A.K Mulford is back with the 2nd book in the golden court trilogy.. this one continues from book 1
Calla is queen now and it’s time to take on the asshat king!
But secrets come out on the way to find allies

I had to read A River of Golden Bones after I received A Sky of Emerald Stars as an ARC (thank you NetGalley!) It was already on my tbr. I gave it a 2.75.
I am not exactly the target audience for this book, but I'm into fairytale retelling and this one has a few.
I enjoyed the writing much more in this book. I felt like it flowed better and Sadie's pov chapters I favored. I understood both character's struggles and know this will resonate with a lot of people who read it. The twists were interesting and I'll continue with the series ( I enjoyed The Five Criwn of Okrith Series so I do like the authors work.)
I rate A Sky of Emerald Stars a 3.25.

A sky of emerald stars picks up from the first book a river of golden bones and calla is now queen!
This story is awesome I loved every second of it .. to see the characters grow so much and getting ready for the war that is coming against the evil king! I can’t wait for book 3!
It’s full of magic battles monsters let’s go!

I was given an advanced copy in exchange for my review. This is my honest opinion I am giving voluntarily. I have been following this author for awhile now and I know their writing style pretty well. I am biased in saying I love anything they come out with but this book unfortunately does suffer from second book syndrome. I love the representation of this series I loved the first one a lot but this feels like a filler movie from Star Wars. This book is really good in a standalone sense but it doesn’t feel like part of the series. Go into it knowing Sadie is on her own journey and I think you will like it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!
Another good read from Mulford, I’m enjoying this series. Interesting world.
I do wish the main character had a bit more pluck, it’s a little too damsel in distress all the time for my liking which makes it harder to root for her. Take a page from SJM and give your heroines some spunk!

I received this book as an ARC. As I had not yet read the first book in this series, I made sure to go read that one first. Both books have an interesting premise that fell flat in execution. I found the character development lacking and wished there was more self-reflection so that I could greater understand their thoughts.
My biggest issue with the story, and I have found this to be a glaring issue in other books I.e. Cresent City, is the fact that authors have a bizarre notion that characters need to have sex in the middle of dangerous or serious situations. Having this occur completely negates the severity of the situation and, frankly, question the legitimacy of everything because I cannot fathom that anyone in their right mind would place having sex as their first most priority.
I also feel like Briar has been diminished to being simply a beautiful, placid female who is constantly in need of rescuing. I wish that there was more of a variety to the confrontations so that it wasn’t the same issue occurring over and over.

This book was an amazing read, that took you places you didn't know you were going to go. I was fully absorbed in this book right off the bat and flew through it in one day. The author did an amazing job with the plot and making the characters unique but relatable. I will be recommending this book to all of my patrons, family, and friends. Great read!
