Really enjoyed this prequel! It is so well written that you don't need to to have read the two books already released that come after it in the timeline but you will want to. If you have read Fable and Namesake then you will already be invested in Saint and Isolde and I guess Clove. These younger versions show us how their story started and gives so much more depth to their character and background to their story that it captivates you. It is laced with a will they wont they (even though you know if you have read Fable & Namesake) but there is actually very little written romance, it just fizzling chemistry.
I listened to the audio version and enjoyed listening to the narrators.
I received this audio ARC for free through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
Saint is a prequel to the Duology Fable. This follows the odyssey of Saint, Clove and Isolde. Loved them. And I loved the narration. Both the narrators did a good job. I didn’t want it to end. So the Female main character analyses gemstones and able to identify between fake and real gemstones. She is really brave. Her mother always makes her do perilous things while her father taught her the art of analysing gemstones. She has a poignant back story. She gets tangled in the world of Gemstones, unnamed sea and traders. I was deeply touched by Saint’s story. I loved his character. I loved the setting of sea and everything. Simon was a mysterious character for me. This is a fantasy with elements of mystery and romance.
Many Thanks to the Publisher, Author and Narrators.
I loved reading Fable and I always thought that Saint needed his own book. However, for some reason, I kept putting off reading it until I found the audiobook on NetGalley.
Saying this, not only did I listen to the audiobook, but I also re-read Fable and Namesake to get myself in the mood, and I loved it.
It was wonderful to go back and get a glimpse of how this story started, even if it was bittersweet as we already know what's going to happen and still I could not put it down.
The narration was so well done that I lost track of time listening to it.
I think this book should be between Fable and Namesake, not before, as I did my re-read I think it enhances the story and gets you completely hooked in this wonderful world building that Adrianne gives us.
Thank you NetGalley and Bolinda Audio, for sending this audiobook my way.
A wonderful audio book experience for listeners from teenagers up. Adrienne Young returns to The Narrows with a story that reflects the pace and moods of the sea - unforgiving, immense, alluring, stormy, calm, frightening, a void stretching out waiting to be filled and claim. A book to listen to/or read before or after Fable and Namesake. Thank you to Belinda Audio and NetGalley for the audio ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.
Huge thanks to Bolinda Books and NetGalley for the audiobook of Saint by Adrienne Young, narrated by Ell Potter and Will Damron in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
I remember reading and totally falling for Fable but, there was always a little voice in the back of my head that kept asking for more about Saint and Isolde…Saint is my wish come true. You know they always say be careful what you wish for…well, this wish came with all the stories and gems.
This is the backstory to Fable that readers asked for and it was truly a joy to read. The world of the Narrows envelops you and sailing once again upon those stormy seas is truly an adventure.
I have previously read Saint, so was interested to see how the narrators would perform this book and the did a sterling job! They crafted distinct voices for the characters and added another dimension, bringing the story to life. I was entertained and pulled in deeper into the story - my dogs loved the longer walks, as I didn’t want to stop listening.
Young has truly created a world of adventure, intrigue and stormy seas that totally pulls you into its depth. A great prequel that answers so many questions about Saint and Isolde. Definitely not one to be missed if you loved Fable.
I really enjoyed this. Adrienne Young's writing always seems simple on the surface but then immediately draws me in and I remain hooked throughout the story.
I loved Fable and Namesake, so I was excited to read Saint. I wasn't sure about it at first, because he and Isolde are hard characters to get to know. They keep everything so close to the chest and are very wary about trusting anyone. As the story progressed, however, they began to let down their guard little by little and I cared about them a lot before I even realized it.
The romance was the sort where they're instantly attracted to one another but fight it, which isn't my favorite trope but I think in this case it worked well. For Saint his attraction to Isolde is almost like his mystical rituals about the sea. For Isolde it's like the Midnight. Like it's bigger than the two of them and they can't understand it or change it but just ride it out.
The story moved along at a good clip and there was plenty of action to keep me riveted. I loved that it was set either out on the sea or at various ports. Those are my favorite sort of books.
The side characters were great as well. They all felt real, as did the setting, like I could walk into those ports and those people would be there, exactly as described.
The story also managed to feel very new and yet end in a place that perfectly set up Fable and Namesake. It left a good span of years between the end and the start of Fable, but it arranged the playing pieces in such a way that I could see how they were lining up and how they would fall.
I will definitely be seeking out more of Adrienne Young's books when they are published.
The audiobook narrators were excellent as well. I enjoyed their voices and the character voices they chose. It definitely helped bring the story to life. It was very pleasant to listen to and I was immediately drawn into the story and wrapped up in the characters and what they thought and felt.
