A Fantastic journey into a new genre for me and I had so much fun reading it. This Will be Fun was my first book by EB Asher but not my last.
The title tells you everything you need to know about this book. It is FUN!!!
If you’re looking for a cozy, funny and whimsy romance novel with fantasy elements this is it!!! A super quick read and a guaranteed good time!
Those looking to read an Arthurian tale with elements of 2024 will love this story. Knights are celebrities, people watch soap operas called shadow plays, and citizens still ship their favorite couples with portmanteaus. It was extremely cozy, amusing at times, and occasionally a bit steamy. I was a little concerned that flipping between chapters written by three authors would be jarring, but it wasn't. Each character had their own clear voice, but the overall tone of the novel was consistent.
One issue I ran into was that the pacing for the first 50% of the book felt really slow. I'm also not sure how I felt about the ending. On the one hand, it's a fantasy, so anything could happen. On the other, it feels like the growth that Clare, Beatrice, and Elowen made in the past ten years was undermined by Galwell returning to the living. I expect that will be a controversial plot point for readers, good or bad.
Overall, this was a fun read, and I know exactly which friends I will be recommending it to.
Well - this was … fun 😂. I had so much fun listening to this on audio that I didn’t really want it to end . At its root - it is a love story - romantic love … friendship .. found family … was it a little silly at times ? Sure but it wasn’t trying to be serious anyway

What a fun book! This fed the part of me that is still sad that Galavant got cancelled (to no ones surprise, but my disappointment). This story is basically, what if the main character of the heroic action movie died?
Apparently, everything falls apart. Ten years after they save the kingdom and Galwell's death, Beatrice is going through a divorce, Elowen lives in a tree, and Clare is trying to stand in as the hero everyone wants. When they're called to the palace for the queen's wedding, they all go (mostly) reluctantly.
I found the sad sack heros to be so funny, but I also loved their vulnerabilities that made them relatable. The imposter syndrome Clare has, the fear of love Elowen deals with, and the survivor's guilt Beatrice battles made them so human. I enjoyed the banter and the soft moments, as I grew to love these deeply flawed characters who are so lost but also so full of heart.
I will say that I docked a star because they spent ten years avoiding their problems and that led to a lot of miscommunication and a lack of communication throughout the story. It was frustrating at times, because I really wanted to just yell at them to talk. I ended up tearing up during those harder conversations, when they eventually happened, but it was frustrating for a good chunk.
This is not a hero's journey, or even really a romantasy (at least not how I'd qualify a romantasy). It's a character-driven adventure, set in a mixed modern/medieval fantasy world, with romance. Again, think more Galavant or Princess Bride - very much more focused on banter and relationship development of all the characters. The romance is a big focus, but also still felt like a subplot.
As a whole, I loved this book. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I finished, I just loved the world and magic so much. The stakes never felt high and I kind of loved that vibe of meandering their way through potentially world-ending quests. Like, same lol.
TW: violence, death, war, manipulation, injury detail, sexual content, isolation, survivor's guilt, alcohol consumption; mentions kidnapping, death of a sibling, infidelity

This Will Be Fun is a cozy, quest driven fantasy romance that follows a group of four heroes ten years after they saved their princess and kingdom. None of the heroes are where they hoped to be when they took on their original quest. Now they are forced back together and each will face their own weaknesses, prejudices, and assumptions. Will they overcome them and once again save the realm along with themselves?
This was a quick read that really focused on personal growth, self love and learning to forgive. Each character had hang ups that just required a uniting catalyst to work through. This truly was a feel good, happily ever after, cozy kind of novel. 3 stars.

2.5* Rounded down
This book did not live up to it’s title at all, it was mostly this will bore you than fun. The beginning was way too slow and it didn’t connect me to any of the characters. The premise was interesting if it was more cozy fantasy than fantasy quest. There was not enough cozy to make it a cozy fantasy and there was not enough fun/suspense to make it a fun adventure quest. I do not want to be too negative but this book was just not for me. I pushed through the end but I should have just DNF’d it and I regret that I did not.

