It was sweet and short - loved how the book illustrates the boy's determination and dedication to continue attempting to verbally express himself.
This was a lovely audio book, perfect for a younger audience. It has some powerful thoughts in it, what a great mother and teacher that Tyler must have had. Some one taught Tyler to keep going and find your voice, and that is exactly what Tyler did!!! The narration was nicely done by the author. I normally strongly dislike music in my audio books, but this music was well thought out and executed perfectly. Thanks to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the opportunity to listen.
This is a reassuring story about a boy with a stutter. It's a good lesson for kids who struggle to speak up or have a speech impediment. It may also be helpful for parents, as the parent in the story provides a good example of how to be there for your child without criticizing them or making their anxiety about the issue worse.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I purchased a copy for my library.
I received a copy of this audiobook from netGalley for a honest review.
I loved this story about a boy with a studder who finds a way to share himself with the world through his art with the help of his Mom. Wonderfully written and very colorful.
I want to give this book a 5+ stars. Tyler Gordon is a teenager that has found strength in his disabilities to become the prodigy he is today. I looked up his bio and this kid is nothing short of amazing. He is a famous painter, but he is also a wonderful writer and has written a book based on his own difficulties with stuttering. It’s a wonderful book that addresses the difficulties that people who stutter have. The narration was perfect by the author and he wrote and narrated a powerful book that can be used on any speech language pathologists caseload. Parents will love how the books is presented and actually uses a technique we all use. Breath, light contacts and practice words. I love this and I am excited to have my students listen to it. All students to bring awareness to stuttering. I also loved the teachers response about some words are just so powerful. Good for her for being an active advocate.
Tyler Gordon you have a winner here. You should be proud !
Many of us have trouble voicing our words; they get stuck and will not come out at the right time. That happens to poor Tyler. Luckily, his mother shares a mantra with him that gets him in the zone, and they accompany these words with the creation of artwork. Through positive affirmations, and the beauty of art, Tyler's words enter the world to be shared with others.
This book was so cute! I love how the little boy tried and tried again to overcome his stutter! Also the line his teacher tells the class after: “Some peoples words are so powerful they take a little more work to come out.” 🥹 This book would be great for anyone with a speech impediment or so little ones can learn about them too.
The narrator was top notch too.
This audiobook, narrated by the author, is a delightful and engaging experience. The story may resonate deeply with children, particularly those with diverse speech abilities, offering them a relatable and inclusive narrative. The background music and sound effects are thoughtfully integrated, enhancing the storytelling without overshadowing the narrative. This audiobook is an excellent resource for fostering discussions among students about their preferred modes of self-expression, making it a valuable addition to any educational setting.
Yesterday, our meeting discussed fit vs. belonging. Within the first minute, I could tell that Tyler did not feel belonging. The emotions of this shine through.
Adults should listen to this better to understand some kids in our lives.
The sound effects made this a perfect audio selection.
The narration was EXCELLENT!
Thank you to Net Galley and MacMillian Audio for the advanced copy.
What an wonderful little picture book about a young boy who has trouble getting the words out and how he overcame it.
This review is for the audiobook which was very well read but I look forward to buying this book to see the illustrations!
4 Stars
I received this audiobook from the publisher Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for a fair and honest review.
I enjoyed listening to the main character overcome his struggles. I don't often encounter books with a person of color lead who has difficulty with speech, this is what helps the book stand out to me. This book is relateable to anyone who tends to hold back their thoughts out of fear. The narration fits the book appropriately. The background music and effects were helpful, yet occassionally distracting. Particularly when I heard doors opening, yet was uncertain why or how the unique sounds contributed to the overall story. The story itself is about overcoming challenges. I definitely recommend it.
I loved having a opportunity to listen to the audio ARV provided by NetGalley and MacMillian Audio in exchange for my honest review.
I am always looking for looks about differences to share at school. Some times picture books don’t translate well to audiobooks when the pictures aren’t being described but this one was delightful. . I actually don’t even know if there is a physical book to be honest but I expect it would come with beautiful artwork if it exists.
The author narrated his own book which gave it a more emotional tie due to the subject matter. It also had sound effects throughout which added to the auditory experience.
This book is a great tool for students to learn about others with learning or speech differences as well as for those working on those same differences.
It showed how much a parent positive outlook affected their child’s progress and that there isn’t always one way to meet a goal.
I highly recommend this book for all children.
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special

The Boy Who Found His Voice is about a young boy who struggles with a stutter, who finds his voice with a paintbrush. I loved how happy this book was & the positivity when the main character was able to express himself.
I listened to an advance copy of the audiobook & the addition of background sound effects were super cute and amplified the story.
Thanks to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Tyler Gordon for the chance to read & review!
An uplifting story about a boy trying to find his voice, when words don't come easy to him. This mom of a child with Apraxia appreciated this book so much. Beautiful, uplifting, and validating!
This is a wonderful audiobook, heartwarming and reassuring. Many kids (and older) will be able to relate in one way or another at not being able to find their words even when it’s important. Thank you for this ARC listen!
I love this book and the audio was so well done. I found this to be such a heartwarming book. It focused on a boy who struggles to speak. How even when things are important, he still could not speak. I would absolutely love to use this during story time. I recommend this to those who have children, or teachers, that want to add a new perspective or see their own self in the character.
This is a very sweet book that I think a lot of children would love and relate to. This is an inspiring tale about a kid who struggles to speak and learns to accept and love himself and his voice.
The audiobook added a nice charm to it by adding background music and sound effects that I think all children would love.
