I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.

I was excited to read this - a spy/romance story with a new to me author. It was fun! Great banter, some rom/com moments, It's single pov which worked though I prefer a dual pov in a straight romance. Also, this is the second book in the series, which I didn't know at the time. That was fine since the characters in the first book and this book are completely different. A fun read.

This was a cute spy rom com. I liked both the characters, but the relationship was lacking on page development for me.

I am a sucker for a great spy/ romance book that is fun, and this book checks all the boxes.

First off to truly sell it, the banter and chemistry between Andee and Chan is off the charts in my opinion. I enjoyed what a strong and yet understanding character Andee is, along with the coolest job ever as a pyrotechnic engineer. Honestly, I like reading books with STEM in it, but they normally fall within the same couple categories of jobs, so this was a great idea. I also felt that Adam's (Chan) disability rep was done really well, and added important parts to the story which again made this read different from the few other books that fall into this genre.

The hero is deaf / hard of hearing! If that’s not enough to convince you to read, the obvious chemistry between the FMC and MMC should. A must read for anyone who loves spy stories.

This is another exciting escapade involving the CIA and the bad guys. I really enjoyed the connection and the banter between Chan and Andee. There were interesting spy tidbits and character cameos from the first book. This is becoming a favorite romcom/suspense series and I'm already looking forward to the next book. I listened to the audiobook and the narration by Alex Finke made it a great way to read this fantastic caper.

This was just pure fun, picture Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, or Killers with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. We have Andee, a pyrotech (coolest job ever) who has spent her entire life thinking her dad is a famous dude her mom had a one night stand with, and then, fed up with coworkers not believing her and belittling her, she runs a DNA test to see if he is her father. Only to find out that her dad is actually the most wanted terrorist in the world and he's been looking for her for a long time! Enter CIA Officer Adam Chan, a hottie with a body! They end up kidnapped together and have to work together to take down her father, it was awesome! I loved their relationship and the fact that he was hard of hearing so they used ASL to their advantage and the diversity rep was great! I did not read the first book in the series but it did not hinder my reading experience at all, but I will for sure. be going back to read Mendez's story cause I need more!!

3.5 Star A fun little romantic suspense novel. I would almost call this cozy suspense.

Andee is a firework designer whose mother always told her she was the love child of a celebrity (with tons of stories but no proof) but when she finally does a DNA test she learns that celebrity daddy is not daddy at all, instead, her real father is a big time criminal. Which leads us to one of our only two connections to the previous book in this series, Crime-Dad.

Honestly, I went into this book thinking it would feature the same couple as The Spy and I, which is book 1 in this series, but honestly, you don't need to read that one to get this one. It doesn't have any moments that I was like "hey, I missed something in a previous book here, right?" and while I enjoyed the rare appearances of Mendez, I missed Dove, and I am kind of sad that this book was not more closely connected to the first book.

My second issue is that the majority of this book takes place in captivity. Almost immediately after the news is broken to Andee that she's the kid a recently escaped criminal on the run, she and the CIA 'officer' who rescued her at a bar and she thinks is hubba-hubba hot, Adam Chan, are kidnapped by Crime-Dad. They spend a good 60% of this book in Crime-Dad's secret underground bunker, learning about his dastardly plans and pretending to be dating. And kissing, a lot of kissing. It really dragged down the pacing for me, and I wish that that time was halved. I don't even really feel like we got a lot of character development in this time either, because they were trying really hard to not give away anything. What I'm trying to say is that I think that this relationship was definitely built on physical attraction and danger... and basically nothing else.

Because we spent so much time in the bunker, the fact that they went back to the bunker, after escaping, for the climax didn't only feel contrived, but was kind of upsetting. It was a pretty good climax and ending, but I needed it to be away from the bunker.

Now that we've talked about my issues, let me talk about the thing that blew me away.
Our male hero, Adam Chan, is written as hard-of-hearing. He wears hearing aids and they are a major aspect of his character, with mentions to the CIA having him carry around a back-up pair, the batteries dying after use, and him no longer being allowed to be in the field because he is partially disabled.

Also, a quirky fun fact from the first chapter of Andee learning sign language to have something in common with celebrity daddy, turns into a major plot point as Andee and Chan use sign language to communicate for the rest of the book when speaking might be an issue.

One of the cutest moments was between Chan and Andee when Chan told her that her voice was the exact right pitch for him to hear it, and her laugh is his favorite sound. It was so cute and heartwarming. I absolutely loved the representation here, it was the best part of the book for me!