This was a pretty fun quest-based story about 3 friends who cut contact after they saved the realm 10 years ago and lost the 4th member of their group. The story leans more towards romance, following Clare (male, in case that’s confusing) & Beatrice (or Claretrice) as one couple and Elowen & Vandra as the other (love a sapphic romance). We get 3 POVs and 4 starkly different but witty personalities which makes for some entertaining banter. They come back together 10 years later to help save the future husband of the queen on a new quest as the heroes of the realm.
Tbh I was not able to anticipate anything that happened in this book and the ending surprised me with some tears!
I think the biggest downfall for me is that it definitely felt like it lost the plot at times.
I enjoyed myself reading this and find it interesting that EB Asher is actually the pen name of 3 different authors who wrote this story.
If you’re looking for a medieval rom com with funny modernizations and light fantasy aspects, or a lighthearted story about 3 friends learning to love each other again, then you should pick this one up!

4! This Will Be Fun is a standalone fantasy romance that follows a group of heroes, Clare, Beatrice, Elowen, and Vandra, ten years after they saved the realm, each struggling with the emotional fallout. When they're invited to the Queen of Mythria’s wedding, they reluctantly reunite, only to be drawn into another quest. The story blends humor, banter, and romantic tension as the characters confront old wounds and new challenges. While the plot is enjoyable, the character dynamics, particularly the development of the romantic relationships, stand out. With a lighthearted tone and some mild spice, it's a quick, fun read.
Thank you Netgalley, Avon, and Harper Voyager for this eARC.
This was a cute character focused romantasy and the characters are where the book shines. I had questions about the world and was a little disappointed at how some of the action happens off page and you get a mere mention of the victories. Even with those notes, I had a good time.
I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I fought my way through this book until I reached the 50% mark. I cannot go further because I am hating every second of reading this and I'm mad that I'm not loving it. I was looking forward to this book so much. I was expecting witty banter and fast pacing but what I got was a lot of depressed people being forced to get back together. The characters have no chemistry between them and are pretty boring on their own. They all moan and complain internally (and some externally) about the quest they had been on in their past. I didn't want them to go to the Queen's wedding any more than they did because I wanted the book to be over. They didn't get to the palace until about 47% through as it was. I anticipate the last 50% of this book might pick up due to the fact that they are now going on a new quest but I just cannot care any less.
The references were a little too modern for me. However, if you enjoy Kimberly Lemming's writing, then you will probably enjoy this book a lot.
I needed This Will Be Fun by E. B. Asher more than I ever realized.
This is the story of what happens AFTER you save the world. After you have tried to move on from losing family. After you have lost everything that made you you. I love the characters Elowen, Beatrice, and Clare who are all deeply troubled in different ways and less than thrilled to be pulled back into their old life.
This will be fun is fantasy at its best!
This book was cozy but felt super sad, even at the points where there should have been happiness. This just didn't excite me as I expected. I was annoyed by the luxuries of today in a setting that seemed to be Camelot, and the neverending misunderstandings throughout, Throw in a reincarnation of a hero 10 years deceased, a clumsy sapphic second chance romance, and a painfully clumsy second chance romance between two heroes, and a quest to find the protagonist from 10 years ago and you have the book.
It just wasn't for me.
Thank you Netgalley and E. B. Asher for the ability to read this e-ARC and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.
Quick overview:
Have you ever wondered what happens to the heroes after the realm is saved and the story ends? This Will Be Fun follows three heroes ten years after their mission is complete and they are called upon to reunite for the Queen's wedding.
My thoughts:
All the characters are a mess and I absolutely love them, especially Vandra! I love a good fantasy adventure story, and this one does with with three POVs, brilliant foreshadowing, and a really fun writing style. (Technically, three fun writing styles, as I had no idea the author is three people until the end!) There is found family, romance, and a luxurious bubble bath and I would like to live in forever.
I was really looking forward to this based on the description. I had seen it listed in other's posts about upcoming books and I really thought this was going to be a great romantasy. I simply cannot get any further in this book. I fall asleep every single time I try to read it. At first I thought I was enjoying it but I just can't get over the current slang. The fart joke also just didn't do it for me. I'm going to have to DNF.

