This is, quite possibly, the most boring book I have ever made it through. Did it help that I forced myself to finish the first and second book in the series? Yes, to an extent. It laid the ground work for what this book was about. But this book is really just filler for maybe another book in the series? The first half of this book is about Caroline and the decision to send her to a new school. The actual time spent at the school – maybe a chapter? There is very little about the school; it served for her to meet a few classmates and spend time with them. Then an accident happens with her father’s family and a little is mentioned about that, only so they can bring Boston back into the story. Nothing really happens. It’s a waste of time and money. Please let VC Andrews rest in peace and leave the rest of her story ideas unpublished. She deserves better.
I was really hoping this book would end the series with a bang, but alas it sped up and then seemed to just lull out. It did have closure to this series but not in a big way. I've been reading VC books for years and know the deal so I have to and will keep reading.
Thank you to Netgalley, Gallery books and the Author V.C. Andrews for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am pretty sure I’ve read every single VC Andrews book in existence. I started reading them when I was a young teenager and never stopped. I have never been disappointed in the books, and I’m still not!
Caroline’s mother sadly passes away. Her father is already moving on with a new marriage and when Caroline is with her father and their new family, an almost tragedy strikes. So Caroline goes on to live with her super strict controlling grandfather and decides to try to win over his love. She has to basically compete with her uncle in order to do so. Everywhere Caroline turns is tragedy. Will she win the love of a grumpy old man? Will she find her happiness?
V..C. Andrews has written family drama for years. I remember the Flowers in the Attic series when I was a teen and anything by V.C. brings nostalgia. When her mother dies, Caroline is forced to live with her domineering grandfather who she barely knows. Caroline is one determined, strong character.
Dreaming of Autumn Skies
by V.C. Andrews
Pub Date: Oct 22 2024
I didn't realize "Dreaming of Autumn Skies" was the third book of the Sutherland Series when I first started to read the story as I haven't read the first two books. I picked this book as I am a fan of V.C. Andrews Flowers in the Attic's 1979 Gothic novel. This book told the story of Caroline who came from a wealthy family and has been sent to live with her grandfather after her mother died tragically also she almost drowned when living with her father’s new family. The book was good but in my opinion didn't compare to her earlier books.
Synopsis: A young girl does whatever’s necessary to take back her agency when she is sent to live with her controlling grandfather in this atmospheric novel.
Many thanks to #NetGalley, #GalleryBooks and Dreaming of Autumn Skies for providing me an E-ARC of this book.
This is the third book of the Sutherland Series and since I had read the first two, naturally I had to read this one. This is not a stand alone read - you need to read the first two to have the history and make sense of what is happening.
Description:
A young girl does whatever’s necessary to take back her agency when she is sent to live with her controlling grandfather in this atmospheric novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Flowers in the Attic and the Landry series—now popular Lifetime movies. With her mother deceased and her father remarried, Caroline is forced to live with her domineering grandfather. But having endured so much loss and cruelty in her young life, she is determined to not let her suffering to have been in vain. Soon, Caroline embarks on a campaign to reclaim her own power and win over the most influential person in her family. But when she finds herself in a heated rivalry with her uncle as they compete for her grandfather’s favor, Caroline stops at nothing to build the life—and the independence—she so desperately dreams of.
My Thoughts:
Of the three books, the second one was my favorite of the three so far. This family has a lot of secrets and I think there are more to come. Caroline has learned some very hard lessons to be as young as she is, and some of those lessons are hard-won. She's trying to please her grandfather and become a Sutherland, but he's a hard man to please. Her cousin is having mental problems and Caroline is trying to be supportive for him, but she really can't trust him. There is a lot of family history, mostly bad that she is learning. This book ended fairly abruptly and I'm sure there will be another one to come. This is not my favorite series, but it is definitely interesting.

DREAMING OF AUTUMN SKIES
V.C. Andrews
I have a complicated relationship with my grandfather. I sometimes think fondly of the memories we had when he was alive. When he was well. At other times, I am conflicted. An alcoholic for most of his life. When he wasn’t in his recliner drinking beer, he was in the garden, and that is where I remember him on my best days.
Caroline, too, has a complicated relationship with her grandfather. He wants her to be someone she isn’t—someone she cannot be. It’s not a matter of trying harder, of doing more, of staying out of trouble. It is a matter of being who she is.
She would do anything to be golden in her grandfather’s eyes. And she is not the only one. Her uncle too would like to be on his good side. There are many benefits to being there. We follow along as Caroline returns home to her grandfather’s estate to claim her spot among his favorites.
I am the last person to know that Andrews is not writing these books. When I requested DREAMING OF AUTUMN SKIES it was under the pretense of reading something in the same vein as FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC, which I recently read and loved. However, this book is written by Andrew Neiderman. In fact, he has been writing in her name since 1986, when she died of breast cancer.
He has written a lot of books under her name, FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC was not one of them. I did not have the same success with DOAS as I did with FITA. To say I am disappointed to find all of this out is an understatement.
I did not connect with the material, and it felt flat. There was little intrigue, and nothing was grabbing my attention. I read it twice convinced I was missing something. What I was missing was V.C.’s writing. Now I know.
I gave DREAMING OF AUTUMN SKIES three stars for its lackluster plot and its easily dismissible characters. I do not recommend it, and I feel there are plenty of other titles coming out this month that I would spend my time on.