I cannot stand the FMC. I had hoped maybe it was just the time I was reading it, but I am not a fan. Which, is a bummer because I enjoyed the first book by the author.

How fun was this one?!Andee is a pyrotechnic engineer. Ok, I’m always fascinated with firework shows and how they are created so I thought this was so cool! Anyway, she also is the daughter of an escaped from prison arms dealer who’s searching for her, his long lost daughter! Mix in a sexy CIA agent and you get this blast of a book!

“If I’d wanted a man to buy me a drink, I’d have worn cute clothes and shoes that hurt my feet. What I really wanted was to go home, forget today had ever happened, and hit the restart button like I was in the movie Groundhog Day.”

I enjoyed this contemporary-romance-meets-romantic-suspense novel with a very high-stakes version of fake dating. Andee was a little arrogant in the beginning but did eventually come around. Chan was basically perfection. Perhaps a little too perfect to be believable, but I’ll allow it. I loved the hard-of-hearing representation and the ways that may actually come in handy for a spy. I thought the spy stuff in general was well done and also corrected a few misconceptions.

The book is told entirely through Andee’s perspective. I typically prefer romance novels to be told with dual POV narration so I can see both sides. However, the single POV seemed to work here. I think it’s because Chan was smitten pretty much immediately. Most of the personal growth and self-realization is undertaken by Andee.

This is the second book in the My Spy series. I read this as a standalone and was able to follow the plot without any difficulty since it has completely different main characters. However, I think I’ll go back and read the first book anyone because I’m interested to learn more about Officer Mendez and his love story.

Andee is a great pyrotechnics builder. She's great at blowing stuff up. The thing is, her life gets blown up when the CIA AN shows up on her doorstep, complete with the hottie from the bar she just left... All hell breaks loose when she and Chan, the CIA/bar hottie, her kidnapped by her arms dealing creeper biological father.

Is there such thing as a rom-com/thriller? Because this is that. It's funny, it's suspenseful, it's romantic, and it's got a decent HEA after all the madness is over!

I will say that it's AWFULLY convenient that Andee learned sign language for a sort-of-just-because reason, and Chan is hearing impaired because of a bombing injury. But it certainly makes for a fun work around for the pair to sneak talking to each other even when there's cameras with both visual and audio. I appreciate the attention to detail, always having Chan positioning himself so he can hear better, and talking about the small sounds he wouldn't pick up because they're too subtle for his hearing aids.

I really loved this book. I loved the easy, sweet romance, and the gripping what-next of the thriller parts. It's so well done. I can't wait to see what else comes from this author!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy via NetGalley in return for sharing my thoughts on this book. Thanks to the author and publisher for this opportunity!

4 stars.

"Mr. Nice Spy" by Tiana Smith is loads of fun! It's an action-heavy and thrilling romantic comedy with great characters, fun spy-oriented twists, and enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. K1dnappings, explosions, double-crossings, str1p poker, falling in love... it's all par for the course for main characters Andee and Chan! I was enthralled with their journey and continually rooted for them to defeat Holt and get out of their sticky situation(s). I *loved* Andee and Chan so, so much. Andee is super smart and compassionate. She is the typical character who is desperate to find out the truth about her father because her mom may or may not have lied about who he was.. and it turns out, he might just be an internationally wanted criminal. Oopsie! Andee's spy abilities leave... a lot to be desired, so when she gets kidnapped by Holt, she doesn't have many tools to combat him. Luckily, she has Chan by her side. Chan is caring, slightly demanding but not pushy, attractive, and can hold his own in a fight. He is hard of hearing, and I appreciated this representation so, so much. They have to fake-date to cover up the fact that Chan is really a CIA agent! Why? Just go with it! I really liked this book. I found it to be quickly paced, not overly long, engaging, and enticing. I can't wait to go back and read the first installment in this series, and I hope that author Tiana Smith makes more of these books! So much enjoyment here!

Thank you to NetGalley, Tiana Smith, and Berkley Publishing Group for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

A fun and action packed romantic comedy that will leave you grinning from ear to ear.

I loved Andee's voice throughout the novel. She is funny, resourceful, and strong. Mr. Nice Spy also has great disability rep with the use of ASL and the mmc, Chan, being hard of hearing. Plus, Chan is Asian, which adds to diverse rep in a romance novel!

Need suspense and action in your romance? This one is for you!

Thank you to Berkley for the eARC and PRH Audio for the free audiobook.

3.5 stars.

