From page 1, you just know that this book is going to be good time. Though it is clear that tension exists between them from the off, Percy and Johnny have such great chemistry that their long history together can be felt immediately. It is also very clear what section of society these two gentleman occupy and they manage to be extremely relatable and endearing despite their 'elite' status. Things only get more interesting and delightful as more character enter the picture and the mystery starts to unfold. If "Knives Out" were a gothic tale that invited its cousin Indiana Jones for dinner in 1977, this is probably what you would get. I would definitely recommend this read!
The opening of the book is just perfect, it is setting the scene for the two main characters - Percy and Johnny - both from upper class New York in the seventies. Then they arrive at Rhinebeck, their childhood home and unfortunately that is where the story becomes very slow. At first I was also apprehensive that it would become a boys will be boys story, but luckily it then takes a rather unexpected turn when the gothic influence kicks in.
Despite this improvement, I felt that the book dragged a bit too much emphasizing the family relationships, the dinners and drinks, creating a lack of focus on the murder mystery itself. It would have benefited from some good editing and reducing the number of pages from a 500+ to a mere 300+
So all in all, an enjoyable story but too long to my liking.
A sincere thank you to NetGalley, Smith-Obolensky Media and the author for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was immersed in a gripping narrative that masterfully blends historical intrigue with elements of fantasy. Obolensky’s writing is rich and evocative, bringing to life a vivid world that captures both the grandeur and the grit of the setting. The characters are well-developed, particularly the protagonist, whose journey of self-discovery is both compelling and relatable.
However, the pacing does stumble at times, with certain sections feeling overly detailed, which can disrupt the overall flow. While the world-building is impressive, I found some aspects of the plot a bit convoluted, leading to moments of confusion.
Despite these minor issues, the captivating storyline and intricate character dynamics kept me engaged, making it a fulfilling and thought-provoking read.
Honestly at first I wasn’t sure I would finish this book. It’s starts off real slow. But once it picked up man did it have some surprises that made you keep reading. All in all I am glad I had the chance to read this book. Although the ending had me heated until I realized it was the first of a series! Then it made more sense. Will definitely be looking into the other books following this one!
Thank you Ivan Obolensky and NetGalley for the read!!
Started off a little slow but the the pace picks up. I wasn’t expecting the story to center around the occult but it drew me into the story. An interesting read. I would recommend this book.
A mystery, gothic atmosphere, secrets, Egyptian folklore, loads to unfold.
Percy and Johnny are old friends but they have not been close for some time.

Eye of the Moon has a slow start but after the reader gets used to the author's writing style it feels like a family elder is telling a story with all the ingredients that make the hair at the back of your neck rise and grips the attention. The story has a little bit of everything - mystery, family drama, the occult, spooky mansions, strong characters, crime, intriguing children and adults. This is not a quick read, it has to be savored and thought upon each step. Really entertaining!
I thank the author, his publisher, and NetGalley for the copy of this book.

This book is quite unlike anything I’ve read before, in a good way. It’s a well written mystery/thriller with lots of suspense. At first I felt like the book started a bit slow, however, the mystery and the suspense builds throughout the book.
This book features:
* paranormal mystery
* occult/magic
* secrets
* LOTS of suspense!
* historical aspects
I look forward to reading the next instalment!
