recommend giving this one a read enough!
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC Audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve read everything Alex Finley has put out and this might be my favorite. There were several story lines taking place but the way they came together was so cool. Perfect length, great ending, *chefs kiss*
4 stars
Alex Finlay has does it again, but audiobook listeners beware: you will get great narration, but you need to focus. There are a lot of characters and a lot of details to pay attention to here.
One woman's disappearance impacts the trajectory of multiple characters, and since unraveling the mystery is the best part, I'll keep any further discussion of events quiet. What I will add is that it is a lot of fun to put the pieces together through various characters' perspectives, details, and revelations. Full disclosure, I did have to restart this one after realizing I must have missed some key information during my casual first listening attempt. This isn't the kind of thriller/mystery listeners should plan to engage with passively.
I really enjoy Finlay's work, and this most recent book is no exception. Added props for a quick read which - at this time of year - especially has its place on a beach or at a pool near you.
Oh, and I recommend the audiobook when and where accessible. The narrators add a lot to the experience.
I was instantly pulled into this story and my attention never waivered! I will absolutely recommend this title to fans of Lucy Foley and Karin Slaughter. It was everything a thriller should be! Thank you for the advanced copy.
A fun popcorn thriller. There is a lot of action and traveling all over the globe. I thought this was a fun story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this audio ARC.
I was so excited to listen to this one after seeing so many rave reviews. I listened to it in one day. It was definitely fast paced and exciting. Unfortunately, I ultimately wasn’t very impressed.
The main characters, Poppy and Ryan, seemed much older than early twenties. It didn’t seem realistic that the books’ characters in that age range all seemed so mature.
For the first half of the book there seems to be two different stories being told. I was intrigued to see how it tied together, but once things started coming together it all seemed too far reached. On top of that I don’t think that these specific characters would have actually figured it all out. It was like when it was time for the characters to know a big piece of information they just instantly knew the information with little to no effort. (Ex: Ryan breaking the code and his friends [I didn’t even realized he liked anyone from that group-let alone they were a friend group] just amazingly pin dropped a few possible locations where the person would be…).
I’m glad so many people have enjoyed this one, but, like any book, it won’t be for everyone.
This review will be shared on NetGalley, Goodreads, and Amazon.

Great book. Full of drama and intrigue. Definitely a page turner that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I finished the book in one day. Thank you so much for the advanced copy. Just when you’ve guess what happened or what’s going to happen, the author throws you a bone and points you in a different direction. The story contained all of the elements of a good novel. It had teenage love, murder, mystery the mob, bullying and revenge. The story was told in two time frames which really tied everything together in a neat bow. I just love this author writing still and have read other books from this author. I highly recommend this book!!
If Something Happens to Me is a brilliant thriller! The fast pace and intriguing storylines led me to binge listen to the audio in less than 24 hours. This story follows a law school student whose girlfriend was abducted in high school, a small town deputy sheriff new to her job, and a mobster. Despite following three POVs, I never felt confused about characters or timelines, and I really enjoyed how they intertwined.
The narration was incredible, and I loved that there were three narrators for the three POVs.
Highly recommend for fans of fast paced, multi POV thrillers!
I received an ALC from Macmillan Audio in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this one!
As a warning, you may need to get out your notepad to keep track of all the characters.
There are two storylines in this one that eventually merge together. There’s Ryan, who experienced a horrific crime 5 years earlier when his high school girlfriend was abducted. The other storyline involves a mob boss whose son is being bullied at school.
This is a fantastic, fast paced thriller that you can easily read in one sitting.
There are multiple narrators used in the audiobook, which I love.
Definitely put this in your TBR piles!
Thanks to the author, NetGalley, and MacMillan Audio for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really been looking forward to this one especially on audio and it did not disappoint! I've enjoyed some his other work especially The Night Shift. This one had me hooked right away! It kept me super invested and engaged throughout the whole thing and was pretty fast paced. I'm usually not a huge fan of a thrillers with several different main characters but I feel like this one did a good job. It constantly kept me on my toes and trying to figure out what was going on. I really enjoyed it and recommend adding it to your upcoming thriller releases! The audio was fantastic!!
Huge thank you to Macmillan Audio for the ALC!
Side note: this may be one of my favorite book covers ever! I mean, look at it!!
FINALLY an actually thrilling thriller! Just like THE NIGHT SHIFT by Alex Finlay, this one had me on the edge of my seat and was non-stop action! If like me, you loved THE NIGHT SHIFT and maybe didn't love WHAT HAVE WE DONE, you need to give this one a shot!!
There was one twist that really got me good! It's so rare that a twist is SO well done and SO satisfying that I literally wanted to applaud Finlay for the way he pulled this one off!
There was a lot going and this required my full attention, which was easy to give because I couldn't look away! I started reading this with a friend and left her in the dust (sorry) because I literally couldn't put it down! Make sure when you plan to start that you carve out a large chunk of time!
Finlay has definitely become an auto-buy author for me and I can't wait to see what he comes up with next! This one will be a huge hit for sure!
The audio production was well done! Helen Laser is quickly becoming a new favorite narrator for me!
This will be available on May 28th!
“A good rule to live by: Never criticize someone’s family.”
Woah! When I requested an ARC of this book I was convinced that I had read and loved Alex Finlay. To my surprise, I realized that this is actually my FIRST book by this author. And if If Something Happens To Me is any indication of this author’s other works I will be adding them all to my tbr asap!
This book is such a page turner that I quite literally could not put it down. In fact, I read it in one sitting. It has everything that I love in a thriller: a crazy story that held my interest, short chapters, multiple pov, and both likable and veryyy unlikable characters. This is a mystery that unwraps like a present. Just..all of the stars!
The audiobook was *chefs kiss*. Read by three narrators this book was utterly addictive. One narrator that can do multiple voices is always fantastic. But multiple narrators? It’s like sitting down with a bowl of popcorn and watching a movie. Loved it!
“The only way to truly experience a city, or a country, for that matter, is to experience it with a local.” Absolute FACTS!
Thank you to Netgalley, Macmillan Audio, St. Martin’s Press/Minotaur Books, and the author for the ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced audiobook.
Another hit from Alex Finlay. This was just the right amount of overlapping plots for different characters, that ultimately all pull together in the climax. There were surprises from beginning to end. Never a dull moment.
