Thank you NetGalley and Oni press for this arc

-Enemies to lovers
-Arranged Marriage

I read this in one sitting because it's such a good story! It has a lot of plot twists, and you’re always entertained by every character. Being able to reread the dynamics, characters, and story reminded me how much I love SubZero.

I discovered SubZero on WEBTOON a few years ago when reading Lore Olympus and let me tell you within the first two or three chapters I was hocked and the book is the exact same. For all my readers out there who adore enemies to lovers SubZero is a perfect foray into graphic novels if you haven’t tried them yet. I’m so excited to finally see this being published in a physical format and I can’t wait to pick up my copy!

This was one of my favorites on Webtoons back in 2019, before I was a bookseller. Seeing it be adapted into a graphic novel makes me so happy and I'm excited to be back in the world again! I love the illustration style and the topics the novel discusses!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you. <3

I have to admit thtis isn't my typical ... trope / genre / style. BUT it was a quick, entertaining read.
id' definitely check out others by this author.

Each remaining descendant of the cerulean dragon line and the crimson dragon line will be forced to marry to prevent an ongoing brutal war between their people. However, that means they are forced to marry their sworn enemies. Princess Clove hasn't been giving in to her dragon form and might be concealing a tremendous amount of hidden power while the crimson dragon heir Prince Kyro might not notice it seems his dragon counterpart does. Alliances have yet to be formed but are already being tested in this volume and I am excited to see where both heirs are headed together and apart

Expect beautiful dangerous dragons!
Expect bad powerful characters!
Expect good artstyle!

But no, please don’t expect that enemies to lovers. Because you will get disappointed if you are expecting that from the first volume itself!

How strong is a king or a father if he has to pawn his daughter to save grace or the kingdom?

Yes, the ultimate sacrifice is to be the young weak daughter who has to marry the enemy monster.

Yes, expect strong talks but no action in this volume.

Hope there’s romance, action and more character & plot development in the upcoming volumes.

Thank you, Oni Press, for the ARC.

The art is lovely, and I enjoyed the storyline, though it felt very familiar. I am curious to see where this goes. I'll be checking it out on Webtoons while I wait for the next physical edition.

I don't have a lot to say one way or another, though, so I feel kind of bad this is my review for it.

Thanks to Net Galley and Oni Press for providing a free ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I had actually started reading SubZero on Webtoons about a year or two (maybe) ago, but dropped off mostly because of phone space (of all the silly reasons). I loved the story--a classic enemies to lovers with a healthy dash of arranged marriage, two of my fave tropes--and the art was always very beautiful. I was thrilled to see this was getting a print release, and as I have fallen very behind on the story, I can't wait to catch up with the next several volumes. Highly recommend this, even though I feel like they did stop Vol. 1 here a bit earlier than all the really exciting things I remember happening in this Webtoon. The bonus pages in the back were also a very fun addition.

I discovered SubZero randomly on Instagram a while back and it was my first ever Webtoon and it had me hooked from the first section. I love the absolutely gorgeous art work that Junepurr does, and when I saw it was getting published I ran to pre order it. This whole series will be on my shelf, and stay front and center.

I love how you get to see both POV of Clove and Kyro and the push / pull relationship they have with each other. Different kingdoms coming together to end a war through marriage with dragons mixed in, I mean come on sign me up. The character growth and world building are on point, including the side characters growth throughout the stories.

Review:

I loved this! I’ve read it as a webcomic but haven't reread the beginning in a while. I loved Clove. She takes no one's crap and is headstrong. I enjoy Kharis so much. She’s fun and I can't wait for more of her. I enjoyed Kyro, though he is a bit arrogant, so far anyway. He’s got a big ego, but I think he is kind. I do feel like there is more to each of the characters in this story, especially Clove and Kyro, and I can't wait to find out more about them. The art is beautiful, each character is unique and I love the dragons, they are well done. I also love the enemies to lovers, who also are trying to form an alliance and create peace for their people. I can't wait to see how it goes. This was a beautiful read.

I love this story! I really enjoyed the storyline and can’t wait to read more as the volumes are published. The artwork is ✨stunning✨ and I love the banter between the characters. Clove is a very interesting character and I can’t wait to find out her big secret. I also can’t wait to see the relationship grow between Clove and Kyro.

I will definitely be purchasing the physical copy and I can’t wait for volume 2!

I've read some of this comic before on webcomic and I am so happy to see that it is becoming an active publications. I'm a sucker for a good enemies to lovers and arranged marriage trope and this book has that. There is witty banter, there is intrigue and mystery, there are DRAGONS and after the current obsession with Fourth Wing I've had? It's been delightful to return to a dragon story that involves the dragons a bit more. Even the dragons are enemies. It is a great story and there is a lot of unknowns on the page about what happened to different people, what is happening to the dragon vessels, and what does everyone really want? Absolutely could not recommend this book more. Read it. You won't be disappointed.

Clove - the heir to the azure dragon - agrees to marry Kyro - the Crimson Dragon - in hopes to end the war between their nations. When she arrives in his kingdom, Kyro is both dismissive and intrigued. There is no question however that the tension between their dragons is real. Will court intrigue push these two together or tear them apart.

I can't get over the art in this story. There is so much intensity in the scenes and the story. I was so sorry to see the last page and immediately pre-ordered the print edition. Read this!

A good fantasy comic. There is humour and enemies to lovers, fairly troppy. I'm all for a strong, pivotal to the world, kind of woman.
It reads quickly, and the art style is easy to get situated in.

Everyone in this book has super pretty eyes. I was struck over and over again by how much the artist likes to draw eyes. That's not a complaint, eyes are cool. My favorite eye artist is Wendy Pini of Elfquest fame, and Junepurr's eyes are similarly awesome.

Story-wise, I think SubZero had a slow start. The characters didn't really come alive for me until towards the end of the volume. I think the premise, while a little trope-y, is interesting. With some more character work, future volumes will no doubt be stronger.

All-in-all this was good summer read.

I DNF'd this one at 40%

The art is pretty and vibrant with everything in colors, but the plot wasn't grabbing me. It felt very trope-y with this big war, a marriage and then the way the characters interacted. I was hoping the meeting between the prince and princess of the warring dragon clans would improve things, but again it just felt too typical and it just didn't keep my attention.

Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher and Author for an ARC of this work in an exchange for my review.

I enjoyed the story, whereby two warring clans with plans to end the war by bringing the Crimson Prince and the Azure Princess together in matrimony. The art is amazing. Each page a panel is a thing of beauty. I most especially loved the dragons.

It's a cheesy and goofy enemies to lovers romance. There's also greed and selfishness and skeletons in closets.

I would definitely pick up the next volume to see greater development in the characters and storyline.

Did I read this in one sitting.....yes I did! This is an incredible graphic novel and well worth the read! It has little bit of everything, romance, fantasy, and political intrigue to name a few. The characters are absolutely fantastic, and I can't wait to see them in further volumes! Also, the illustrations for this graphic novel are fantastic! I can't wait to purchase this for my library!
5/5

NetGalley Review

Star Rating: ★★★☆☆

Quick read. I enjoyed the art and am glad I read it, but wouldn't put it anywhere in my favorites section.

Like always though, read it and decide for yourself

Such a fun graphic novel! Perfect for fans of Avatar the Last Air Bender/Legend of Korra. Gave me similar vibes but with dragon shifters!
