The art in this was gorgeous, but the story didn't hook me. The dragon plot element is interesting but I don't care much for court intrigue, so I likely won't read the next volume.

I loved Kharis (the sister), she is a whirlwind and super cute, hope we get to see more of her!

The story itself is an easy read, Two magical kingdoms at war, have to come together through marriage for the sake of their people, but secrets and treachery promise more chaos. I liked it, I loved it and a MUST read and own for every fantasy lover.

Finally found a graphic novels with DRAGONSSSS!!! 🐉

‘Subzero’ follows Princess Clove as she agrees to marry her enemy—Prince Kyro—in order to stop a 300-year-war between the two kingdoms. There are numerous variables at play with many not wanting the marriage to bring piece while others are doing their best for the marriage to go ahead. The two main characters have a complicated relationship, their union is being tested by hidden secrets and it doesn’t help that there are those working from the shadows to bring ruin. This all comes together in an intriguing story.

Each character is uniquely presented; all harbouring secrets and twists to their lives that either laughing, swooning or feeling sorrow on behalf of the character.

Clove is represented as such a brave young woman who’s willing to put her people before her own happiness. She shows kindness to everyone and she is tactful. Yet she’s burned by her own grief. Kyra is a tormented prince who’s been burdened by the responsibilities of his past and present; ultimately annoyed by his current arrange marriage.

I also enjoyed Kharis’ character, she’s a bit of an enigma. Aaron was another interesting character, I look forward to seeing how his character fares, especially with dealing with his feelings for Clove.

The tension growing between the Prince, Princess and Aaron is interesting. It’s a question of who will the Princes choose, the bad boy or good boy?

The fantasy aspect of the plot draws you in, it’s mixed with the politics of the clans which keeps the reader engaged. This first volume has a great introduction of characters as well as the world-building, used more as a set up to the plot. Including humour, chemistry, action and varying dynamics.

Overall, a very good start to this graphic novel series. I can’t wait for the release of the second volume, I’m most anticipating it, seen as I found myself unable to put this first to one down. The art was done beautifully, with eye-catching detail. The artist definitely knew what they were doing when they created such dreamy characters in the male leads.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was an avid SubZero reader on webtoon, and to now see it in a published format, I am so beyond proud and thrilled for the lovely author. I’m so excited for September when it sees its release date, but until then I’ll be grateful for the ARC!

SubZero is a true enemies to lovers story, following rival heirs to the throne and whispers of an arranged marriage. Its tension filled and juicy and !!!!!

Wow, its everything. I had such a great time with it, and will (im)patiently wait for the next installment.

Thanks again to the publisher and netgalley for the e-ARC and letting me experience the joy of reading it for the first time again.

Thank you NetGalley and Oni press for this arc! 💙

Princess Clove agrees to marry her enemy, prince Kyro, to stop a 300-year-war between their kingdoms. With different entities that do not wish for this marriage to bring peace to these nations, the complicated relationship between the two main characters, and more characters that are working from the shadows, this proves to be an intriguing story.

I read this in one sitting because I could NOT put it down. The first volume of subzero had a great introduction for the characters and the world building. This volume was more of a set up for the entire plot than anything else, and it promises to be an epic tale. I loved the humor, as well as the chemistry and the different dynamics of these characters. Plus, the art was absolutely gorgeous and eye-catching. I can't wait to read more!

4 stars - It was really good

This volume collects chapters 1-25 of the Webtoon comic

To save her people, Princess Clove, the last remaining heir of the Cerulean Dragon clan, has agreed to marry her enemy, Prince Kyro of the Crimson Dragon Clan. Clove quickly realizes that this marriage is not going to be as straightforward as she was expecting because Prince Kyro has enemies in the palace that are determined to stop the peace treaty from continuing.

This was a beautifully illustrated and captivating story from the very beginning. Clove is a princess who is determined to save her people, even putting herself in her enemies hands while being terrified. While Clove may appear weak, she is in fact a very strong woman who is also traumatized by this 300 year old war. I like that we see her stand up for herself, even while she is terrified and expects to die. It made me like her so much more.

Kyro is the soon to be leader of the Crimson Dragon clan. He is a standoffish man who doesn’t want to be in an arranged marriage. I liked that while he is angry and abrasive, we can understand why he is that way as we learn about his past and the danger that surrounds him. There is a lot of tension between these two because they still don’t really know each other yet but are willing to go through with the marriage if it means peace. I am very interested in seeing how their marriage plays out and how they work together to take down the enemies that are trying to sabotage them.

