(1) I was immediately pulled in by the gorgeous cover. It sparked my imagination: who is this little girl? Why is she alone?
(2) When I discovered it was set in Alaska, I was sold!
(3) When I read that it was written by an Alaskan (now living in NC), I knew I’d made a great selection.
Heidi McCahan’s new series, Opportunity Alaska, promises to be an uplifting, sweet romance set in small-town Alaska.
Here’s what I loved:
💜 the author’s ability to bring the Alaskan setting to life
💜 complex, relatable characters I could imagine becoming my friends
💜 vulnerable characters with unhealed emotional trauma and baggage
💜 the palpable tension between the two main characters, ‘Lee-by and Sabby’
💜 second chances, redemption, grief and hope/joy
💜 fake dating trope
💜 sweet romance
💜 vulnerable little 4-year-old girl, Wren, who wrestles with belonging and bullies
💜 forever family
💜 focus on Christian response/reaction to living with people we find difficult
💜 encouragement to love and extend grace, and be willing to reach out with our mistakes so that we have help working through them
💜 the two settings (Alaska/Hawaii) are the locations of my present vacation
Premise:
Savannah Morgan and Levi Carter are not looking forward to their 10-year high school reunion. Savannah has just lost her job and Levi has recently become a single father. When Savannah’s desperate hope for employment meets with Levi’s imminent search for childcare and a date to the reunion, sparks fly. Can they help each other out? Or are they setting themselves up for failure?
This new-to-me author has captured my attention and I can’t wait to read book two!
I was gifted this copy by Harlequin-Romance, Love Inspired and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