“What a fool I am, letting you walk away without saying what my heart has sung since the very moment you entered my life.”
This Will Be Fun is a standalone fantasy romance following a group of heroes ten years after they saved the realm...and they are all variations of miserable. See they haven't spoken since that fateful day and have all thrown themselves into extremes to cope with the cost of saving the realm. When the queen of Mythria invites them to her wedding they know they can't refuse. What they never expected was to find themselves on another quest...to save the realm again. Add in a helping of pining, guilt, and old flames and the gang, Clare, Beatrice, and Elowen (plus Vandra), must decide if they can overcome their old wounds to find the happily ever after they desperately wanted the first time.
This is a book of messy people who finally start to figure things out when they rely on each other. It is sweet and has a feistiness to it.
I felt the dynamic of these characters worked well for the story. You have Beatrice who has recently divorced and finds herself confronted by her old flame and questmate Clare with some unresolved issue. Clare has spent the last ten years building an image of being a hero but secretly harbours guilt. Elowen has spent ten years in seclusion avoiding the world as much as possible and Vandra, their old foe, is working alongside the Queen to show she has changed. I felt overall the characters were interesting and had life to them that drew me...although it does take time to warm up to them. I would say once they start bantering with each other I was more able to connect to them.
There was one side character that I absolutely adored but I don’t want to spoil. Suffice to say their positivity and enthusiasm just worked so well with the grumpiness and awkwardness of the gang while they were trying to figure each other out. Also Vandra was so great as she challenged the characters (especially Elowen). She has such attitude and personality - she is the most put together and still has a morally grey vibe.
In terms of spice, this book is 2 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers. There are two spicy scenes in this book and they happen towards the end of the book. This book has MF and FF relations and I felt both were well done. They aren't explicitly detailed with more romantic undertones. I thought they really worked for their relationships as they rewarded everything for the time it took for characters to figure things out. Also the couples were so cute afterwards with intimacy and blushing and support (Elowen and Vandra especially just had me grinning).
“I think I am the biggest accident that’s ever happened in your entire life.”
The story itself wasn’t anything super wowing to me. They all kind of start the book in some way lost and a bit of a mess. They end up on a quest as a result of something that risks the wedding and find themselves down a rabbit hole with caves, bars, and more. I felt the story moved well and there was plenty of banter and fun with fighting, bar chats, and a convention. I loved the world as it gave me a movie Ella Enchanted vibe with magical elevators and Ubers. One critique was how flat the villain turned out to be. I would have liked a bit more grit there. I also was not expecting the twist at the end and I am still unsure how I feel as it kind of took away from the ten years these characters have struggled. That said, the romance won me over.
Overall this is a fun quick fantasy for those not looking to throw themselves into a massive world. It's easy to follow, the characters will amuse you, and there is a bit of spice to tie it all together.
Thank you Avon for this arc!
This was really fun (no pun intended)! Have you ever wondered what happens to your beloved characters after they vanquish their enemies and save the realm? Look no further! Elowen, Beatrice, and Clare are part of The Four, the group who did just that a decade ago. Now in their 30s, the group is forced to reunite at the Queen's upcoming wedding and are (spoiler-alert) sent on another quest to rescue the future King and save Queendom again! (Side note, LOVE that it's called Queendom.)
This story was equal parts second chance romance, fantasy, and adventure. I really enjoyed the three POVs and getting to see Elowen, Beatrice, and Clare's character arcs through their own eyes. It was a playful, heartwarming, joyful story, and I was laughing out loud throughout. I particularly enjoyed the modern concepts weaved into the story (Wagons-For-You aka Uber + Harpy & Hind aka Starbucks), and all of the Clares (IYKYK).
The writing felt very cinematic too - maybe one day we'll see this on the big screen! Either way, I hope to see more stories from this author trio!
This book was comped to Shrek, which really had my hopes up. I don't think it's a bad book, but comparing it to Shrek gave me inaccurate expectations. I thought overall this was just okay. The characters fell kind of flat and one dimensional for me. But if you're looking for something fast paced that has high fantasy setting with modern elements, I definitely think you should give it a try!
Thank you to Avon for the ARC!
Ten years ago, the hero's saved the world. their lives, well... they super suck. this is a book filled with tongue in cheek humor, sarcasm, witty banter, and a delightful poking of fun at cliche's and tropes. a Kingdom filled with the magical equivalents of daytime soap opera's, celebrity magazines, and the most important of all, starbucks. we follow the lives of the four heroes who saved the world, as they are forced once again to step into the roles they'd played so long ago. only, none of them are what they used to be, and now they have to figure out who they are... as well as finally confront the trauma, and the fight, they all believed they'd never have to deal with.
this book is cozy adjacent with not one, but two slow burn romances, a focus on emotional growth, and a delightful commentary on miscommunication, forgiveness, and learning who you are, as well as embracing who you want to be.
