This book is getting three stars for a neutral rating, since I did not finish the book. I will also only be leaving a review here at NetGalley. My problem was it was too graphic in sexual topics and I feared it would only get worse, since the book's description stated Mr. Luckinbill had been sexually abused. What stopped me reading was his detailed description of a Popeye porno magazine. It was a short description, but something one really did not want to visualize or remember.
I so tried to get into his memoir but it just didn't hold my attention. I'm sure it's a delightful book but just not for me. I'm sure others will enjoy it.
Laurence Luckinbill offers a superb memoir in Affective Memories. He is unsparingly honest, walking the reader through a difficult childhood in poverty, his own failures and missteps as an adult, along with his triumphs and accomplishments on stage. This reflective memoir invites the reader into Luckinbill's process of growth as an actor and human being.
I have seen Laurence Luckinbill in various shows and movies over the years and always enjoyed his performances so I was interested in reading his memoir. It's a great read and I enjoyed learning more about the man behind the roles.
