Really enjoyed this novel
Very evocative of the war time period
A real page turner
Hope Rosie continues to write more stories of women in the war
Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. This was an enjoyable, gentle read. Although it was set against the backdrop of WW2, this seemed to have minimal bearing on the story in comparison to other books in this genre. Pearl and the supporting cast of characters were well-written.
This is book number 3 in the series. And in this book we follow Pearl, the youngest sister in the family. We follow her in the journey to fulfill her Dreams. It was a sweet book, and I liked how she dealt with obstacles. A entertaining book.
Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest opinion
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I loved reading this last book in the series which followed three sisters, May, Clemmie and Pearl.
After their house was bombed when war started and each went their own way, Pearl’s dream had always been to be a singer, as her voice is really good.
This book follows her story, in order to get a job on a bus, she lies about her age, then, as she meets a singing teacher, her dream looks set to come true and change her life.
What follows is what Pearl goes through in order to become what she’s always wanted.
I recommend this book.
This is the third book in the Sister at war series. This time it is Pearls story. The sisters loose their home in the Exeter Blitz and Pearl thinks her dream of going on the stage had gone too. This story tells of what Pearl goes through to obtain her dream. This is a great story like the other two in the series. Thank you to Netgalley and Canelo.
I didn’t reliase this was a trilogy when i requested it. However I found it easy enough to read. Really enjoyed it!
These Wartime dreams is a dramatic tale about life during World War 2 near London. Three sisters, Pearl, May and Clemmie, are left homeless after their area is bombed. Clemmie becomes active in the WVS and finds love. May goes to a farm as a cleaner and finds love. Pearl remains in the area with one goal to become a singer.
She is determined to make her dream come true. To pay for singing lessons Pearl becomes a "clippie" riding the buses. She gives the reader glimpses into the damage done to England. She observes some of the struggles the citizens endured.
It isn't easy for Pearl. She has to live on her own, with no support. She opens her hard to Lily, another student of her voice teacher. Pearl soon learns that not everyone is nice, not everyone is trustworthy. Thank goodness Pearl doesn't fall for the polished words to make it big. Lily would end up on a different journey.
To see Pearl find a happily ever after was a joy to read. To overcome all her challenges was an inspirations. She ended up showing a lot of class and shows that dreams do come true.
Fantastic end to this mini series with the three sisters from Exeter. May, Clemmie and now Pearl the youngest has shared her story.
They were bombed out at the start of the war and made their own way in life. Pearl has always dreamt of being a singer and she’s got a good voice. When she was bombed out with her sisters she was 16 but she lied saying she was 18 to get a job as a clippie. Following a chance meet with a singing teacher her life changes. This books follows Pearls journey with ups and downs along the way.
Great read
Brilliant read once again from Rosie, the characters are all amazing and storyline was really good it was descriptive and detailed as well
Firstly thank you Netgalley for this Arc
What a brilliant third book in this series love family saga based in the war this is definitely one for you
Can’t wait to read more
This was quite an emotional WW2 book that captured 3 sisters and how their family broke apart in the war in Exeter, about love, hate and friendship but more importantly the determination and willpower of a young lady who wanted to follow her dreams.
Loved this one
Thank you Netgalley and Canelo
Sisters’ War has been a great series! This the third book is no exception. I found myself getting annoyed on Pearl’s behalf, at times saying NO just a bit too loudly!
When Pearl, May and Clemmie are bombed out of their home it forces them to go in search of a new path in life. This caused some anguish for Pearl after May had gone to work on a farm, as she felt guilty at leaving Clemmie on her own. This made Pearl hide the fact that she had got a job as a bus conductress. Then Clemmie surprised her by saying she didn’t mind as she had found lodgings with one of the WVS ladies she worked alongside volunteering.
When Pearl decides to take singing lessons to further her ambition to be a singer it brought about a chance meeting with Ivy Snell who Pearl thought she could be friends with! When they are approached by Gordon Gold who insists he has a lot to off them Pearl is instantly on full alert, with good reason as it turns out!
There are twists and turns through the book to keep you page turning.
I liked all the war info through the book. My favourite characters were Sylvia Murren and Miss Sadie Sweeting. Least favourite Gordon Gold.
Look forward to more by this author.
