I have to say, please read My Roommate is a Vampire first, because that is definitely necessary to fully enjoy and get the most out of Reggie’s story as he is introduced in the first book and will make you love and appreciate his story more!
I absolutely loved how our ridiculous and hilarious Reggie gets his opposite in buttoned up Amelia!
I also loved that we got some cameo’s of what comes next for Frederick and Cassie as I loved them and loved having them back in this story and sooo sooo glad that a third book in this series has been confirmed!!!
Honestly, if you go in for a good time, you will love this one if you don’t take it or yourself too seriously and just let it be what it is which is exactly what Jenna does so well, is just writing a fun paranormal romance with lovable vampires!
Thank you so much to PRHA for my gifted audiobook and Berkley for my gifted earc in exchange for my honest review!
note: this is the sequel to my roommate is a vampire. though this follows a different couple, i still recommend reading that one first!
amelia collins would consider herself successful. she has a good job and a good life. however, in her family’s eyes, she’s missing one thing: love. so, when the news of her cousin’s upcoming wedding is brought up, her family takes her sarcastic remark about having a boyfriend a bit too seriously…which leads to a fake-dating proposal with a strange man named reginald cleaves.
i really enjoyed my roommate is a vampire last year, and loved reggie as a side character, so i couldn’t wait to see him as the main character in this one! i loved getting to know him better and seeing how he interacted with the human world. also, something i loved about book one was how humorous it was, which i’m pleased to say also describes this book. the humor aspect kind of goes with what i was saying about reggie and the human world😉
i also loved amelia as a main character! she’s not the best at sticking up for herself, but i appreciated how she grew from this. she also didn’t set aside her career, though she did learn to make time for herself, which was nice to see.
i’d recommend this to anyone who enjoyed book one. i can’t wait for more from jenna levine!

My Vampires
If you haven’t noticed yet we are starting our spooky season reads early this year! Thank you so much Netgalley and Berkeley for this ARC! I loved book one of this series, and I was so stoked to receive an ARC for book two! This was better than book one somehow! Amelia needs a wedding date, and who is better for the job then strange Reginald Cleaves? Little does she know, Reggie’s on his own quest of pretending to be a human. This seems like the perfect thing for him to keep up his disguise. This book had some spice thrown in which yall know I love.. it was also really funny and cute. I especially loved all of the twilight and dungeons and dragons references. This is seriously the cutest romcom to kick off spooky season. If you haven’t read book one, My Roommate is a Vampire, I’m jealous because you can binge them both when this releases on 9/17. Will there be a book three? Praying! 🧛🩸
AAAAAHHHHHH!!!! GUYS THIS BOOK IS BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love everything. The banter, the romance. The fake dating!!! REGGIE!
This is one of my favorite books of the year. It’s such a feel good romance. I highlighted the majority of this book because it was just so stunning. I had to make myself stop reading because I had to get up for work the next day; a tragedy.
My Vampire Plus-One is beautifully written. Reggie and Amelia’s banter is hilarous. I giggled, kicked my feet, and swooned throughout reading this. I didn’t want it to end. Reggie just might be one of my top book husbands now.
And don’t worry! Cassie and Fredericks story continues in here too 🫶🏻 I loved seeing Frederick and Reggie’s relationship and little texts between them. OH! And Reggie’s journal entries 🥹 MY HEART MELTED (just wait until you guys read this!!!)
Also do you SEE how GORGEOUS the cover is?!? 😍 I’m definitely buying the paperback to have it on my shelf.
If this is what love is supposed to feel like, I’m not stopping until I find it 💕 Definitely go pick this one up September 17th!
Thank you to Jenna Levine and Netgalley for this arc!
THIS BOOK. I had to sit on it for a few days just to get my thoughts together. I think this is the very rare case of a reverse second book syndrome, where Book 2 of the series is BETTER than the first, and in this case, better by FAR.
The first book was OK for me, but was more of an average read. I wasn’t blown away, but had enough interest in the series to continue.
It truly feels like the author took all the feedback from the first book, both positive and constructive, and intentionally went into crafting this book with that feedback in mind. And the author set up a couple challenges for herself here as well, particularly having an MMC (Reginald/Reggie) introduced in a fairly poor light in the first book becoming a believable main love interest and main character in this one. But BOY, did she absolutely nail this.
When I think of Reggie, I think of a mix of Bones from the Night Huntress book series and Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, particularly Spike’s Billy Idol, slayer rampage era. This is a character who is witty, sarcastic, irreverent, uncaring (seemingly) and so on. It’s such a hard character archetype to get right, because it can easily tip the scale overboard and make it unbelievable for the character to truly care and love, and therefore work as a romance lead. But the author got this balance soooooo right. Reggie’s character was magic, and his relationship with Amelia, the 34-year-old accountant FMC, brought out the best in his character, and was the catalyst for his immense character development.
