I was provided an ARC of this title for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m not typically an alien kind of gal, but I really enjoyed this. I participated in the Entangled Insiders read-along for the title, and it really enhanced the experience.

This had a boatload of tropes I love, except with extraterrestrials in place of fae, and I found that I vibe with it.

Thanks so much to the author, NetGalley & Entangled for my copy!

As a Jennifer Armentrout fan, I was shocked that this book had eluded my radar until now. Diving into it, I was immediately drawn to the dynamic character development and the intense chemistry between Katy and Daemon. Their interactions are a delightful blend of tension and humor, making for an engaging read.

Katy's spunky, resilient nature makes her a relatable and admirable protagonist, able to stand her ground against any challenge—be it alien or human. Daemon's character is skillfully constructed, evolving from an arrogant, stand-offish neighbor to a complex, multi-dimensional yet unlikely hero.

Jennifer Armentrout has crafted a compelling narrative that blends romance, science fiction, and action seamlessly. "Obsidian" is a must-read for fans of the genre and anyone looking for an exhilarating escape into a world where the extraordinary becomes reality.

A new stunning cover for the re-release of Jennifer L. Armentrout's YA Lux Series took me back to Daemon Black and 2012.

Hot aliens, Star-Crossed Lovers (Forbidden Love), Teen Angst - all of the stuff you know you want to read about again ;)

Read the series, thank me later!

Obsidian I couldn’t help but draw comparisons to twilight which is NOT a bad thing being as I was a twihard growing up. But I think that’s one of the best parallels to explain the book, but instead of vampires it’s aliens and not creepy slimey aliens, hot neighbor next door alien with some really cool abilities with light and electricity! The will they, won’t they between Katy and Daemon was both frustrating and enticing… their back and forth/hot and cold relationship is what really makes you want to push forward to get to that point where you’re screaming JUST KISS ALREADY!!! Immediately jumped into the next book because HAD to know what happens next!

Obsidian is the first book in the Lux series. It follows Katy as she moves to West by God Virginia. She moves next door to twins around her age, Daemon & Dee. She immediately befriends Dee, the girl, but receives nothing but hostility from the insanely hot brother, Daemon. Daemon spends a lot of time trying to push Katy away and stop her from being friends with Dee, but the closer he pushes her away, the closer they get. Eventually, the truth comes out about why he's trying to push her away, and his plans backfire in the worst (or maybe best) way possible. The Black twins have secrets, and Katy is brought into their world whether anyone wants it or not.
The banter, chemistry & will they, won't they between Katy & Daemon is fantastic. Katy is a book nerd, and as a book lover, I appreciate her love for books and references. Dee & Katy's friendship is just what they both need, and the dynamic between the three of them is great. It's a different fantasy/paranormal story and is unique and refreshing.

I've read this book multiple times over the last 10 years or so, and I enjoy it like it's new each time. The Lux series is one of my favorites and is a comfort read when I need a book I know I will love. This go-round, I read Obsidian as a tandem read with Oblivion, which has Obsidian told from Daemon's point of view. I recommend this only if you've already read Obsidian before, not for a first-time read. I've read both books previously, by themselves, and enjoyed the chapter-to-chapter re-reading from each point of view.

Star Rating: 4.5/5 ⭐

Obsidian is book one in the Lux series. In celebration of the re-release of this book, I participated in a readalong. This is my first read by Jennifer L. Armentrout (affectionately known as JLA), and this won't be my last. I enjoyed this story so much. This is my first time reading an alien or paranormal romance, and I loved every second of it. This story pulled me in from the start, and I was completely invested in Katy and Daemon's journey. I loved the tension, angst, witty banter, and their chemistry. I could not put this book down. I am excited to have been introduced to this author and can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Thanks to Jennifer L. Armentrout, Entangled Publishing, and NetGalley for providing me with an eARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book is simply amazing.

There are a number of distinct similarities to Twilight but it was better written. with more likeable characters and more chemistry (and I say that as someone who quite liked Twilight).

There is something addictive about the way this is written and I just couldn't put it down - once I started there was no stopping me and I finished this in one sitting.

Let's start with the characters - Katie is so relatable - especially to a book lover so what's not to love? Daemon is the brooding hot guy and exactly how I like my male main characters to be written. The chemistry between them is tense and so hot - the building up between them is well written and despite Daemon not always treating her well, I couldn't help but root for them. Katie's no pushover and I loved it when she would give Daemon as good as he gave.

My only issue was that despite me knowing he wasn't one, I couldn't help picturing Daemon as a vampire throughout this book.

The plot is action packed, there's great chemistry and characters and it's a well written book - what more could you want?

I wasn't sure what to expect from Obsidian. I did not read the synopsis before starting the book, but know that I have loved everything I've read from this publisher. This book is actually a rerelease and is the first in a series of five (plus small novellas). If you choose to start this book, you might as well block out a few weeks of reading because you won't be able to stop at the first book. Each book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for the next book in the series. I am now on book four and completely off on my scheduled book reading!

New to me author, entertaining book. Kind of like "I am Number 4" meets "Twilight". Very slow at times and I wish the pacing was a little faster. Not sure I will continue with the other books in the series.

This was my FIRST paranormal romance. I normally gravitate towards fantasy, so this was a huge change of pace from my regular reading material.

Spoiler alert: I loved it. Daemon is the book boyfriend we all deserve. I related a lot to Katy a lot because I was very similar to her as a teenager. This was a very quick and refreshing read. I can’t wait for the cover refresh of the rest of the series!!

