I really enjoyed this book! The idea of an open marriage explored through the characters’ personal dilemmas and the shift from a seemingly perfect arrangement to a complicated affair was gripping. The transformation of the protagonist’s relationship with Marcus and the way her involvement with Kieran leads to unexpected complications kept me on edge. The suspense escalates as Erin goes missing and the stakes rise beyond just the protagonist’s marriage. The twists and turns made for an engaging read, and I found the unraveling of secrets and the consequences of broken rules particularly compelling.
This was just a wild ride and you'd expect it to be based on the title. I found the story to be odd and intriguing along with a bit of thriller and mystery thrown in for good measure.
We see our main character stagnant in her marriage. She's middle-aged (oh, the horrors of being 44) and only seven years into her marriage. Something just isn't right between her and her husband.
When a woman our main character meets in yoga class sings the praises of her own open marriage, well... you can see where this goes.
There were more twists than I expected, but I was also left with a few unanswered questions.
However, I thought the premise was different from what's out there and I saw it as a popcorn thriller when all was said and done.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an e-copy of THE OPEN MARRIAGE to review.
I rate THE OPEN MARRIAGE four out of five stars.
First, I want to thank Victoria Jenkins, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.
WOW!! When I found out Victoria Jenkins wrote a book with the title The Open Marriage and read the description I just knew I had to read it. I mean how can you not with that title right? With the title The Open Marriage I was a little disappointed at the lack of spice. Many may not agree with me but that concept could have gone a little farther than it did.
If Louise said I’m fine one more time I was going to seriously scream!! She drove me absolutely bonkers!!
Victoria picked out the most unique out of the box names for her characters-I just loved them.
I enjoyed the book. It was fast paced, kept my attention, was a binge readable one sitting type book, and had a lot of wicked twists and turns to it. In fact the climax of the book I never in a million years saw coming. Oh so many ups and downs in this book!
Victoria should really consider writing a follow up book to this one as there are a few open ended storylines that can be explored. That would be a fun read as well.
Ah I really enjoyed this one! This was full of plot twists and really made me doubt what I thought I knew as I read on. Full of secrets and betrayal as I read on, and the perfect thriller for those who just want to sit and not put their book down!
Marcus and Louise are no longer in love. They decide instead of divorcing to have an open marriage. That'll help improve things....or so they think.
From the title alone, I thought I knew where this book would take me. My initial thoughts were wrong. This book went in a direction I wasn't expecting but thoroughly enjoyed! I loved that there was a twist on the extramarital affair trope with open consent. This book weaved a very tangled web that was full of drama, twists, lies, deceit, and betrayal. This book reeled me in and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would develop. I was truly shocked at the twists and turns that happened as the plot developed.
The Open Marriage was a quick read that will keep you entertained as you anxiously await for the drama and twists to unfold!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I would like to thank Bookouture, Victoria Jenkins and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. The premise was captivating, however this didn't quite work for me. I found the pacing slow, and the writing disengaged. Coupled with my current reading slump, I just wasn't able to really get into it.
This book was an excellent page turner which you can’t put down. There are so many suspenseful twists and turns all the way through along with an excellent ending. The characters were great, the story itself was so enjoyable that it keeps you on the edge of seat and the style of writing was perfect.
I have read many books by this author and they are all excellent.. I haven’t been disappointed once. I would highly recommend this book and its author to anyone who enjoys reading a good psychological thriller.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.
I thought this book started slowly and was quite far-fetched, but the twists made it an interesting read.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest review
It was supposed to save us...it destroyed us...
I had high hopes for this book having read and devoured Victoria Jenkins' previous thrillers but I just couldn't warm to this one. The maid character Louise is just so depressing. Her life is depressing. It's all so mundane and her monologue is depressing. If I wasn't depressed before I started, I certainly was with only a few chapters in!
The premise offered a promising tale of forbidden fruit. Why on earth thinking that sleeping with someone else would be the saving of their marriage? I found it somewhat distasteful and a mockery of what marriage is.
I won't bore you with the outline of the plot because it's not entirely interesting anyway. Louise feels invisible to her husband Marcus having only been married barely a decade. She begins to wonder whether he is having an affair and then when meeting Erin, she's introduced to the idea of an open marriage, begins one herself with Erin's hubby Keiran.
And why, when you have a perfectly good gym at home, would you then in the next scene take yourself off to the leisure centre (ie. gym) for yoga that you could do at home for free??
I expected more but with the reading slump I'm currently in, I found this one to be boring with irritating and depressing characters. I DNF. I may pick it up again at a later date and give it another go.
I would like to thank #VictoriaJenkins, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheOpenMarriage in exchange for an honest review.

The Open Marriage is definitely not one of those books you should judge by its cover. I was expecting something smutty, over the top, salacious and this book did not deliver that…. Which was okay with me!