Amelia was also a well-written, well-rounded character. I wouldn’t say this is a true reverse grumpy x sunshine because I wouldn’t classify Amelia as grumpy, more so reserved and introverted. I wouldn’t even say black cat x golden retriever either, although that may be closer.
It’s Amelia’s circumstances and a chance meet-cute (crash-cute?) that’s the driver for the fake dating plot line between her and Reggie, although the ploy also helps out Reggie’s underlying unfinished history of problems as well.
The romance between Amelia and Reggie was sweet and steamy both, and I really appreciated the balance of each. Trust played a large role between them, and respect as well. Reggie listened to Amelia where others had ignored her before, and Amelia helped Reggie to understand his value and place in the world when before it was unsettled and unknown.
I do wish was that the ending was stronger, though. I felt that the storylines being developed through the book wrapped up too quickly and easily, as well as the ending in general feeling too quickly paced.
I also wish we learned more about Reggie’s long, storied, and colorful history overall. We got tidbits and hints here and there, but I was dying to know more and uncover more of his past. Especially with how his past and the current plot were connected. I think there’s extreme potential for a second book about this same couple to extend and resolve the plot. I would say this ends with a HFN, and it was be awesome to see the author end this saga with a more definitive and satisfying close. Although this would be acceptable as a HEA if we end up not getting anything else!
Other than those two reasons, this would’ve been 5 stars. Easy.
If you’re a lover of human x vampire romance, contemporary paranormal setting, irreverent, extroverted MMC x serious, introverted FMC, and fake dating, this read should be a real treat!
Many thanks to 2netgalley @prhaudio and @berkleyromance for the free digital and audiobook copies. Below is my honest review of this witty, quirky vampire rom-com.
Amelia Collins is a hyper-focused and extremely successful tax accountant, so when she finds out her cousin is getting married and there’s about to be a month of couples-based wedding activities, she has two options: (a) listen to her family worry about why she doesn’t have a boyfriend or (b) convince someone to be her fake boyfriend to keep her family at bay. So when she crosses paths with an odd but handsome stranger twice, she asks, and he agrees because it sounds like just the kind of crazy that could be fun. That stranger turns out to be Reginald Cleaves, the quirky, joke-cracking, and always-ready-for-a-good-time VAMPIRE we first met in My Roommate is a Vampire. While they fake-date their way around Chicagoland, Amelia uncovers the depths that Reggie covers with humor, and Reggie helps Amelia see that her life doesn’t need her family fixing it.
Do you ever encounter an author whose humor clicks in your brain? Jenna Levine is one of those authors for me. This series, like Assistant to the Villain, does not take itself too seriously and is a really effective, fun rom-com that will absolutely make you smile. I'd been waiting for Reggie's opportunity to take center stage since he appeared in My Roommate is a Vampire, as he stole every scene he appeared in. I adore that none of the vampires in this story are dark, ominous villains. They are odd, quirky, caring, and sometimes pretty obtuse. The book is a dual POV that includes lots of text and email exchanges and a look inside Reggie’s brain through his attempts at journaling for self-improvement.
The audiobook is narrated by Daniel Henning and Helen Laser, two rock stars in audiobook narration.
This is exactly like book one in that it was so boring it put me to sleep three separate times but unlike book one, the characters were also so flat I thought they were my new kindle stickers.
We met Reggie in the previous book and I was so excited to get his own book and see through his eyes because he had a great little personality but jokes on me because that doesn’t exist here. Nothing about Reggie is true from book one to now, and I need to see the thought process in making his character so unappealing. There’s the fact that he’s being hunted by “The Collective” and yet they can’t find him because he wears normal clothes???? Maybe it’s been too long since I read a silly goofy vampire novel but what the fuck do you mean?
Then there’s Amelia, who is the archetype of an accountant: single boring cat lady who (for some reason) is in her 30s but can’t stick up for herself to her parents. Spoiler: the reason is because Reggie gives her the strength to do it since he cared from the beginning 🙄
I can do a lot of cliches and silly times, but the characters have to be worth the cliche and silly times and these two definitely aren’t.
4⭐️ Thank you so much to Berkley Romance for the NetGalley ARC!🫶🏻
I really enjoyed My Roommate Is A Vampire last year, and this was no exception! I liked this one just as much, and was such a great interconnected standalone. It was so fun to see the MCs from the first book again, but our main couple Reggie and Amelia were so cute and I really liked their relationship!
All in all, this book (and the first) are both such great fall reads and funny romcoms. I definitely recommend!