Mr. Nice Spy starts with a bang—literally, Andee works as a pyrotechnic expert. Andee has just done a DNA test to find and confirm her biological father and unfortunately she discovers he is an international criminal, when the CIA shows up at her doorstep.

She’s kidnapped by her father’s men, along with CIA agent Chan, who is believed to be her boyfriend. The rest of the story is basically plotting ways to escape and learn more about her father’s evil doings. The romance was a little lax, it felt more like trauma bonding; where being forced to pretend caused them to get to know each other better.

While the story sucked me in and I was hooked on the audio (I especially loved the narrator’s inflections during Andee’s inner monologue), the romance was not believable for me. I wish there had been an epilogue just to see Andee and Chan together in the future, while not kidnapped.

Overall, Mr. Nice Spy was fun and enjoyable.

Mr. Nice Spy by Tiana Smith is the 2nd book in her My Spy series. The story picks up where it left off, with the CIA still actively on the hunt to find Holt, the dangerous arms dealer. Andee Paxton is very good at her job as a pyrotechnic fireworks engineer and designer; the CIA is aware that Holt is looking for his long-lost biological daughter (Andee). Andee decided to do a DNA test, and learns that Holt, is her real father and a dangerous villain.

CIA Officer Adam Chan meets Andee, who is being set up as bait to catch her father; but to her surprise, she is kidnapped along with Chan (he pretends that he is Andee’s boyfriend). They are both drugged and flown to France, where Holt is hiding. Chan goes out of his way to play pretend boyfriend, as he is sweet and protective; Chan also has a hearing disability. In a short time, they both begin to have feelings for each other.

Andee and Chan must find a way to stop Holt’s evil plans, as well as discover a way to escape, not to mention getting the CIA to help find them. They were trapped in the catacombs by the deranged Holt. Andee and Chan must rely on each other to trust themselves, to secure their freedom; as well as both of them definitely have chemistry. Using the fake relationship, turned out to be fun, and I really liked them together. The scary part is Holt’s villainy that will bring upon global destruction and chaos, bringing the world to its knees. He has created a pill that will kill those who take it, as he is determined to destroy the world.

Mr. Nice Guy was an exciting, action-packed, captivating thriller, with a sweet spy romance story. Mr. Nice Guy was very well written by Tiania Smith, with a wonderful couple and a steamy romance. If you enjoy a spy drama, I suggest you read Mr. Nice Spy.

I struggled to get invested in this story. I'm not sure if it had to do with the whole set up of the plot, which felt rushed and forced, but I didn't find myself caring too much about any of the character. I really enjoyed the first book in this inter-connected series, and I was looking forward to reading this story as well, but I was unfortunately disappointed.

The romance was quick and didn't feel authentic. It seemed to be pushed into the story rather than a naturally occurring result of the plot.

The whole tension of the book, them being kidnapped and a dangerous drug existing, seemed to be low stakes for the entire book. It wasn't until the very end of the story that there seemed to be any sort of real danger or urgency created.

I would have loved to like this book more than I did, but it was still a decent romance if you aren't looking for anything too solid or believable.

In the follow up in Tiana Smith’s “My Spy” series, pyrotechnician Andee Paxton has always wanted to know exactly who her father is. When she takes a DNA test, she soon discovers her father is Holt, a notorious international criminal and arms dealer, when he has his henchman abduct her. The CIA Agent assigned to her case, Adam Chan, happens to be with her at the time, and she says he is her boyfriend to keep him safe. Now they are both trapped in a very dangerous situation with their violent kidnapper and his organization. Sure, it’s nice to have time together to get to know each other, but that time is limited and under threat from Andee’s father, who wants to groom her to be the heir to his criminal enterprise and his world-altering plan. Can Andee and Chan work together to foil Holt’s dangerous plans before it’s too late, and will their romance survive the process?

Mr. Nice Spy has the same fast-paced, enjoyable quality as its predecessor. Both main characters are extremely likeable that readers will root for. Andee is a sympathetic, everywoman character who behaves realistically in the atypical situation she faces. Chan is absolutely dreamy and the type of guy you’d want to be kidnapped with if you were in that situation. He’s sweet, sexy, caring, and an extremely capable operative. Tiana Smith handles his partial deafness very well, depicting how he manages it, and his job as a CIA officer. They have great chemistry together, with nice steamy kisses and interactions that work well with the ongoing storyline. While most of the secondary characters could be more developed, they serve the story well. The action scenes are good, and it’s rewarding to see how Andee and Chan’s strengths and skills are used to help them out in their situation. Readers who love a good spy movie with a nice dose of romance will enjoy Mr. Nice Spy.