Louise and Erin meet at yoga class and naturally decide to swap partners to fix their marriages. What could go wrong?! Literally everything!
This is a fun, not super serious read. It has interesting twists and annoying characters. I definitely don’t think you’ll see the twists coming but you’ll probably want to smack all of the characters at least once.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to enjoy this ARC! It is out now so don’t forget to grab a copy on your way out of town for the 4th!
I am rating this book at 3.5 stars, but will round it up to 4. This was the first book from this author that I have read. This book took awhile for me to get into, as I was expecting it to have me more on the edge of my seat. There were some twists and turns in this book, but not enough to make it where I couldn't predict what was going to happen at the end of the book.
I will try reading a book from Victoria again in the future, hopefully the next one will be a bit better with twists and will have me completely invested in the book.
An enjoyable enough read although I had higher hopes for this one based on the blurb was a quick easy read 3 stars
Well, Well, Well I did NOT expect that bombshell of an ending!!!
Wow!!! What a rollercoaster ride of a read!!! Fantastically written with vivid descriptions throughout making me feel like I was in the storyline. The synopsis, title and cover suited the plot perfectly.
I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting!!! It is one of those books that each and every time I said one more chapter and then bed something happened so there was no chance I could put it down so I ended up walking around with my kindle glued to my hands until I had devoured it in one go!! Mind you, to be fair, I have come to expect nothing less from the extremely talented Victoria Jenkins!! I absolutely LOVED the fact that the storyline is a unique one that I have not come across before. I have read hundreds and hundreds of books so it is getting harder and harder for me to discover a completely different storyline but Victoria manages it hook, line and sinker!! The storyline was absolutely gripping and kept me up until the early hours of the morning as I could not put it down!! I absolutely love how intriguing, complex and multi-layered the storyline is with so much going on!!! I was sitting on the edge of my seat with a pounding heart and my jaw dropping as Victoria takes us on a psychological ride of suspense and tension!!! I was absolutely gobsmacked when everything was revealed, absolutely explosive twists which I was not expecting!!! A HUGE congratulations to Victoria on that as it is definitely getting harder and harder to shock me but you most definitely did that!!! There were points where my heart was in my throat and I was on the edge of my seat, and then the edge of my bed as I was not putting this book down until I finished!!! I loved that everything was tied up nicely at the end as a pet hate of mine is loose ends and having something mentioned in a book that the author seems to then forget about but absolutely everything was explained by the end of this one. It is rammed with secrets, friendship, secrets, twists, lies and absolutely everything you could ask for in an explosive psychological thriller! I was absolutely mind blown by some of the secrets that were coming out and just when I thought they had all been told BOOM another shocker!!! The ending was definitely the biggest twist and I would not have seen that one coming in a million years!! This book would make a fantastic movie!!
Clear your schedules before glancing into this absolutely addictive and explosive psychological thriller as once your hooked there's no letting go until the very end!!
The characters were all strong, realistic and very well developed. I was completely invested in each and every one of their stories. They all had such unique personalities and I felt different about each of them, liking them or not trusting them for different reasons. I did feel some sympathy for Louise but at the same time there were parts where I struggled with her naivety and felt myself shouting at her through the pages, of course that gained me a few strange looks!! I will say that if you are a fan of Harlan Coben then you will absolutely love this addictive page turner!! Victoria brings each of the characters to life with her fantastic writing skills, again something she does in all her books, and between the characters and the plot you will be left absolutely gobsmacked!! Regardless of whether you love or hated the characters they all worked perfectly well to make this a page turning psychological thriller!!
I absolutely loved your book Victoria and congratulations on yet another HUGE success . I cannot wait to read more of what promises to be heart stopping reads. Here's to your next success 🥂.
Overall a heart pounding, page turning, edge of your seat psychological thriller filled with explosive twists that will keep you up late at night.
Your marriage is feeling stale and you meet a new friend who suggests that opening up your marriage might save it…
What a fun and drama filled domestic thriller! This book felt like a lifetime movie and I found it so entertaining! I flew through it and I loved the mystery and suspense throughout. Things continually spiral and the twists really surprised me! There are several storylines going on at the same time which added even more suspense and action to the story. Some of the twists at the end totally shocked me!
Thank you so much NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc!
Book was OK. It was not nearly as addicting and thrilling as I thought it would be. The storyline had some twists but I would say majority of the surprises were pretty obvious. There were some plot holes, but who's really counting right?
The Open Marriage by Victoria Jenkins is about a marriage falling apart. Louise and Marcus haven't been intimate with each other in months and Louise would do anything to make their marriage work. She meets Erin at yoga class and strikes up a friendship with her right away. Erin can relate to Louise's marital woes. She and her husband Kieran were close to separating too until they began an open marriage. Willing to try anything to repair their marriage, Louise convinces Marcus into swapping partners with Erin and Kieran for one night.