Let me start by saying Fredrick from the first book in this series was my FAVVVV I loved that man/vampire and I was hoping for an equally unique love interest in Reggie, but I found him to be a bit lacking. He was eccentric and a bit of a prankster, but there was so much alluded to with his character and so little of it we actually saw play out on the page that it ended with him feeling a bit two-dimensional. Amelia is a proud accountant and while I understand so little of accounting, I did like seeing her passion for tax codes and I love how it played a major role in the third act:) Speaking offff no third act break up!! Let's go!! All in all, a solid vampires-exist-and-oh-no-I'm-fake-dating-one rom-com, but it didn't blow me away (let's be real I also wanted more Fredrick)
Thank you Berkley and NetGalley for the ARC.
This book is the perfect spooky season romance! This cute story makes for a great cozy romcom that had me laughing so hard. Both main characters are so interesting in their own rights and really stood their own. The fake dating trope is always a favorite of mine, and this did not disappoint on that front. The romance was so sweet and the MMC was such a softie, I loved it!
Who knew vampire drama could be so fun?

This was such a cute and fun read! Amelia was such a relatable character for me (she’s an accountant/CPA and I’m about to graduate in accounting too hehe) and I know all about losing yourself in work that it literally leaves you with no time for yourself! I loved that Reggie helped her see that she should enjoy life more than just her work, and he was seriously the sweetest and acts of service MMC! 😍
The way he made sure he had Amelia taken care of and made sure she was more than satisfied in their spice scenes was 🥵😍 Reggie was also my favorite character from this book! His growth, vampire background, and his vulnerability about his past with Amelia made my heart ache 😭
This wasn’t everything I wanted from this book (I felt like it could have given more depth and character development from the FMC) but it was still an enjoyable read and perfect to pull you out of a reading slump in my opinion! ☺️
Thank you NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC!
"My standards aren't high. I'm just asking for a few hours of your time, not for your hand in marriage. After the wedding, you'll never see me again. As for why I'm asking you specifically—" "You're asking me because you find me devastatingly handsome and irresistibly charming," he deadpanned. "Right?"
Jenna Levine second standlone novel, My Vampire Plus-One, featuring a vampire hero is equally hilarious, fun, and absolutely swoony as her first in the My Vampires series, My Roommate Is a Vampire. If you’ve read My Roommate Is a Vampire then you’re already familiar with Reggie, Frederick’s best friend and general pain in his butt. Reggie’s love interest is Amelia, an accountant (the actual kind not the social media kind) whose no-nonsense kind of life doesn’t lend itself well to dating.

Reggie and Amelia’s meet cute is the kind of scene in romance that make me want to kick my legs in the air and squeal as I clutch the book to my bosom. I adore the charm and awkwardness that Reggie brings as a character and what makes it even better is how Amelia cannot figure out how a hottie like Reggie is so dang strange. When Amelia’s family relentlessly nags her about dating, she puts herself in a bind when she mentions a boyfriend and a plus-one to an upcoming family wedding.
Normally, I was physiologically incapable of finding anyone wearing a suit in my building attractive, ever. But seeing Reggie in a suit...It was a crime, honestly, that he ever wore anything else.

You know exactly where this is going. Amelia asks Reggie to be her fake date which then leads to multiple appearances. Nothing like an engagement dinner, or dinner with the family to really make this fake dating seem real! The only issue is that Reggie is also attempting to hide in plain site from a league of vampires who would rather see Reggie dead and gone than undead and in a happily ever kind of relationship.
Hijinks reach an all-time high when both Reggie and Amelia begin to catch real feelings in their fake relationship. With appearances from both Frederick and Cassie, along with a getaway to a cabin in the woods during a snowstorm, plus a confrontation that made me in awe of Amelia’s strength and ingenuity, My Vampire Plus-One is equally as unputdownable and enjoyable as it’s predecessor.
"But for you, I would brave a blizzard just to see you smile."
I adore this premise, the lore, and the setting in urban Chicago. I cannot get enough of these characters and the hilarity that ensues with each new set of characters. I hope there is more to come. I eagerly await more. Do yourselves all a favor and make sure My Vampire Plus-One is on the tippy top of your reading list for Spooky Season this fall!
4.5 stars!
I took way too long to finally read this arc! But I’m so glad I finally did! I had such a good time and couldn’t stop laughing! Not typical of the type of romance books I read, but I’ll be giving this author another go!
Amelia and Reginald have such an endearing and quirky love story.
As with “My Roommate is a Vampire” this book had me belly laughing on multiple occasions. The visuals of Reggie’s outfits and the antics they get into together kept me engaged and generally delighted throughout the entire story.
The use of the miscommunication trope was brilliantly executed and created so many moments of unmatched humor. I couldn’t help but fall in love with these characters.
The only critique I really have for this book is the ending felt a bit rushed. I wanted more time after the resolution and even a bit more from the conflict itself. Other than that, this was a fantastic book.
I’m so excited to read more by this author!

