A delightful debut from singer/songwriter Marina Diamandis. "Eat the World" is a simple little collection but it has some punch! Marina's a lyricist at the end of the day and that comes through abundantly in her poetry. It's inviting, a bit cheeky, and holds a sense of longing and romanticism in it. She writes about her eating disorder, her love life, her life in L.A., and the human connection we all share.

The poetry is confessional and some are on the more generic and juvenile side than the rest, but overall the collection is solid. The design and illustrations/photos are very well placed and on theme. Definitely a debut poetry collection but I have a good feeling that she will continue to write and grow.

My favorite poems are: "Proof of Time", "Night Surfing", "Denominator," and "Eat the World."

I went into this poetry collection believing this could turn out one of two ways: be inspiring and interesting like her music or be unbearable. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the latter.

I wanted to pick this up because I have been listening to MARINA for years, and I have always found value in the things she has had to say. But this was a deep miss for me. In her introduction she says that these poems started out as things she needed to say that couldn’t work themselves into a song structure, and I will say the poetry really does reflect that. I fear they could have used a bit more hammering out.

The end of the collection really started to present ideas I was interested in: her perceptions of fame in retrospect being a big one. There are also a few enjoyable poems about L.A. that I found to be decent enough. But unfortunately, this work felt extremely unpolished and incoherent for the most part.

Thank you to the publisher for sending me an E-Arc.

I loved this! I am excited to see the finished copies and hope that it has even more graphics and art than the ARC. I'm not a big poetry person so I can't speak to it as a poetry book, but as a Marina fan, this was delightful and it reminded me of how and why I fell in love with Marina as an artist during the Electra Heart phase.

I became a fan of Marina when one of my best friends in high school introduced me to Marina and the Diamonds a little over a decade ago. Her music was such a fun escape, so I knew I had to get my hands on her poetry book.

This collection showed a new side to Marina, at times very dark but still with her signature bubblegum-LA style throughout. The rhymes flowed beautifully- I read some of them aloud to my infant son and loved how lyrical they were. I think he liked them too.

While I don’t read a ton of poetry, this collection was a nice treat and a break from what I usually gravitate towards. Reading her words made me very nostalgic for my younger days, and was a joy to read.

This was exactly what I expected it to be, and that is not a good thing. I've really loved Marina's music since her first album, but it has been getting more and more millennial white woman-y in a cringe-y way over the past 5 years or so. This collection follows that trend, and comes off as very elder millennial in a not complimentary way.