Thank you to Brittany and Entangled Publishing for allowing me an ARC of this story.

I absolutely adored this book and was thrilled to dive into the rest of the series. Jennifer Armentrout has once again delivered an incredible story, filled with enemies turned lovers, captivating aliens, and a constant sense of suspense. If you're unsure about giving this book a chance, be warned that it will hook you in and leave you craving the entire series. Personally, it helped me overcome my reading slump and I couldn't be happier.

I finished this series and can’t believe I waited so long to read it. It was perfection.

Thank you NetGalley for the free arc.

I am now a fan of this series!

The story is captivating with a blend of romance, action, and humor. The characters are well-developed and relatable. I loved Katy, Daemon and Dee. Katy is such a relatable character and it really made the story much more enjoyable. Her dynamic with Daemon was intense and highly entertaining. I also just loved Dee. Such a big, happy personality from the moment Katy first met her. The world-building is intriguing, that had a thrilling plot that kept me hooked the entire time!

It is a highly entertaining book that is a must-read for fans of paranormal romance. I can't wait to get started with the rest of the series!

Thank you Entangled Publishing for a copy of this book!

I thought this book was an interesting take on aliens, something different than I've read before. I enjoyed that Katy was a book blogger and liked her and Dee's friendship. I won't get too into the book otherwise it will give stuff away, but this was a fun, quick read and I plan on reading the second book.

Thank you Netgalley and Entqngled Publishing for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

I had no idea what to expect when I volunteered for a read along of Obsidian. I’ve read other Jennifer Armentrout books before, but this is my first one about aliens.

Within the first few chapters we learn Katy has moved to West Virginia. She meets a new friend who turns out to be her neighbor, who just so happens to have a very hot brother Daemon!

Despite Daemon being hot he is kind of a jerk but Katy cant help but be fascinated by him. She can't pinpoint exactly what it was about him that has her so intrigued. As she is getting to know him inexplicable occurrences happen in his presence.

The intriguing narrative and well-developed characters left me yearning for more, and as I continued the read along it was fun to hear different perspectives on Daemon.

Soooo if you are looking for an adventure this is it! I’m excited to delve all the way into this series!

This book has definitely stood the test of time! There are moments of cringey early 2010s, but it is such a fond recollection of my high school days that I almost don’t mind it!

Compared to JLA’s more recent works, you can definitely catch the sass and hilarity and the strong female leads she is so well known for. Katy is the perfect teen lead: just flawed enough that she is realistic, but also so well rounded that you want to be her. She blogs, she gardens, she sasses stupid boys. Utter perfection. And Daemon? Such a typical bad boy exterior covering up a soft smoosh loving interior. They are the best pair. This book is such a fun small town teen romance. Oh. And there is aliens. This book is everything high school me would have ever wanted: fun, adventure, action, and a dash of love. This may have been one of the books that helped launch JLA’s career, but I will die on the hill of it being her best.

I loved this so much! I loved this the first time I read and it had so much fun rereading this. I love Katy and Daemon so much especially in the beginning. This has so much angst and I live for it.

I really enjoyed Obsidian, the first book in the Lux series. I read it years ago and again recently as part of a book club and will be re-reading the whole series. It’s the kind of book that you can get lost in and just enjoy the story as it unfolds. There are twists and turns that will have you guessing or ‘sitting on the edge of your seat’ but that’s what makes it so good. Katy (the main character) moves to West Virginia right before her senior year and meets her interesting neighbors, Daemon and Dee. Daemon is rude to her (and the reasons unfold as the story progresses) and Dee is an absolute gem. I love Katy’s spunk – she had me cracking up throughout the book. Thank you Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for the eARC!

I had a great time reading this book! It has an awesome paranormal world and a vast array of characters that keep the story wild and interesting. I can't wait to start the next book in the series!

In this first installment of the Lux series, we follow Katy Swartz a book blogging high schooler who recently found herself being the new girl in town after moving to a town in West Virginia to start over with her mom after loosing her dad. Shortly after arriving Katy meets Daemon Black- more like demon... if you catch my drift and if you’re a fan of The Vampire Diaries you might just find yourself thinking you just found the next Damon Salvatore, but I digress. While Daemon is easy on the eyes and may light a fire in your soul, his attitude might just extinguish it. After Katy finds herself in revolt of Daemon’s attitude. Katy runs into nonother than Daemon’s twin sister Dee. Dee is sweet, bubbly, and everything Daemon is not and wants nothing more to be Katy’s friend. And after meeting the Black’s, Katy’s life will be forever changed after she uncovers the mystery surrounding the Black’s and their triplet friends. The last thing Katy would have wanted or expected was to find herself stuck to Daemon in the fight of her life.

Obsidian is the perfect slow burn of enemies to lovers with a dose of thrill mixed into every chapter. I went into reading this book blind as I did not read the synopsis before joining the read-a-long and I’m so glad I did! Going into this book blind I was able to uncover the mystery that is Daemon and Dee Black and form a love for Katy who I can’t help but relate to with how book obsessed she is, and her sassy attitude that Daemon brings out in her is the best!

Thank you Entangled Publishing for providing me with an e-arc of the newly designed edition of Obsidian and the opportunity to participate in the read-a-long with others who love reading just as much as I do. I can’t wait to snag a copy of the beautiful hardcover when it comes out July 2nd.