Overall, I think this is a great start for a series and I can’t wait to read more. I am probably going to check this out on Webtoon’s just so I can find out what happens next because I don’t want to wait for volume 2.

TW: mentions of death of a parent, death of a sibling, and war

This is a marriage of convenience fantasy romance that was originally a webtoon and is now being published .

The art is absolutely amazing, stunning visuals. The story was interesting and I’m intrigued to read the rest of the series. I very much enjoyed the magic system/dragon shifting.

In this first book the main characters are not yet married, but they meet and are planning on having a marriage of convenience in order to bring peace to a 300 year long war.

Overall I had a good time with this book and I’m excited to read the rest of the series!

Two nations have been at war for three centuries. In an attempt to end it, a marriage is negotiated between the crown prince and princess of each nation, and she travels to his country. But not everyone wants the war to end and court intrigue is rife.

The crown prince Kyro is a red dragon and princess Clove is a blue dragon—or she’s supposed to be, only she’s never shifted. She can’t tell him though, as it would make her look weak in the eyes of the enemy. The two have a difficult start to their relationship as is. I didn’t really like her; her moods kept swinging from timid and intimdated to determined at oddest moments, which I found annoying. He was your typical angry war prince hating his circumstances.

This was a good start to a series, though I found my attention wavering a bit and I strated skimming. But the art was so beautiful that it more than made up for it. The story ends just as things were becoming interesting, but I don’t think I’ll read more.

I first read SubZero on Webtoons, and I still am as new chapters are being released. I fell in love with the series because of the art and the storyline. Enemies to lovers with arranged marriage is one of my favorite tropes, plus you add in dragons and I am hooked. When I learned SubZero would be receiving a physical copy I was super excited and I can't wait for more volumes to be released.

SubZero is the first volume of a graphic novel in which the princess Clove enters into an arranged marriage with prince Kyro in an attempt to heal the long enmity between their countries caused by years of war and the feuding of two dragon spirits --the Azure and Crimson dragons--that are passed down through the country's ruling lines. I actually read a portion of this story several years ago on WebToon and had a lot of fun revisiting it! I look forward to where the story goes! If you want an enemies to lovers angsty graphic novel this one is pretty fun, if you're okay with leaning into drama tropes! It does end in an odd spot but the good news is you can always hop over to WebToon and keep going. 4 stars.

I truly enjoyed the art style, the colors, the characters, and the storyline. I remember reading this webtoon when it first came out but never finished it. Glad I finally got a chance to read this. I love the drama between the Crimson dragons and Azure dragons. I love the romance brewing between Princess Clove and Prince Kyro. I also enjoy Prince Kyro's sister as well.

Excited for Volume 2 to see where the story goes.

I initially came across this webnovel series on WebToon, and wanted to see how it would appear in a graphic novel form. While a PDF is not the same as a physical book, it still gives me the idea of how it will look.
First, the artwork is amazing. The author does her own story plot AND drawings? Talk about talent!
Kyro and Clove are the Crown Prince and Princess of two warring factions, and an arranged marraige set up by Kyro's sister will hopefully bring peace between the two factions and end a centuries-long war. We don't get to the wedding day just yet in Part 1, but what leads up to it. There's enemies to what I hope will be lovers, and some very good banter. But you can feel the desire and the tension. I can't wait read more!

I remember reading the first bit of this story when it was first published on WebToon. I’m delighted to say that it holds up over time. The art style is gorgeous and the story is one I haven’t stopped thinking about for years. I just love the enemies to lovers/arranged marriage type stories. This is feeding my fantasy-romance soul.

3.5/5 - Thank you Oni Press and NetGalley for the ARC ebook!

I had a good fun time with this! I certainly enjoyed the plot as I don't think I have read something much like it. Originality using common tropes is always super refreshing! As for the characters, I don't see them as being super compatible, but hope that evolves as the series goes on. Love the color and art style, of course, but I would like to see more emotions from the characters (variety and physical depictions of). Clove always looks shocked/terrified and Kyro is always angry. I just want MORE from them! The plot is good, but execution could be helped by more world building and more accurate/realistic conversation flows. Sometimes the conversations are a little abrupt or the phrasing just doesn't seem natural to me. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

I absolutely adore everything about this story. I first read it years ago on Webtoon and to see it becoming a graphic novel that I’ll be able to purchase in hardcopy one day is so exciting!

The character development, the immersive plot, the drama, the suspense, the action! I love everything about this story. I want my own dragon 😭

I started reading this series years ago when it was on Webtoons and I am beyond thrilled its now becoming a published book! The characters are amazingly complex with baggage that is shown, not told. The art style is enchanting and the influences are even more lovely.