Thanks to Netgalley and Gallery Books for the advanced copy! I’m sorry this one didn’t work for me.
DREAMING OF AUTUMN SKIES…⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dammit, it's been awhile since my most recent V.C. Andrews fix. Well this book will "fix" that!
I think I’m done with the books from the V.C. Andrew’s universe. There wasn’t anything specifically wrong with this book, it’s just predictable and hard to keep attentive to. I think this series is better off for someone who hasn’t read so many other V.C. Andrew’s titles.
I’ve been reading V.C. Andrews books for as long as I can remember. And although they are now being written by a ghostwriter named Andrew Neiderman, he does not disappoint. Dreaming of Autumn Skies is the 3rd book in his new Sutherland series. In this book, Caroline returns to Sutherland after a brief visit with her father and his new family in Hawaii. Things didn’t go well there so she is sent back to Sutherland to be looked after under the watchful and controlling eye of her grandfather. But this story ended with a whole other twist. Caroline slowly worked her magic by warming her grandfathers heart by acting all Sutherland in which resulted in many changes at the mansion and for the family. This change was as drastic as the color change of leaves in an Autumn sky. I really enjoyed reading this new series and would love to read more about these characters perhaps in future stories. I’d like to thank Lucy Nalen @ Simon & Schuster for responding to my request to be an early reader and for sending me the link to read it. I’m rating this book at 5 stars and I hope to read more by V.C. Andrews very soon!
This is the 3rd book in the Sutherland series. Caroline is all on her own after losing her mom and her dad gone to another family. Caroline is set to live with her grandfather. Will she be able to convince him that she is worthy of love and belonging? Really enjoyed this one. I could see it on tv.
I have been a fan of V.C. Andrews since I was a child reading Flowers in the Attic so having the opportunity to review this novel was a huge honor! The book is the third novel in a series, so if you haven’t read those, I would check them out first! I had not read the previous books before reading this, but it was easy enough to follow. I went back after finishing it and read those though! Overall, I think the book was well written and very on theme for a V.C. Andrews’ novel. I think if you enjoy her writing style, you will enjoy this book too!
I love this series!!!!!
Entertaining, descriptive, well-written, and my oh so very intriguing! I continue to be highly invested in the characters and the wonky family dynamics!
“Dreaming of Autum Skies” is the third book in the Sutherland Series with Caroline’s story picking right up where we left off in “Chasing Endless Summer”. Similar to the 1st two books in the series, "Dreaming of Autum Skies" easily works well as a stand alone novel.
From the start, I loved having the opportunity to follow Caroline’s as she continues to live in mayhem, while trying to find herself and her place and purpose in the world. The loss of her monther, her mother's partner, her father who will not accept her, her cousin is not himself, a new housemaid who somethimes you think is wise, while other times cruel, and a grandfather of continual psychological deceiption and lack of transparency, only makes it harder on her as she finds her place.
I (impatiently) will wait for the next in this series!
Thank you to both NetGalley and Gallery Books for providing me the opportunity to review "Dreaming of Autum Skies" prior to publication. I am appreciative and leave my review voluntarily.
Dreaming of autumn skies 🍂
I enjoyed this book..
I honestly feel if you don't read the first 2 books in this series you will get lost.
I have read them all.
Carolina,
Finds so much about her family in this third book. Reason why her grandfather is so hard on everyone.
Family can be so hard. Trying to live like so many generations before.
Carolina, is such a strong young woman.
For me V.c.andrews books are great I've been reading them for many years.
I enjoy the writer who is doing these stories now.
I'm always looking forward to new books Releasing...
Caroline's life changes when she is moved from Hawaii to live under the domineering authority of her grandfather. Under the watchful eye of grandfather at Sutherland mansion, she is given the responsibility of her cousin Simon. Simon's knowledge of the Sutherland mansion threatens to expose secrets his grandfather wishes to hide. Simon begins to develop conflicting personalities after the death of a family member. Caroline becomes a true Sutherland as she holds evidence of the family secrets that could expose her grandfather thanks to Simon.
V.C. Andrews is a favorite author whose I enjoy reading her many books. She delivers another favorite when Caroline is taken from Hawaii and placed at the Sutherland mansion of dark family secrets. I love her newest work of fiction and highly recommend it.
I always enjoy V. C. Andrew’s books and this one was no exception. There are always twists and turns you never expected. This book was no exception.
VC Andrews wrote a coming of the age story of a young woman who rises above all obstacles thrown her way. I did not read the first book of this series, but I didn’t really find myself lost. However, I did find the storyline a little flat at times, overall, it was an okay read for me.
I want to thank the publisher and Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book was gripping and hard to put down. It didn't feel like everything else you see out there, it felt very fresh. I really enjoyed this book!
This book filled me with so much nostalgia! When I was twelve I was obsessed with VC Andrews. This mystery pulls you right into it and kept my attention. Four stars for a fun and fast read.
I received a free copy of, Dreaming of Autumn Shies, by V.C. Andrews, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book three in The Sutherland Series. This is the first book I read in the series, actually. Caroline feels like she is on her own, with the loss of her mother, and her father already moved on to another marriage, Caroline is sent to live with her grandfather. Caroline is independent and plans to stay that way, she wants to win over her grandfather, will she be able to is the question. A wonderful read, by a wonderful author.
