The first thing I will say about this book is the title is a little misleading. It actually felt kind of depressing to me. In a nutshell, each story ends with "this animal is severely endangered" after a short story full of interesting facts about that animal.
But what worked for me? Well:
- The drawings were minimalistic, yet still beautiful.
- I enjoyed the tips to get involved that were included at the end.
- I definitely learned some things!
What would I change?:
- If this was intended for kids, I would make it more kid-friendly. By that I mean including some facts, but not obscure facts that kids won't understand or too many facts that will overwhelm readers.
- Try to make each story a little more uplifting, rather than just focusing on endangerment.
“Happy Stories for Animal Lovers” is a story of hope for human interactions with the animals of our planet. Leisa Stewart-Sharpe takes the reader on a Grand Tour as we learn about a variety of species being studied and helped by humans. My favorite is the story about the narwhal who has joined a pod of belugas.
The illustrations are playful and match the tone of the text. These short stories are uplifting and leave the reader wondering why we don’t hear more about these efforts.
This book is great for kids who love all kinds of animals or nature. It might also be good for kids who are old enough to understand there are some bad things that happen in the world and, thus, feel a little down. This story will make them feel better about the things humans do.
I received an advance review copy for free from NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This picture book features animals from around the world whose species have experienced positive conservation efforts. The stories are told as verse-ish narratives and are supported with factual information. Folks of all ages will enjoy hearing these happy stories and engaging in the conservation efforts discussed at the end.
What a gorgeous book. My boys are massive animals lovers and this book was prefect to read to them. From stories from around the world 🌎 and beautiful illustrations this book is pure magic.
I will definitely be picking this one up for my new nephew to have in his library. So he can explore the beautiful stories.
My personal favourite was the friends in frozen places.
This was such a beautiful and happy read to learn about some amazing creatures with information that I didn't previously know,
Taylor Swifts new album on repeat, reading the boys some new kids books I got advanced copies of, and the sun is shining….a happy Friday in my book! ☀️📚🎶
These books were so cute! I can’t wait to show my daughter the bug book as she’s been really interested in ladybugs lately. The Happy Stories for Animal Lovers was absolutely adorable! It was full of such beautiful illustrations and fun facts about animals. The Pond and the Park was a really adorable story about friendships. Respect the Insect book was very interesting to my son who has been hesitant with flies coming inside. Hee hee. He always really enjoyed Little People Big Dreams about Stan Lee and comics. My daughter is going to love Gabriel’s Toothfairy Tale as she’s been waiting anxiously for her tooth to fall out. Torla and Smorla was a really cute book my younger song loved. The Bison and the Butterfly was precious! Add these books to your kids summer TBR lists for summer reading programs. Thank you @netgalley for these advance copies!

This is not very well written in my opinion. The writing style is all over the place, sometimes trying to sound poetic or like a classic children's book, sometimes straight up educational/informational, and none of it is very smooth to read. It was so short and accompanied by pretty drawings, but I still struggled a lot to keep my focus, because the writing was chaotic and choppy
This book was a bit different than what I expected. I thought that it will be closer to a collection of tales, but it managed to combine a story-like vibe with real-life details about the animals. I also really enjoyed its positive take.
I really liked the visuals, the book has very colourful illustrations. The stories are collected from different regions and they have an educational take. Everything is presented in a cute, kid-like way, but the topic is rather serious, raising awareness about the efforts of conserving different species. The vibes are also rather poetic for the book's genre and age group and the animals are described in a very human-like way. The recommendations mentioned in the end of the book were also great! The only downside was that some of the details might be a bit too complex to understand for the age group.
This is such a beautiful and interesting book that takes you on a journey around the world to explore a variety of fauna. There is so much to be learned from each of the stories and the accompanying illustrations are magical. Text is fun to read and full of onomatopoeia! A great book about the importance of nature.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
This is a wonderful book. It takes a peek into extraordinary animals and gives us insight into their world. Some of the selected animals had gone extinct, but through hard work by humans, they have been brought back and are thriving in their natural habitats. I love the pictures accompanying the animals and appreciate where their stories have come from worldwide. As an animal lover, I am always concerned about the extinction of various species. Sadly, many species of animals are hunted and poached for selfish reasons, mainly for money. I would use this in my speech sessions working on a variety of goals. The vocabulary is also a bonus as this book can be used for younger groups or older groups of kids. At the end of the book, kids will find additional activities to do, as well, as fun tasks that can be done with each animal presented, such as; tracking migration habits or watching webcams of beavers in their natural habitat. Websites are included. Remember we need to speak for animals that can not speak for themselves to protect them from harm.
I want to thank #netgalley and #QuartoPublishingGroup for the opportunity to review this title
The perfect book for your little animal enthusiast. Encourage your child’s interest and passion for animals with this book which is full of real life stories about animals and the importance of conservation.
The illustrations are just perfect for this book. They are delicate and delightful throughout.
This is a book I would say suits independent chapter readers but would also be a fantastic family read.
