I’m a big Godzilla fan so I’ll read anything with him in it and I thought this was pretty adorable. Minilla was precious, like a tiny Godzilla. I personally would have been bummed thinking I signed up for art camp and got sports camp, but meeting Godzilla, Mothra and all the other monsters would be absolutely worth it. I thought the one character was a little too extreme in her environmental zeal, but it is a good message to send to kids about the importance of protecting natural resources. I would definitely read more books if this became a series. The artwork was GORGEOUS.
I thought this was super cute. I can't wait to have my son read it when he gets home. It's the perfect introduction of Godzilla to a younger demographic and the artwork was fantastic.

Sign me up for Monster Island Summer Camp! I want to play with Minilla, Mothra and the rest. This graphic is a wonderful introduction to Kaiju and a commentary on the importance of respecting our planet.
I’ve always been a fan of Godzilla (mostly because my husband loves him) but now I love these monsters even more.
This was just a cute little story about a group of kids teaming up with Minila and the rest of the Kaiju crew, Godzilla himself of course, to take on an evil corporation. Genuinely adorable and while this is aimed towards kids I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Overall, definitely would recommend to fans of Godzilla of all ages!
Such a fun title with adorable artwork. Perfect for YA/Middle Grade readers! Definitely a must add for any school libraries.
Beautifully illustrated, funny, and so so cute! I found this book to be adorable and I loved the little monster character and his friendship with the humans. I also liked that one of the characters was disabled, but that it wasn't "fixed" in a magical way. 4.5/5
Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp was such a fun read. I loved Minilla, especially when they had their disguise on.
I did find the dialogue quite wordy, but still enjoyed it. It was just a fun, cute Godzilla story.
I found some of the font a bit difficult to read. I have bad eyes and it took me a bit longer to read those parts.
Besides that, this was a nice graphic novel. It was adorable and I know a younger me would’ve LOVED this.
This graphic novel is just on point for anyone who want to get away from reality (me).
I loved the art style 10/10 even though I'm not a fan of typical USA comics font.
The not so original plot gives a sense of comfort to reader who will feels at home.
I will definitely reread it when I crave hope for the future.

A group of kids thinking they're going to art camp, arrive to find the came has been bought out by a shady corp and turned into an ultra strict sports only camp. Somehow there's a cave with a portal to monster island where one of the leads finds a magic cane that allows here to read the thoughts of Minilla...they team up to stop the shady corp behind the take over of the camp, and who is all, coincidentally, endangering Monster Island.
It's not NOT the most out there plot I've seen come out of the kaiju genre, and Minilla centric films DID tend to lean on the cheese, so it's fitting I suppose. Quality writing isn't so much the point as is the silliness. Best left to the youngest Godzilla readers.

This was a very cool graphic novel about Zelda who thinks she’s going to an art summer camp but quickly discovers that things at her chosen camp have changed. The illustration style was very cool and I loved the soft pastel colours throughout. Oh, and I really loved all the monster designs!
This story had a diverse cast of characters and two prominent main characters had disabilities. Zelda used a cane and another prominent character had a prosthetic arm. The challenges Zelda faced at her summer camp (with now being a sports camp which included lots of running which was out of the question for her) were also mentioned. I think the fact that her cane later became such an important part of the story was really cool.
I liked how this graphic novel tackled the issue of environmental conservation. I felt like that topic was introduced in such a natural way and it made complete sense for it to be such a prominent theme in the plot.
My biggest critique is that I found some of the scene changes were a bit abrupt, thus I sometimes had to jump back to make sure I hadn’t skipped a page.
Overall though, this was a really lovely graphic novel which I think lots of children would enjoy.
Thanks Netgalley and IDW Publishing for letting me read an early eARC. Godzilla: Monster Island Summer Camp is out August 20th.
I really love the concept and the energy of this comic! It gives me major studio ghibli vibes. It would have been a 5 if the font wasn't so difficult to read!
I read this with my Godzilla loving son and we rather enjoyed it.
Our main character shows up to what she expects to be an art camp, only for it to be an extreme sports camp and she’s not down for it. While avoiding all the awful activities, she stumbles upon a cave where we meet Minzilla and together they have to figure out what’s bothering all the monsters on the island.
Cute, fun, fast. We enjoyed the romp with mini-Godzilla and the other Kaiju.
Highly recommend.
Thanks so much to the publisher and netgalley for the advanced e-copy!
Such a fun and cute book!
The story is fine. There are a couple of sections that I was like, "Is this necessary or are we just filling out pages..." but overall it was good. Great themes of friendship and environmentalism.
The illustrations are nice but the color palette is really what sets them apart. Its quite a unique palette.
I love all the other Godzilla monsters making appearances. Such a fun treat!
Started off well
Lost the plot a bit
Pacing was way too fast and there was way too much not explained
Loved the diversity and illustrations
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC copy!
Even though I'm not too familiar with Godzilla as a whole, I really enjoyed this one. I loved the adorable approach to Godzilla and the art. Heartfelt story with a dose of cuteness is at the heart of this story. Would absolutely recommend.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!
Okay so first, I love Godzilla. No, let me emphasize that I LOVE Godzilla. Everything Godzilla. Movies. Comics. Books. Manga. Games. Video essays by randos on the internet. I can't get enough. I knew that, no matter what, I would go into this 100% biased and unable to put it down. That said, this exceeded my expectations! The story was great. The art was great. My precious innocent baby girl is in it. It's perfect :)

What a cute graphic novel with a great message of friendship and protecting the environment! I loved seeing all the girls grow as friends! The art style was amazing, and I loved the full page spreads. The character designs are so different, while also working great together. One issue I had is everyone seemed really chill with Minizilla and all the monsters right away. I've never been in a situation where I've encountered a baby Godzilla, but I feel like I'd be a little bit concerned. Overall, it was a super fun read and people should totally check it out when it comes out in August!
Thank you Netgalley and IDW Publishing for anARC in exchange for an honest review :)
Zelda thinks she is going to art camp, and surprised to find herself at a more athletic camp, with weird counselors. Soon, she stumbles upon a cave to an alternate world where she befriends Minilla. Together, they realize that the new owners of the camp are fracking, which is causing earthquakes that are dispiriting kaiju. They work together (and with Zelda’s new friends) to stop the camp for good.
I enjoyed this one! The illustration is very manga like and the story was good. I’m glad we got a little Godzilla in there too even if he wasn’t the main character! This could be a good introduction to Godzilla for younger teens too. . I do think it took a little while to get to the true plot. Still fun though!
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
