Stunningly illustrated, this heartwarming story with incidental diversity might bring tears to your eyes. What a great job the author and illustrator team did at portraying a child’s feeling of missing her dad during the work week as a storm cloud over her head. So atmospheric and poignant.
A heart-warming picture book about a young girl learning to cope with missing her father. Mandeep finds creative outlets for her sadness, and learns cloudy days are only temporary.
This is a sweet picture book with gorgeous artwork and colors, as well as important cultural touches through references to dance, jokes, meals. I can't wait to add this book to a display.
A heartwarming story about managing your emotions and strategies to take to work through them. Excellent for grades 2-3.
I loved this art style! I think this story does a great job at exploring sadness and that it's okay to feel sad when we are feeling alone or missing our family. The little jokes were so cute and age-appropriate. I also liked how the book showed that Mandeep coped by drawing and writing her dad postcards of her week.

Thank you NetGalley, Annick Press, and Kuljinder Kaur Brar for the early access copy of Mandeep’s Cloudy Days.
Mandeep’s Cloudy Days is the story of Mandeep's relationship with her father and her emotional experience when he starts a trucking job that takes him away from the home for several days at a time. Mandeep and her father's relationship is shown beautifully with quality time they spend together. Once he is away for work, Mandeep struggles with her emotions of the changes in her daily life and her missing her Dad. The illustrations depict a light and sunny colour palate when her father is around and a darker colour palate when he is away allowing the readers to understand Mandeep's emotional journey.
This story can be used as a great teaching tool for children who are struggling to express how they are feeling during "cloudy days."
Wow, what a beautiful, thought-provoking story! A young girl, Mandeep, loves her dad & their time together so much. They cook & eat their favorite meal together. They sip cha & share stories in the afternoon. They dance bhangra in the evenings & tell jokes together before bed. But what happens when her dad takes a new job where he will be traveling every day of the week & only home on weekends? The lyrical writing & descriptions paired with the emotive illustrations create a visceral experience for the reader. Mandeep's emotions leap off the page. Finally, Mandeep is able to pull herself out of the depths of sadness with her creativity, where the thunderstorms & rainclouds clear & she can feel the sunny rays once more. An absolute must-buy, must-read. Not only does this story explore the emotions of a child going through big changes & big feelings, it allows the readers to develop empathy, understanding, & acceptance. A very important read for our youth. The perfect read-aloud to develop social-emotional skills. We cannot wait to purchase this book for our family & to donate throughout our nonprofit.
This is a really lovely book about a girl having to deal with changes to her routine with her father. He takes a new job and is gone a lot and she misses him terribly, but doesn't know how to express those feelings and let's them bottle up.
She eventually learns to write them down and share them with him when he returns home. This helps her express what she's feeling while he is gone.
Beautiful illustrations too.
A great book to look at feelings of change.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
