I don't read many thrillers. I've been bored too many times by being able to figure out who the guilty party is in the first couple chapters if not pages. This was not the case with The Swimmer. And this shouldn't surprise me. The author has a proven track record of surprising me time and time again.
The short and sweet: Chloe is a loner, bartender, and dogwalker, who meets new neighbors Jemma and Adam Spengler. Jemma is a content creator, Adam, a surgeon. One early morning Chloe witnesses a murder and she believes she knows who both the victim and the killer are.
Pacing: Simply put - fast and furious! I could not put this book down, I just couldn't.
One aspect of the book I liked so much was I didn't know what happened to different characters until the last few pages. White's writing was so skillfully done that I had envisioned vastly different endings for some.
The Swimmer is one of the best books I've read this year, and is likely to remain on that list.

Thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc of this one in exchange for an honest review!
Chloe is a bit strange. She likes to people watch and notices everything. When new neighbors move in, she becomes a little obsessed. The woman that lives there swims everyday at the same beach and Chloe likes to walk her dog at the same time to see her. One day, Chloe sees the swimmer hit with a jet ski in a hit and run and Chloe suspects it’s the evil husband and things quickly spiral after that.
We have chapters before the hit and run and then chapters after the hit and run. We also get parts of the documentary that was created after everything unfolded.
I really enjoyed this book! I loved the set up and how everything unfolded. It totally sucked me in! This one was full of drama and I really liked it. All of the characters had their own drama and secrets.
This book was also very quick paced and I read it in a day. I enjoyed the writing and the twists throughout.
I would definitely recommend this book!

I really enjoyed this thriller. I could not put it down and was hooked from beginning to end. The story line flowed really well and kept me wanting more.

Loreth Anne White is a long time fave! Every thing she writes is addictive. This story is no exception. Once the characters and scene is laid out you think you’ve got it figured out and nope you’re wrong. The action, suspense and twists are exciting. It’s like a movie!

This is a thrilling and intense read that I really enjoyed. The story follows a woman named Laurel who is trying to move on from a tragic past, only to find herself tangled in a dangerous situation while on a trip to a remote location. The suspense kept building as secrets about her past and the people around her came to light. I loved how the plot kept me guessing, and the characters felt real. It’s a fast-paced, gripping novel that I couldn’t put down.

Chloe just wanted to feel normal and have a friend. She wanted to be loved and confident: basically everything Jemma was. When Jemma and her husband moved in down the street, Chloe was curious. Chloe loves to observe people and Jemma looked so interesting! Chloe watches Jemma from afar and sees her swim every morning in the bay. While walking her dogs one morning, Chloe sees the familiar sight of Jemma swimming out, but then came a jet ski. Jemma is hit not once, but twice… and Chloe knows who did it.
This is my second book of Loreth Ann White’s and I am completely hooked! This book was a page turner and I could not get enough! Every chapter ended with me at the edge of my seat and ready for more.

This book was just ok for me. I didn’t think any of the twists were that shocking. I was really expecting more after loving the maids diary by this author.

Great read. It makes you want to read all her other books. The character and story line is gripping from the start. Make you want to stay up all night to finish it. I would give it 5 out of 5 stars

The Swimmer
by Loreth Anne White
5 ⭐️
If I could give this novel more than 5 stars, I would!
A swimmer is murdered and Chloe Cooper is a witness, but the police don’t believe her. When the woman she believed to be murdered turns up alive, Chloe is completely thrown.
The story was delivered so perfectly. At first, Chloe Cooper is portrayed as a stalker but then you learn there is so much more than meets the eye.
This book and all it twists was completely Unputdownable.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I 💜 Loreth Anne White. Ms. White delivers a gripping, slow-burn psychological thriller with The Swimmer, weaving an atmospheric and unsettling tale of obsession, secrets, and the dangers of watching from the sidelines.
Chloe Cooper is a socially awkward woman who prefers observing life rather than fully engaging with it. Between dog walking, bartending, and caring for her ailing mother, she finds escape in imagining the lives of others—especially her new neighbors, glamorous influencer Jemma Spengler and her husband, Adam, a highly respected surgeon. Their seemingly perfect world, visible through open windows, draws Chloe in, but as she watches, she starts to notice cracks in their flawless facade.
As usual the author weaves the tale with plenty of breath holding and draw dropping moments and twists you won't see coming 👏

Another absolute wild ride from the Queen of Psychological Thrillers!!! The Swimmer is a masterclass in psychological thrillers! Loreth Anne White is an auto buy author for me. Every book she writes is a winner. 🥇 Nobody does twists like her! The Swimmer includes a story about a manipulative wife, a cheating husband and a messed up in the head neighbor make for a fantastic, twisty read! Characters you will dislike and an unreliable protagonist or is she?
I absolutely loved this book and encourage anyone who likes "top notch" writing and twists that leave you with your jaw on the floor, to pick this book up asap!
Just read it. Go now. Don’t wait!
Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read this advanced copy.

