Thank you for the ARC!
Wow, this was heavy and it took me a few sittings to read through, to process. I recently reviewed Judi Dench's memoir and I feel similarly about this: another memoir presented in a stunningly beautiful way, completely unconventional. Very different from other poetry books I have read.
A really thoughtful and compelling book of poems grappling with incomprehensible grief and our relationship to the fragile body.
Jagadakeer: Apology to the Body is a heartfelt and deeply reflective collection of poetry. It dives into the complicated relationship we all have with our bodies, exploring themes of pain, healing, and self-forgiveness. The poems are raw and honest, striking a chord with anyone who's ever struggled with accepting themselves. The language is simple yet powerful, making each piece feel like a personal conversation. This collection is a moving tribute to the resilience of the human body and the journey towards self-acceptance.
I was interested in this collection because I could relate to the poet as a daughter of immigrant parents. I enjoyed the memoir aspect of this collection along with the prose poetry. With touching memories as well as tragedies, this was a beautiful tribute to her parents. This was a lovely collection, and I hope to read more work by Lory soon.
Powerful poems on grief, loss, embodiment, and the indelible ties to one’s home. The language is exquisite and precise, a lifeline when the subject matter gets heavy. I'm glad I picked this ARC.
This poetry collection was hauntingly beautiful and I 100% plan on buying a copy for my personal collection.
It deals with loss, chronic illness, diagnosis, grief, immigration. The words flow and are gorgeous and I'm very happy to have found and read this collection.
I wasn't able to finish. Although I wanted to keep reading, it was too heavy and confusing for me. I feel the idea was good, but the execution wasn't what I expected ot to be.
