DNFd at 40%.

The writing is juvenile and the plot in the first 40% is stuck on an endless looking of “woe me,” “pity me,” and “I have a crush I can’t get rid of.” The characters are so self-loathing and annoying repeating the same qualms about themselves and their companions. The premise of the book is interesting, however, the execution lacking. The magical abilities seem intriguing, but they’re really only used to feed into the character’s self-loathing.

This is a cozy fantast that tries to give Princess Bride vibes, but doesn't quite make it to that beloved status. It is very cheesy, which at times it great, but at other times is just a little too much.

The book is an interesting dive into trauma and how it affects different people. Elowen, Clare, and Beatrice have all experienced a great trauma in their quest to save the realm. It has affected them all differently and none of them have healed from it.

I am a little annoyed that the blurb has spoiled stuff that happens more than halfway through the books. The blurb I had read spoke of them having to go on another quest to save the realm which does not come up until more than 40% through the book. So I got a little bored on the way while waiting for that to happen.

In my opinion, the pacing was also a little off. I wanted something a little bit faster paced. And the revealing of what happened in the past was just spread out too much. I also hated the ending with Beatrice's last memory recall. I feel it ruined the whole point of the book being about healing from past trauma.

There are some fun elements to the book. I loved the fantasy versions of video chatting, Starbucks, Uber, and soap operas. Pulling these things into a fun fantasy world definitely made me smile and I enjoyed reading such creativity.

I'm a mood reader and I think part of my issue with the book was I was not in the mood for a cozy fantasy when I picked it up. I do think other people will enjoy it more than I have, with it's fun (if sometimes over the top) banter and modern conveniences turned into fantastical things.

The premise of this book was so fun and interesting! A book that finally focuses on the heroes after the quest is done? It’s so unique and captured my interest instantly. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and their back stories. The world building was also very different than I’ve seen before but was confusing as there was a mix of modern and old that didn’t quite work. I loved the enemies to lovers and pining. Overall, this was a cozy read with a unique and fun voice.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC!

This book book makes a huge promise with the comparison of “People We Meet on Vacation” meets “The Princess Bride,” and with that unfortunately sets impossibly standards for itself. The stakes seemed inconsistent - at times world-ending and village slaughtering and then the next beat the villains pause their evil plan for a casino night and the heroes engage in Scooby Doo style shenanigans. While I do love a shenanigan, and would expect as much from a book compared to The Princess Bride, the juxtaposition of the two within a span of just a few pages seemed to diminish both. Rather than steadily building the stakes from cozy shenanigans to more impactful and serious threats, it seemed like this book couldn’t make up its mind about what it wanted to be.

I was willing to look past that and consider this a solid 3.75-4 star read, as the banter was fun and I did like the characters’ group and individual journeys, however I hated the ending. To me, it completely diminished the characters’ growth and personal journeys with grief, and honestly seemed to come out of absolutely nowhere.

I picked this novel up for the title and the beautiful cover, looking forward to the promise of sword/sorcercy/MRP characters reunited 10 years after saving their world. It's a world full of quirky parallels to our own — magic lantern shows = junky tv, what happens in the Vermillion Vale stays in Vermillion Vale, and so on — which straddle the annoy/amuse line for me. On the annoy end, one wonders why set this throughly modern story in a fantasy land. On the amuse end, the authors (there are three) have an eye for absurdity and snappy dialogue.

Romantasy fans will appreciate the deep dive into the characters' anxieties and insecurities as the characters are thrown back together (second-chance slow-burn romances all around!) and must work their way through the traumas and survivor's guilt that has left each in various degrees of misery since the day they defeated the Big Bad.

The book was not really to my taste, even as a lightweight appetizer. Turns out I prefer more show less tell when it comes to the characters' feelings, and weighing in at 400+ pages, there are a lot of feels to work through.

Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for the advanced eARC in exchange for my unfettered opinions.

This was such a cozy, medieval romantic, and the characters were very likable. The plot was very deep and I absolutely loved every single page of this book I sped through.

This was extremely fun to read. The pacing wasn’t perfect the whole way through but the characters were very likable and well developed. Clare gave Gilderoy Lockhart vibes from Harry Potter but I mean that in the very best way. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a cozy lighthearted fantasy adventure quest

This Will Be Fun- was it…. fun?

A cozy medieval romantasy set in a magical land, told in the three POVs of the remaining four heroes of Mythria, as they reunite for the first time since their quest and the subsequent events that occurred ten years prior.

What the authors of portrayed well was the complications of friendships and the importance of communication in friendships and relationships. However, I found the book to be a tad anti-climactic and far too predictable for my liking.

Yes, This Will Be Fun was a fun read, and just that.

3.5/5
This Will Be Fun tells the story of three heroes ten years after saving the realm from a group of nobleman that turn conspirators to overthrow the Queen. They must reunite to attend the royal wedding and face the aftermath of losing their leader and blaming each other for what happened. it is told from the perspective of the three heroes, Beatrice, Clare and Elowen which is nice as you get to see how each of them feel and what made them go no contact with each other. They reluctantly meet on their journey to the palace and that goes on for 40% of the story which gave it a slow start in my opinion.

