An absolutely brilliant cookbook for children, families and beginners. This book has it all. With step-by-step instructions on getting started cooking. This book shows how to prepare meals, the different types of vegetables, herbs and more. That’s just the beginning. The book is packed with information on how and what to cook. Then when you get to the recipes it’s packed with amazing photos and guides. The recipes are so detailed that children will be able to follow with ease, and those of us adults who are learning too. The recipes have descriptions, detailed ingredients and amazing step by step directions and more. They are foods that children and family will want to try. Every food group and meal can be found. I have learned so much from this book myself, like how to correctly make couscous. Then of course we found some new favorites like Chocolate-cherry Bonbons, FrenchToast and Baked Potatoes. This book is perfect for the little chef in your lives as a guide on getting started cooking and to get creative. We love this as a family especially. I highly recommend it for any family with little ones who want to learn to cook or dream of being a chef. I can’t even say enough about how amazing this cookbook is. We received it as an ebook ARC but can’t wait for October so we can add a copy to our home collection of favorite cookbooks. It makes a great gift as well. Enjoy and get cooking with your kids.

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC! This book contains wonderful kid-friendly recipes. The recipes are easy to follow and would be perfect for adults learning to cook as well as children. I found the "Did you know" sections of each recipe interesting. I'll definitely be adding this book to my collection so that my little one and I can continue to make these recipes.

Don’t find this book worthy of a purchase. Merely a rehash of recipes many which a child won’t eat. Disappointing.

The basics are good for everyone not just kids. I learned some new techniques reading this book. There are some excellent recipes for young and old. I look forward to trying some of these recipes with my grown kids. I would recommend this book for anyone that wants to start their kids off right in the kitchen.

Great kid friendly recipes that are the quality you’d expect from Mark Bittman. These are solid recipes that would be great for adult learning how to cook, too.

My 13yo sister stays with us all summer and periodically throughout the year. She has a real interest in cooking and dreams of one day writing a cookbook.

In other words, I requested this for her. Unfortunately she found the book was far too wordy "there is too much reading" and said it was basically the same as any "adult" cookbook. Other than it having "kid foods" like mac n cheese, I have to agree with her.

She also wanted step-by-step pictures at least some of the time, or a link to videos. She emphasized to me multiple times that kids these days want media (videos) not long paragraphs.

She also said she knew how to make most of these things because I've showed her. Being allergic to dairy she felt there wasn't a lot for her here but she did try the oatmeal cookies and liked them but not as much as the vegan ones we usually make,

This is a great place to start if your child is ready and eager to learn how to cook and bake. The illustrations are cute, the recipes are easy to understand and implement, and Mark Bittman explains the whys and hows in an engaging manner.

You’ll find everything from egg dishes, pasta and snacks to pudding, cookies and cakes. It’s easy to pick one recipe at a time and make your way through the book at your child’s desired pace. Bittman includes his grandchildren in the photos, and it’s heartwarming to see how much fun they all had in the making of this book. I’m sure it will be a cherished memory for all involved.

What are you waiting for? Get your kid in the kitchen! 😄
