This is a fun fantasy marriage of convenience/enemies to lovers graphic novel inspired by East Asian culture and palace dramas. This is only volume 1, so you primarily get a lot of setup for the worldbuilding and the tropes. I wasn't expecting a resolution, and I didn't get one - but absolutely fine for the first volume in a serial graphic novel story!

The art is beautiful, and there are plenty of mysterious allusions that will keep you guessing and coming back for more. This started as a Webtoon and looks like it will translate well to paper. Current fans will be happy - new readers will probably want the next installments right away!

This objective review is based on a complimentary copy of the novel.

Okay so I haven’t read a graphic novel since I was in middle school but this one stuck out to me on Netgalley. Firstly, thank you to @netgalley and @onipress for gifting me a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really quick read, I finished it in less than two hours and really enjoyed the break from traditional reading. As someone who hasn’t read a graphic novel in a while, it did take some getting used to in which panel to go to next, but once you get in the swing of things it was smooth sailing.

I really enjoyed the artwork and thought it was beautifully illustrated. Everyone is extremely attractive which I feel is the norm for graphic novels but I wished there was more diversity in body styles and looks of the characters.

This is a marriage of convenience between two rival clans who are descended from dragons after generations of war. The marriage is meant to broker peace, but not everyone is accepting of the war being over.

Our MMC, Kyro, is reluctant about his upcoming nuptials and looks down upon our FMC Clove, thinking her weak and “just like the rest”. I will admit she was a bit timid for my liking but we get glimpses of the fire that burns underneath her skin. I’m eager to see her develop and flourish in the upcoming volumes.

I wasn’t expecting a love triangle which was a bit shocking to see, as I wanted our Enemies to Lovers to be the main focus and I hope that storyline dissipates as the volumes go on.

Not much happened in Volume One but I equate it to the first 10 chapters of a traditional novel. This book sets up the rest which is just fine with me!

Art style is gorgeous (everyone is model hot though).
I wasn't a fan of the main FMC - Clove is a little timid for me.
The dragons and enemies to lovers premise is interesting.
I'm not really a fan of love triangles though. Was hoping the dragon prince would be the only one.
The narrative flow is a little choppy but thats often the case with graphic novels/manga.
I wish more had happened in the first installment.

Loved this comic! Amazing story and beautiful illustrations. The artwork is stunning, the colors are so vivid. And who doesn't love a good romance with dragons? Can't wait to see where the story goes in the next one. Definitely recommend picking this up!