Even though the premise makes it seem that the story is more quest centered I think it is definitely more focused towards the characters and their relationships. We get two second chance romances with Beatrice and Clare trying to reconcile what they had and forgiving each other. And Elowen and Vandra (she used to be a “villain”) being on the same team and acting on their desires. Elowen also moving past her brothers death and being friends with Beatrice again since she feels guilty of his death.

There is banter, silliness, bit of spice and humor between them which made it more fun. The medieval version of modern things is what gave more quirkiness to the book, as others have mentioned. It was funny to me every time they would talked Wagon for Us, the foamy and sweet coffee drinks, there’s even a candy called sizzle crystal that sounds like pop rock. I did expected more action though, and didn’t know if I liked the ending that much but overall was a nice read.

Thank you to NetGalley, Avon and Harper Voyager for the opportunity to read this ARC and share my honest opinion.

This book was such an exciting read! I absolutely loved it and I can't wait to read more from this author. The plot was fast paced and was never boring. The characters were interesting and unique which made the story really enjoyable for me. Great read!

Fun and lively. I giggled through much of it, and sat in thoughtful silence for the other part. Endearing and flawed characters that make you want to root for their happy endings.

3*

I was really taken in by the premise of this book, but I found it took a long time for me to care about what was happening with half of the cast.

Clare and Beatrice had me from the start, especially Beatrice's drunken trip to retrieve her robe. But Vandra felt meh and a little manipulative and Elowen's story felt like a weak reflection of Bea and Clare.

I thought the worldbuilding was a little slap-dash and that there was a lot that could have been done to refine this story and make it more enjoyable.

I appreciated the attempt, but it just missed the cosy fantasy mark for me.

This Will Be Fun was very slow to start, but once it did it was, indeed, fun. I had to read more than half of the book before it caught my interest, and if I hadn’t received it from NetGalley, I wouldn’t have finished it. It takes too long to introduce a major conflict that is hinted at from the beginning, so by the time it actually came I was annoyed with all of the hints and suggestions.

That being said, after 50% and even more so by 70%, the book became really fun and entertaining. I found two of the four main characters enjoyable, and there were some really funny moments with them. If you like endings that are neatly tied up with a bow, this book definitely fits.

I’m giving this 4 stars. It would have been 3 based on the first two-thirds, but the rest made up for it enough to deserve another star. Ultimately, I don’t know if I would recommend this book or not. I think it’s the most extreme example of slow to start that I’ve ever read, and that’s something I just don’t have any patience for.

*Thank you to NetGalley for the digital advance copy of this book.*

This book had so much potential. However, the pacing was uneven and the mix of ye olden times and technology did fit quite fit. The big fight scene was rushed and the end was abrupt.

This book has a great premise and I see what the authors are trying to do here, but unfortunately it really didn’t work for me. The humor didn’t work on page, the characters and the romances were not developed enough for me to care about them - there was just a lot left to be desired. I don’t know if it was because there were 3 authors or they were trying too hard, but it just fell flat. There were some great ideas here so I’m really bummed it didn’t work for me.

Wonderful book with wonderful characters. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced readers copy of this book.

The description of this book gave me high hopes and expectations and it totally lived up to it! It was so cozy and fun and romantic. But still had some good plot twists and wasn’t slow at all - some cozy fantasy’s feel very slow to me but this felt focus and had a real purpose. I lived the characters and the focus on relationships. Will be adding to my own collection and adding to our library.

I feel this book could've used alot more plot. Although I liked the focus on the relationships, I also wanted an insane plot. Good, but not great.

I was so worried to read this book because the description sounded like something I would LOVE and I was worried it wouldn’t live up (comparing it to The Princess Bride meant I went in with HIGH expectations) but this book was just so perfect!

We start out with the prologue which a flashback to the first quest our characters went on which tragically ended in their leader’s death. We get to see them all happy and having fun on their mission and a little bit of how they are as a group from Galwell’s point of view. I feel like this was such a great way to start the book because it really shows how different they are when our story starts 10 years later and how much Galwell’s death affected them all.

This book manages to be both a fun and cozy quest story that had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions, and a really great story about how different people manage grief. I think the authors managed to balance out the comedy and the tragedy really well as well as show a lot of really good character growth.

The world building was simple, but really well done. The authors brought in a lot of recognizable things from our world (coffee shops, elevators, and TV shows to name a few) but used changed them enough and used magic in a way to seamlessly fit them in to this magical world. The magic system itself was straightforward and still interesting with every person being born with a unique type of magic so it was fun to learn what each person could do.

The quest part of the story felt like a perfect D&D game. The end goal of the quest was simple (defeats the bad guy) but the most important parts were the ridiculous situations they got themselves in along the way. The characters were flawed and lovable. They made me laugh and cry countless times throughout the book and their reactions to the insane things going on made me really wish I could just sit down and have a pint of mead with them.

All of our main characters have been drowning in grief for the past decade, and they all dealt with it (or rather didn’t deal with it) in very different and believable (but very unhealthy) ways. Watching them learn to forgive each other as well as themselves and deal with that grief properly was really great. Each character has a few different epiphany moments where they make significant breakthroughs and learn and grow.

Overall I absolutely ADORED this book. I can’t wait to read more from the author and I really wanna go to a Ren Faire now.