However, after that one night, everything started to fall apart even more. Louise had an affair with Kieran and Erin goes missing. Louise discovers Erin and Kieran are not who they say they are.
The story was told from Louise's point of view. However, it was really hard to comprehend Louise's decisions. She makes me scratch my head and wonder how someone could be so trusting and oblivious. Her character only added to my disappointment as the plot thickens.
While this was a fun read, I did not think this was book really had much else going for it.
Thank you to Netgalley, publisher and author Victoria Jenkins for providing me with an ARC, in exchange for my honest, unbiased review.
If you thought your husband was having an affair, you'd confront him wouldn't you? Not Louise, she thought it easier to tell all to a complete stranger at her exercise class, who them fills her head with solutions that are going to cause even more carnage in their marriage.
I've previously enjoyed several of Jenkins thrillers, I like her writing style. She knows how to keep you turning the pages, throwing a twist or two into the mix along the way, then blindsides you with an ending you just didn't see coming.
However hard I tried, I couldn't get invested into the characters. This didn't distract from my enjoying the book in any way.
Wow what a storyline. 100% did not predict how this was going to play out. Another belter by Victoria.
This took me a while to get into but once I did, I just couldn’t put it down A great domestic thriller and loved all the twists.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Open Marriage by Victoria Jenkins
"The Open Marriage" by Victoria Jenkins is an addictive psychological thriller that had me hooked from the very beginning. The story centers around Lucy and Marcus, a couple struggling to save their marriage, who decide to try an open marriage after being inspired by Erin and Kieran, another couple who seem to have found marital bliss. The plot thickens as Lucy finds herself breaking the one rule of complete honesty, leading to an affair with Kieran. As tensions rise, Erin goes missing, and the twists keep coming.
The unexpected final twist left me stunned, completely shifting my perspective on the story. Jenkins masterfully weaves suspense and intrigue, making it impossible to predict the ending. At one point I really thought that the blackmail was done by Kieran himself, but I was so wrong. The characters are well-developed, and the narrative is fast-paced, keeping you on the edge of your seat.
This book is perfect for fans of thrillers and anyone looking for a gripping read with jaw-dropping twists.
Very grateful to @bookouture for my place on the blog tour today.
How far would you go to save your marriage?
Louise's marriage to Marcus is falling apart. They barely talk to each other anymore, and they haven't been intimate in six months. She knows all arrows are pointing to a divorce. But that's the last thing she wants. She still loves her husband. Yet, she doubts he feels the same way.
When she meets new girl Erin at yoga class, Louise strikes up a friendship with her right away. Erin can relate to Louise's marital woes. She and her husband Kieran were close to separating too -- until they began an open marriage. When Erin invites Louise and Marcus to join them, Louise is intrigued by the idea. Erin's beautiful. She imagines her husband Kieran is handsome. A peek on social media confirms it. However, she doubts Marcus will go for it. But she's wrong. About Marcus... and everything.
Meeting Erin and Kieran in a hotel to swap partners was supposed to save their marriage. Instead, Louise begins an affair with Kieran behind Marcus' back as Marcus turns into the attentive husband she wanted him to be -- one night too late. When Erin suddenly goes missing and the police find a dead body, Louise learns Kieran and Erin aren't who they seemed to be -- and her marital woes go way deeper than she realized.
Full of deceit, betrayal, lies, and even a murder or two, "The Open Marriage" by Victoria Jenkins is as suspenseful and twisty as it is gripping and addictive. It's easy to get instantly swept up in this book. In fact, it'll be a surprise if you don't. The storyline is brilliant, but so is the writing itself and the way the story was written. So many thrillers leave you with a feeling of "what the heck is going on" for the first part of the book. Especially in the early chapters, you feel a bit disoriented and confused as the author (or the narrator) intentionally and noticeably leaves out pertinent information to keep you guessing.
But not in "The Open Marriage". Since it's written in first person point-of-view, you are privy to Louise's thoughts and actions from the beginning. You know what Louise knows, and you see what she sees. You are immersed in her world. This includes her marriage, relationships, career, et cetera. That's not to say you won't be kept guessing. You will! Is Louise a liar? Someone's blackmailing her. Someone else warns her to watch her back. Erin goes missing, and a body's found. Who's guilty of something? Who's not? Are Louise's perceptions of the other characters correct? Seriously, though. What's going on? It was a simple spouse swap. Why has Erin disappeared? Why was someone murdered? There's so much to figure out -- and to love. This book is omggood (and with absolutely no graphic, naughty bits).
"The Open Marriage" is a true page-turner with plenty of twists to make your jaw drop and your breath catch in your throat. With a well-developed story, a perfectly executed plot, and an ending you won't see coming, "The Open Marriage" is a fast-paced book that you won't be able to read fast enough.
