Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for providing this book, with my honest review below.
Mr. Nice Spy was a great book to get into on a grey afternoon, full of adventure and romance but not formulaic. Andee, our heroine, meets Alex, our hero, pretty quickly and the adventure starts shortly after. Andee has spent years thinking her father is a famous actor who is denying his parentage of her but when she does a DNA test she learns that not only has her mother lied about this fact, but her real father is an international crime boss with the CIA on his tail. She and Alex (mistaken as her boyfriend) are quickly captured by her father and have to not only find a way to escape but try to thwart his evil plans.
While the relationships in the book are a bit shallow (and I don’t know if I’d have a deep one with a father like Andee’s) the book had non stop action and some mysteries to keep the reader invested. I also loved the inclusion of a hard of hearing main character and agree with Tiana Smith that this isn’t common in a book. In addition to writing this in with a nod to her husband, the author weaved it into the story in a way that was important to the plot. Recommended if you like action romance!
This book was amazing and I devoured this book in just a few sittings! I loved the character development and how the story progressed.
This is an action/romance book with a high-stakes story, full of spies, fake dating, and lots of nail-biting scenes. In this book, Andee is kidnapped by an international criminal who turns out to be her father. The catch? She is taken along with a hot CIA officer who was assigned to protect her ... and the two must pretend to be dating to ensure both of their safety and get out alive.
I thought the plot was a great idea, but it wasn't executed in the best way. There were a lot of funny scenes, and a lot of scenes that made me gasp, but the majority of the book consisted of Andee and Chan (the CIA officer) sitting in the secret bunker, not doing much other than flirting and dreaming of getting out of the bunker. I thought the fake dating was kind of forced. Andee was also kind of annoying? Like, she just met Chan, and although they were pretending to date, she acted like they were actually together, getting angry any time he simply LOOKED at another woman. It was a little weird. I loved Chan's character, though! And I appreciated the representation for ASL!
Thanks, NetGalley and Berkley, for this digital ARC!
Loved this book. It was cute and funny. Loved Andre and Chan. Their relationship was so cute great. Very good book from this author
I loved it. It’s got everything that I love about a good romance book. Plus, they have so much tension between the two of them that I was waiting for the pin to drop. I loved that the reader could see the connection from the start and it just slowly builds up. Seriously, I couldn’t put this down.
