This was a bit too much of a fluffy historical romance for me. I wish there had been more danger or kidnapping or excitement to keep the plot flowing.
I loved the first book, Hatbrook and Alys' story, and for sure I wanted to read the sequel.
In this book, Cap Judah Shield discovers that he was not the son of whom he thought to be his whole life. Bewildered, he wants to find out about his real family.
Meanwhile, his "brother", now a married man, asks Shield to take care of the tearoom that his wife Alys manages while the couple travels for honeymoon.
In the meantime, Shield knows Magdalene.
She also goes through a difficult time in the family with her sick sister. She needs to work, and Shield helps her.
In fact, Shield helps her in many ways, even when she needs to get in touch with her brother (Shield would have the connections to find him).
The couple slowly moves from friendship to crush, from crush to in love.
Heather Hiestand's plots are always different and interesting, but sometimes her narrative has a slower pace.
I really liked the main characters and sometimes I wanted certain things to happen a bit faster... But it's the author's writing characteristic.