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Amelia Collins, a successful and independent woman, is tired of her family’s constant questions about her love life. To escape the pressure, she enlists the help of a fake date, none other than Reginald Cleaves, a centuries-old vampire trying to blend in with humans (and escape from a weird old-timey vampire coven that suspects him of an egregious crime). As they spend time together, their fake relationship starts to feel real, and Amelia realizes that Reggie is far more loyal and kind than she initially thought.
This was such a fun, quirky read. Jenna Levine’s strength is in her banter, and it continues to shine in My Vampire Plus-One. Vampire romance is certainly not a new subgenre, but Reggie really stood out because of his unique brand of eccentricity. He’s not odd because he’s antiquated and twitchy, he’s odd because he wears giant fur coats and loves practical jokes. He is protective of Amelia but not stifling, and his attentiveness is super sweet. Loved!
I liked the idea, but the banter felt forced, and the vampires didn't quite come into focus as believable. Though I really liked the idea. Finally, I might just be too old, because I could predict every beat of the story before it happened. I'm just not the audience here, I fear.
MY VAMPIRE PLUS-ONE by Jenna Levine is such a fun, feel-good, wild ride! Amelia, a busy accountant in the midst of tax season, needs to get her family off her back about her dating life. To do so, she pretends to have a boyfriend—and that she’s bringing him to an upcoming family wedding. Enter: Reginald (Reggie) Cleaves, a vampire who agrees to be Amelia’s pretend boyfriend. But the wedding is filled with pre-wedding activities, requiring Amelia and Reggie to spend more time together. And what a fun time it is, from a family gathering to being snowed in together to having to help save Reggie from a group of vampires after him.
Jenna had me laughing from the meet cute, which is hilariously sweet. Reggie is an earnest, individualistic sweetheart, and Amelia is a risk-averse, logical delight. And the addition of mixed media elements is so fun! There’s everything from meeting notes, excerpts from Vampiric Lore, bullet journal entries, texts, and discord server messages.
Add to your TBR is you love fake dating, charming vampires, being snowed in with said charming vampires, bullet journaling, family drama, and judgmental cats.

Thank you to Berkley Romance and NetGalley for the advanced copies in exchange for my honest opinion.
After rave reviews from one of my best friends, I dove into My Vampire Plus-One as soon as I could. Jenna Levine has a delightful way of making a vampire book not just romantic but laugh-out-loud funny and endearingly cute. This book was a lot of fun! I never thought I’d say this, but I found myself wanting a bit more conflict or drama, especially towards the end, and maybe not tax law as the main threat. That said, the fake dating trope was handled perfectly, and I loved the glimpse of Frederick and Cassie from book one—it was great to see them again.
Reggie was such a standout character, and I’m so glad we got his story. His attentiveness to Amelia, especially regarding her dietary needs, was so sweet, even if his food combinations were a bit odd. The bullet journaling ladies were absolutely hysterical with their quirky advice, adding another layer of charm to the story. While Amelia’s family wasn’t my favorite, I appreciated how her journey wrapped up.
This book might not be my new favorite in the genre, but it was an absolute joy to read. It was funny, heartwarming, and exactly what I needed in a read. I’d definitely recommend it to friends looking for a light, entertaining book that guarantees a good time.
A cute, silly, highly entertaining (and funny) fake-dating romance... with vampires! The banter is adorable, the main character is terrific, and the love interest is a messy vampire who loves nothing more than a good practical joke (plus history discussions). This book is a great choice for a reader looking for something light and silly.
As a workaholic CPA, Amanda Collins had little to no life outside of her demanding job. Even her cat gives her stink eye for never being home. Amanda’s large and interfering family feels she sadly is unattached because she has no man to call her own with few prospects of one. In desperation for the next family wedding, Amanda gets the oddly quirky Reginald Cleaves to be her fake boyfriend to get her parents off her back. It seems those parents really do not know Amanda well, or pay attention to her needs.
What Amanda does not know about Reggie is that he is a two-hundred-year-old vampire still caught up in the Victorian lifestyle. Reggie is also on the run from a ruling Council who is out for blood, most specifically his. Reggie is rather over the top even for a vampire especially compared to his best friend, Frederick Fitzwilliam, whom readers will recognize from the previous book, MY VAMPIRE ROOMMATE. Amanda and Reggie begin their relationship with a few miscommunications not surprisingly including his true nature as she thinks he was joking.
While I enjoyed the previous story, this one just felt like a repeat without the fun and entertaining aspects of the first book. Cassie was a much more enjoyable protagonist while Amanda seems to embody all the cliches about accountant-type numbers people. Reggie is rather silly and what worked before in the earlier story as his role in Frederick’s life does not do so here. So readers who are in the mood for silly and predictable, will enjoy this book.
