I love Blues and I have already 'done' the blues Highway and would do it again in an instant if it wasn't on the other side of the world! Definitely a great book for anyone interested in Blues and wondering if they should go on a trip!
If you love music read and start planning travels on a map. Intriguing, inspiring, entertaining.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Ilove the blues and follow alot of musicians and their history. This was a fabulous compliment. thanks for the advance read
Interesting travel read, picked it up because I was visiting the area and figured it would be a good introduction. Author has good stories and little “tidbits” ex. About certain recording studios or local joints that maybe the more initiated know about, but as a newcomer, I appreciated this book. Also not too dense or cumbersome like many true travel guides. I particular liked how this book introduced readers to the “green book” that sadly had to be used by the Black population during Jim Crow, which indicated which businesses would be friendly to them as customers while they travelled.
"Blues Highway: The Ultimate Guide" by Amy Bizzarri is an essential companion for anyone embarking on a journey along the iconic U.S. Route 61.
This comprehensive guide not only uncovers the fascinating history of the legendary musicians who have traveled this road but also provides a detailed itinerary of 100 must-visit stops. From the birthplaces of music legends to hidden gems like theaters, museums, and even gravesites, Bizzarri offers recommendations for hotels, dining, and other historical landmarks along the way.
As a music enthusiast, I learned a wealth of new facts about musicians while reading this book, and the layout makes it easy to navigate and plan out our trip. I'm thrilled to have discovered this resource, which will undoubtedly help plan future vacations.
Thank you to Globe Pequot and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.