The Swimmer by Loreth Anne White is a suspenseful psychological thriller that keeps readers guessing until the very end. Chloe Cooper, a socially awkward woman who spends her days observing others, becomes entangled in a web of secrets after witnessing a murder on a foggy beach. As she becomes suspicious of her glamorous new neighbors, Jemma and Adam Spengler, the couple’s seemingly perfect life begins to unravel. This chilling, atmospheric novel is a must-read for fans of domestic thrillers and complex characters.

Thanks to Netgalley and Montlake for the eARC! All opinions are my own!
Loreth Anne White delivers another twisty thriller that keeps you guessing! The writing is superb and the characters are relatable.
Not to mention, the audiobook is top tier!

This was a 3.5 star book rounded up for good writing.
I really enjoyed this thriller and though I found it chock full of mystery tropes, the author turned those tropes around a bit and wrote this book in a very twisty way to really create tension. For most of the way through I had no idea where this was heading and for that I really enjoyed it. However I do feel that this novel was missing something for me. It was very entertaining and immensely readable but I never found myself longing to pore over its pages and race to the end to figure out the mystery. I think that though there was tension and twists and turns that I found excellent and the lack of a big twist was refreshing, I was missing the element of mystery that was taken over by the twists and turns. But still I found this to be a very entertaining read and I am very much looking forward to reading more from this author who I believe has the potential to be a favorite of mine in this genre.

This is my second book from Loreth Anne White. My first was 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘥’𝘴 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘳𝘺 and I can still recall certain scenes from it vividly. The author’s ability to craft an emotionally dire storyline coupled with an overarching sense of evil continues to hold readers like myself captive. The realm of psychological suspense never ceases to excite and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘸𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳 is truly no different.
I enjoyed the interview format and true crime vibe from start to finish. The twist at the midway point had me reeling for more with no difficulty picking it back up again. The remaining chapters wrapped up rather nicely like a picturesque painting with no loose ends. The fate of both Boo and Sweetie was ironic yet oddly satisfying. It’s open and shut, case closed.

The Swimmer is a gripping and suspenseful domestic thriller, great for anyone looking for a twisty and compelling read.
The premise of a hit and run targeting a vulnerable swimmer is truly chilling, and sets off a series of complex and dark events that kept me glued to the page. White does a masterful job of creating a strong sense of atmosphere, and characters with depth and nuance making it hard to know who to trust, and what’s lurking around the corner.
Thank you Montlake for a copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

Thank you Netgalley & Montlake for an eARC of The Swimmer by Loretta Anne White! Why doesn’t this author get more love in the thriller world? Whenever I am approved I will automatically push her read up to the top of my TBR, and this one was no exception. Another 2024 favorite, The Swimmer was a breath of fresh air and deliciously twisty.
Main character Chloe Cooper is socially awkward and spends her time as a dog walker, bartender, caring for her sick mother, and also watching her neighbors. So, when wealthy neighbors Jemma and Adam move in to a house with no curtains on their windows, it’s almost like it was meant to be.
While walking her dog on the beach one early morning, Chloe witnesses the murder of a swimmer - And starts to make a connection to her new neighbors.
GUYS. This one keeps hitting with WTF moments. Also some very dark themes here that could be triggering, so would be worth to check these out before picking this one up. I wasn’t expecting this book to take the direction that it did and I’ll be highly recommending to all thriller lovers alike!

Another twisty and dark suspense from the author! This is one of my favorite authors but this one was not my favorite of hers. It wasn’t unique in the plot and featured another “unreliable female narrator with an alcohol problem”. This trope is overdone but the twist at the end was a nice touch!

Nothing is what it seems at first here, in this book.
Although slow at first, it picks up speed and quickly turns into a whirlwind of action, lies, and deception.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opotunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
This was a deliciously, engaging, psychological thriller. I liked the format of the book. I loved the true crime podcast interspersed with the chapters of before and after the accident. The characters were really well written, and the storyline was great. Lots of twists to keep me guessing.
Chloe Cooper is socially awkward, but also likes to safely stalk people and invent stories about who they are and what they are up to. Chloe is also a lover of dogs. She is the local neighbourhood dog walker and works at a local bar while caring for her mother who is sick.
Chloe quickly becomes obsessed with the new neighbours they’re attractive, they’re wealthy and they have this giant house with no curtains so living across the street Chloe becomes obsessed with watching them and finds herself trying to become involved in their lives without them knowing. She is instantly drawn to Jemma and finds herself disgusted by Jemma's husband, Adam. when a sudden horrible accident takes place, causing a death, Chloe is a witness, but who commited the crime and who might be next.
Great read, recommmned it for sure.
